    Good tips. Mine’s a 2010 (2008 chassis) so no def I have had the chassis battery issue but after running the generator it would start. Thanks for the tip on the slide out. Haven’t had a problem yet but I always say a little prayer whenever I hit the button. Cheers

    Great video. DEF stands for "Diesel Exhaust Fluid" Truck stops and some gas stations with specific pumps for trucks will have a DEF pump. It's typically a blue pump handle. It's usually much cheaper than the box DEF.

  • @bobbycandtherv

    @bobbycandtherv

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thank you! I generally have bought the box before, because it lasts so long and I usually wait to fill it when it gets pretty low. Also, I don’t like to overfill because DEF is corrosive.

    Very good and simple to understand video for the basics. I didn’t know about the DEF level check on dash, will check that in a bit. Any issue with the solar cig lighter charger? I’d only get sun half the day. Does it put a minor drain when it’s not charging?

    DEF has nothing to do with particulates...it’s added into the exhaust to reduce NOx emission in the SCR converter

    When routinely running the generator under load, you advise cycling the slide. Isn't the slide typically DC? Would this put any kind of a load on the generator?

  • @bobbycandtherv

    @bobbycandtherv

    2 жыл бұрын

    No, it also operates off 110 when plugged in or with the generator. It will operate off DC, but if you run it in and out on battery alone several times it will kill your battery pretty quickly!

    What were the reasons you guys decided to go to a bigger Class C from the Sprinter and go with a gas engine vs the diesel that was in the Mercedes?

  • @bobbycandtherv

    @bobbycandtherv

    11 ай бұрын

    Most of that was explained in this earlier video, Should I Trade the Sprinter kzread.info/dash/bejne/aHWZytqJp67Ue7g.html, and the follow-up We Traded the Sprinter! kzread.info/dash/bejne/iYSW2619hZSqZs4.html. As far as the engines, the Godzilla gas engine has plenty of torque, and gas is much cheaper than diesel now. I average @ 9 mpg now, vs. 11-13 mpg for the diesel, so it’s about a wash. Like the extra room and the Murphy bed floor plan much better. Repairs & maintenance a LOT less expensive now, and more availability for service.

    Bobby C., We have the exact same motorhome. You said the slide controller is under the bed. How exactly do you access it? No problems yet but thinking ahead.

  • @bobbycandtherv

    @bobbycandtherv

    Sorry, I must have missed your question. In our 24L Jayco Melbourne Sprinter the slide controller was under the bed, which had a folding mattress.

  • @bobbycandtherv

    @bobbycandtherv

    Жыл бұрын

    Once you folded the mattress up, there was plywood underneath and it was cut so you could remove the panel to access the controller. No problem if the slide is out, pretty difficult if the slide is in.

  • @bobbycandtherv

  • @georgek719

    To prevent chassie battery drainage, why wouldn't an option be to go with a110 V trickle charger attached to the terminals that you pointed out under the hood?

  • @bobbycandtherv

    @bobbycandtherv

    2 жыл бұрын

    George, I never tried that, not sure how that would work. The small solar panel on my dash did the trick for me and it was very convenient.

  • @jdderstine
    @jdderstine2 жыл бұрын

    If you have solar it should also keep your chassis batteries charged. Or just keep your rv plugged into shore power

  • @eaglesview1946

    Wrong. DEF controls NOx emissions. The DPF removes the particulates and is regenerated by the introduction of fuel to the exhaust flow. High temperature cleans the DPF.

    @@nancyaustin9953 wish I could help you. I bought mine at a specific battery shop near me. They had one that was a proper replacement and I had no issue. I would callMercedes and see if they can give you an exact battery # for a replacement. I do know that some car makers, such as BMW require you to reprogram your computer to the new battery after replacement ( at the dealer, or another shop with a scanner) This wasn’t the case with my 2017, but it could be with yours.
