Yes, Joshua Tree in one day! That was a cool campground with the sparse trees...and those rocks that pop out..SWEET! Great work on the overlay fades! Man I could spend the day with my kids in that maze of rocks...looked like a ton of fun! Ha sweet, way to keep in that wipe out...Keepin it real!

I lived in JT back in the 70's. The park was literally my back yard. Spent many days and nights exploring. It was fairly wild n open back then. Saw alot of wildlife there. Mountain lion, sheep, snakes, ghila monsters,road runner, vultures, coyotes, quail, scorpion. In the spring, when all is in bloom,is the best time to see it. Thanks for the video,, it took me back to my youth and the fun I had learning how to appreciate the high desert. Be safe in your journeys

June, 2018-I was in Fla, June,2019 I was in S Oregon on the coast trying to stay warm. I am wintering over not too far from the SW corner of the park. I am getting ready after all the lockdown silliness is done to spend some time in Joshua Tree when the challenge is to stay WARM with winter season. Thanks for the quick tour. I drove to the I-10 southern gate a few weeks ago and spent some time in that area of the park.

You sure did a lot in one day! I have walked to skull rock from Jumbo Rocks Campground - loved that trail, driven up to Keys View and visited the Cholla Cactus Garden. Hidden Valley’s trailhead parking lot was overflowing the last time we were here so skipped that. Awesome you had it so quiet! Great video Randy & Kayla!

wow that campground looks nice!! we stay at Jumbo Rocks but now i think we need to try this one... thanks for noting the drone was outside the Park... Cholla Garden and Pinto basin just south of it are probably our favorite parts of Joshua.. Super Video thanks for taking us along

Since we were there in the dead heat of summer, we pretty much had most of the Park to ourselves. We noticed Joshua Tree had your typical develops campgrounds, but then they also had some sweet isolated/private spots scattered around the Park too. It's a shame so many people trash this Park - we had a great time and found the place quite diverse and beautiful. Thanks for watching and sharing the very kind words!

Loved this. If I’ve only got a day, I want to see as much as possible. Hoping to add this park to my October trip. Thanks for giving me some ideas of what to explore.

Geez you guys covered a ton in one day, I would have been exhausted! Also that would have been terrible in 2009, glad it wasn't worse! Joshua Tree really impressed us, didn't know what to expect but the odd trees and awesome rock formations really are fun to explore! Great b roll on the hikes! Yeah, we JT in the peak hot season. Many choose to avoid the park during those times.

I'm planning a two-week trip to Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and Joshua Tree right now and your channel has been a HUGE help! I'm from Louisiana and have never visited a national park (much less West USA) so you've really made planning it all a lot more clear. Thanks for all your help and big love from the South!

Specifically, any thoughts on a great place to eat to experience the native food culture, a jazz restaurant in New Orleans and a paddle-boat ride in the area on the Mississippi?

@@AmericasParks Hey there! The paddle-boat Natchez is a great way to relax! Cafe du Monde is a close walk from where you'd get off the boat. Great place to make a mess of powdered sugar and people watch (I've seen many proposals right on Washington Artillery Park by Cafe du Monde)! Near there is Jackson Square, the Cathedral, and French Market which are worth seeing! Usually Jackson Square and the area around it is filled with street performers and art! Lots of jazz music is on the street/in bars, but there's a small place called Preservation Hall where you can buy tickets and watch jazz musicians in an intimate setting! If you're into history, the World War II Museum is amazing. They have WWII vets there constantly sharing stories, and it really is a beautiful museum. The short movie with Tom Hanks voice-over is amazing and has stuck with me since I first saw it in middle school. There's a few battlefields in nearby towns if you're into that too! Try out a swamp tour or ghost tour if you have time. Audubon zoo is pretty damn good too! For food: One of my favorite things is to get a poboy at Parkway Tavern and eat it in City Park (which is HUGE). Trying out seafood/gumbo anywhere is a MUST. I could write a whole book on food, just need to know what y'all like/price-range and I could tell you where to go! Crawfish is in season, so give it a try! Southern Candymakers is great for pralines. If your daughters stay at the hotel one night: Try out Bacchanal Wine with your wife. I bring my boyfriend their every chance we get, it is by far one of my favorite spots. Always check out what festivals might be going on that weekend, you never know what you might find (French Quarter Fest is soon!) If you need any other tips let me know!

Joshua Tree NP is one of my favorite parks! The trails you did are great. Sometime check out others like the Wall Street Mill Trail, The Barker Dam Trail, the Lost Palms Oasis Trail, the Split Rock Loop Trail with the Face Rock Trail, and the Arch Rock Nature Trail. So many trails with amazing photo ops of weird Joshua Trees and boulders and rock formations!

Hey Randy it's funny that you posted this video cause I was just up at Joshua Tree on Tuesday. I was hiking and sightseeing in the Palm Springs area and my last day I went to Joshua Tree. I ended up doing a 9 mile hike to Mastodon Peak and Lost Plams Oasis. It was nice and chilly that day and I couldn't imagine doing what you guys did in the Summertime. You did get a lot done in a day. I've been to all the places you featured on this video and loved every single one of them. Great video ,great editing and great commentary as always.

Randy, it is so hot in the Mojave in the summer, you and Kayla are amazing. Good you had the water, heat stroke is common there. I visited Joshua National Park right after it was upgraded from National Monument in mid 1990s, and that was in the late fall, much cooler. Your tour of the trails is excellent! Thank you, . . . Yeah, too hot for JT that day, but it was the only time we could make it happen.

Man, that looked hot and hiking in the hottest part of the day owch but what a hike, them views were awesome. Nice bolder climb but like you say, easy to get lost in there. Nearly an accident at 4 Keys Views and so easy to happen, something I am always aware of if I am hiking by myself. Great watching the sun go down in such a beautiful area, cheers Alan

Heading to Joshua Tree today. Ended up being 11 hours to fly into LA from Indiana yesterday due to delay with connection flight. Glad to see how to get some quick highlights. Going the parks in the Sierra Nevadas is cancelled sadly but I will have to come back and fly into San Fran. Thinking I may go to the national monument in San Diego too. I wish I had more in me to drive after all that flight and rental car issues, but I didn’t lol. Free place to stay in Carlsbad, CA starting tonight.

Finally...Finally...Joshua Tree has arrived. At least in the summer you have the whole place to yourselves. The 1st hike you took was also did on our 1st visit( 2014) and were bummed that it was all fenced in. Our over night experience in Yucca Valley was just that..Yucca, Yucca...Yucca.. Glad that my 2nd visit in December 2016 was much better and lots cooler. How did you guys sleep in that heat???!!! Anyways great video as always Randy. The sunset shots were awesome!

Hope the wait was worth it! lol! Joshua Tree does get a lot of bad press, but we really enjoyed the things we did. Thankfully the temps cooled off at night, but man was it hot during the day. Actually, it prepared us for the following day near Slab City where it reached 107. Enjoy your weekend, Robert!

I live near there, my favorite place in the world, 3 and 1/2 million visitors last year gets pretty crowded. you guys lucked out finding camping, I recommend not just showing up and expecting a spot.

How long was the skull rock hike and the cholla cactus garden hike..I’m limited on time

Skull Rock is basically drive up and take a look. We were just fooling around on the rocks behind. As for the Cholla trail, it is (I believe ) as short quarter mile loop.

We spent a few days there. It was real nice. Not sure I will go back

Thanks for the great videos! I had a question, though... Every time I've seen you talk about tightly scheduled days or doing a lot of things on a time budget, I notice that there's always the shots of the car driving by or the two of you walking past the camera, which clearly needs a lot of time walking/driving down the same road, turning around to collect the camera etc.): how does that factor into your considerations and would you still think it's a tight schedule if one were to do the trip as a natural tourist/hiker like you minus the vlogging?

haha! Great observation and question! Yes, those shots do add to the time (and effort), but we pretty much have it down to a science. Someone will stay out for the car shots and I get great cooperation with the "walk-bys." Overall, it might only add 1-2% to my time. Basically it comes down to answering the question since time available is the same - see a lot or really soak-up one place. We chose the former as it also makes fun return visits to see new things. Personal preference. Happy to hear you are enjoying the videos!

June is good to beat the crowds but it’s hotter than hell! PLEASE bring hats and plenty of water on EVERY hike. You can’t plan for the unknown so always always bring water even on short walks from a parking lot! Hats and sunscreen are also a must!

Yeah, we camped there for one night. Plenty of campgrounds (and plenty of room in the warmer months when we were there). We stayed at Black Rock - flush toilets and no showers. This might be helpful: www.nps.gov/jotr/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htm

Ah JTree, NICE, memories. Thing I recall the most about rock climbing there is the sliced up fingers from some of the rock formations.ghhhhhhhhhg (oops, my cat typed that. Hydrate and carry more water and salty snacks. Peace out.

Right on! JT is an under-rated National Park. Yeah, just goofing off near the parking lot and felt the concern regarding inadequate water. Left that in the final edit to warn hikers. This is often not a big issue for us on the east coast. Thanks for the comment!

I don't remember if I learned it from you or some other source, but in just the past few days, I learned that Joshua trees aren't really trees at all, but a species of yucca, i.e., a plant. Who'da thunk it? Who do you hire to run ahead with the camera, and take video as you approach? If the job ever opens up, I'm available. : ))

Hiking in the desert in the summer with no shade hats, not enough backup water, and sleeveless shirts is a VERY bad idea. I'm guessing you're not from here. Here in Phoenix, we have tons of tourists being rescued from hiking trails every summer. Some of them die. Very dangerous.

Yeah, leaving the water in the car, even for that short stop was foolish. Normally I don't make that mistake. Lifeguarded all my life with no problems in the sun, but need to start taking more precautions. Appreciate the concern.

@@AmericasParks When I was younger, I did the same thing at Joshua Tree and ran out of water. Almost passed out on the trail. Learned my lesson.
