    On a scout trip to a national park and during a hike my 15 year old brother didn't feel so good so the group went ahead and said they'd pick him up on the way back. Two hours later they returned to find my brother in the place where they had left him and all returned safely. My parents found out about it a few weeks later by accident and they hit the roof and put in a formal complaint about the two scout leaders. My brother was lucky that no harm came to him but my parents were horrified that not only was a child left alone but an unwell child too. My own personal view is that never hike alone and in a group hike agree that everyone hikes at a set pace, no one going ahead on their own or lagging behind. If someone doesn't feel well don't leave them alone whether they are adult or child. Leave someone with them. You can study a lot of subjects at college but you can't study common sense. Lack of common sense seems a theme in a lot of these cases.

    @Alex Wilde you can say the same for consideration. Maybe your parents should have researched the background of the people they let their teenage son travel into the forest with. Maybe they should have went over the way the Scouts handle situations, such as splitting up, if there is an emergency, or if hikes would continue if one of the group wanted to stay back at camp,. Maybe your parents should discuss why it took so long to accidentally find out about your brother. Apparently, he didn't find it important enough to tell them, and at his age, he should know what is concerning behavior to them. Theres no point laying blame in a situation unless you learn where to begin and hold all accountable, but even then, Maybe you should consider, that you and I and your parents and all people make mistakes, and last time I checked, young adventurous people who get into medical school, didn't get there, unless their common sense was well intact. Your comment was cruel. But you can't teach people to be kind and considerate to others even though it could help heal some of the world.

  • @MisplacedTexan

    @MisplacedTexan

    Anita Mah - The comment is cruel? Hardly. People who take the responsibility for children should be smart enough to know that you NEVER leave one behind. This should be common sense.

    The worst is the kids. The children man like all you can think about is how scared they must be. I can remember being a kid and being scared of my own downstairs at night. I mean the lights were out people were asleep I’m here terrified to even pass the stairs and there are these children out there in the woods in pitch blackness. I can hardly think about it.

Or maybe he wasn’t even on the hike maybe he disappeared the night before. Or the person who said they saw a man struggling new more. I just don’t understand why people and parents let there kids go hiking with someone in such a dangerous place. And I really dont understand why people take their family on vacation in such dangerous countries knowing how many people have gone missing or killed. Hopefully one day they will find there loved ones 😢

    I used to work with someone who completely vanished after saying she was going to a party in the forest. There were missing person reports, articles on news websites, even TV footage. People were thinking the worst. Apparently 4 years later she was found safe and sound in a city on the other side of the country wanting to start a new life. So not all missing person reports are due to foul play

    I'd say it's extremely dangerous to hike in the mountains of Colombia/Peru/Ecuador without a guide since there's heavy cocaine manufacturing in those areas. Not sure what would happen if you unwittingly stumbled upon one of their operations. Kidnappings of Americans for ransom money-- even spanning over several years, are known to have occurred.

    I don't think anywhere in the world is safe especially alone in the wilderness. Most of these people have probably been killed by an animal, died from a fall OR got lost and died from exposure. Some of these people are carless and unequipped when out in the wilderness. It seems certain ones have a death wish. However, South America is very dangerous for other reasons like what +Johnny stated above. Can't believe that guy went alone especially in Peru.

    Sad fact for folks who don't know - I worked for AT&T as a phone rep. If someone passes away, even someone's husband, if their phone is locked, they can't unlock it or give you the data. It's a legal issue, a protection of privacy (even tho they're gone.) It's.... sad. I hope she can manage to overcome that. I don't think it's exactly Apple that's the culprit, I mean it might be I'm not sure, but.... it might also be the phone company itself, like AT&T does. :c

  • @karame463

    @karame463

    There need to be changes in the laws. If someone has gone missing or is presumed dead for some reason, all possible data from their phone should be released to at least the police. In a time with so much crucial information available, it is just plan wrong to withhold it. We need to stop with the “they have a right to disappear on their own” and help these families. If they are found and confirm to authorities that they did not want to be found, then let them be. At least the family would know that they are alive and well.

    I know what it is they fell of a Cliff in the bushes. because I had it too.alitude sickness the cold bring it in sometime. We drove up a mountain and for the first time I felt super cold, freezing it was about 40s and then I got the worst pulsing head ache like the day after a hangover. And I felt like I was high and didn’t not remember what we did up there, just pieces. They told me I had alitude sickness. Another thing if you hike, in cold place. Never wear cotton. It call dead man clothes. Because they are found frozen. Because cotton has 100% warm. But get it wet you can wear it you will freeze to death because it below body temperature even worst if the wind blow. It’s air con cold. So the choose is to take it off and build a fire. That if you can. You can fall into the water or rain. The choice is to use sytatic fiber cloth they will still keep you warm when wet. And dry faster. You see them in camping stores .

    I've been a "woods loafer" since the 60s. Did some time in the Pacific/ SE Asia jungles in the early 70s. Still an active hunter, bushcrafter, camper, hiker. In my opinion, people don't just vanish. More often than not, they get hurt and perish, animals scavenge the body. Other times they do something really stupid, get trapped/hurt, the body is never recovered. I did that on several occasions when young. One time while snorkeling on a Pacific island I found a small cave in the reef about 25 feet under water. Naturally, I went in and almost drowned. Had I died, no one would have found me, no one knew where I was. Then there is the possibility of an encounter with evil people.

I traveled to visit Huaraz exactly a month before he disappeared I remember seeing Tons of tourists. After his disappearance everyone I know in my city shared his picture on Facebook trying to locate him but to the day no one heard from him. However.... a watched a video on KZread that a medium posted, she even said she tried to contact the guy’s mother but she didn’t respond to her, the medium said that the missing man was no alive anymore 😰 and that his body was in a cave close to where the police did the search ( in the mountains near a famous lake ) but they toke the wrong path, he was killed by two men and a woman.... again is just what a medium said but she said that she can even help them to locate the guy and provide a description of the murders even tho she lives in the USA , but she was not being taking serious 😐... very bad news for his family but maybe this medium can help a bit to find this young tourist 😪

    Just to follow up on this: I still think it'd be a great idea. (no offense intended) but Ty.. some of your videos on Top 5's seem.. predictable. Others seem like a cash grab with the amount of ads played (now I'm pay for Red indirectly because of your videos) it seems.. as though you're running out of ideas. Maybe you've realized it too, hence the second KZread channel you've made (videos of which, are A+ quality). Last note... Nobody really seems to be reporting on National Park Anomalies, either; despite the amount of information available. Not to mention the... Weird circumstances and evidence showing park rangers are being paid to keep their mouths shut. Just think about it, alright?

    Rockslides were everywhere when I was hiking in Peru. Granted, this was the 90's when terrorists were wiping out roadways. But I imagine it's still very dangerous to walk some of the roads on the mountains. You start sliding and there's no bottom; and a lot of thigh high grass that would make it hard to find someone.

    "Dont be alarmed if you don't hear from me for awhile" That's something you *_NEVER_* say to _anyone_ when you go on a hike. You will regret it if you're lost miles away from civilization- starving, exhausted, dehydrated- and no one's looking for you because you told them not to worry. Be smart. Always bring extra water, no matter what. And bring extra food if possible. Just be smart and be safe.

    It's weird how none of the information was ever released about the man with the struggling boy in #3 here in Oregon when this was going on. I was wanting to go on the search for this boy but didn't get the opportunity. The "terrible snow storm" is not quite true. A snow fall did happen but not as extreme as they are trying to make it sound. If that were the case how could they have seen footprints of him and someone else? I often wondered about this case and if they ever found him. They even had a physic come out and she said he would be found in a covert on a graveled landing...or something similar to that. But they searched those kind of things nearby and didn't find anything. But in a town there was a note on the bathroom wall of a gas station that said he had the boy. Sad that he was never found and probably never will be, especially if there was someone else involved and they were traveling.

    It isn't unusual for some mentally disturbed individuals to head off like that and there are a LOT of places in remote areas where you can go and never be seen again. Most people who are serious about hiking, will leave their plans, maps, when they will return, whatever it takes, with someone responsible, which makes them so much more likely to be found if something goes wrong. There are many things that can happen in the wilds, a snake bite, an injury, animal attack, a miscalculation, an unexpected illness, a lot can happen but if you let people know where you are going to be and your time frame, rescue is far more likely, and NEVER hike alone! The buddy system is so important in many sports like climbing, diving, skiing, etc. but most important, is letting people know where you are going and when you'll be back. Then, stick to your plan! (On another note, search and rescue as well as recovery, can be very costly! Don't make that necessary!)
