I have the Black Beauty 14x8. Seems everyone in metal production goes with the 6.5, wondering if you have used the 8”? So far TBH I like the Aluminum Supraphonic 14x6.5 more. It has a lot more crack and sounds woodier if that makes sense.

Best snare ever recorded for ``metal`` ; Tama Bell Brass... ( vintage one...) AMAZING ! But today we can found so many good snare for not very that expensive ... One guy not very ``famous``... in drummer world : Neil Peart... Having one of the coolest Snare Drum Collection on Earth and he already says : his favorite Snare Drum was one he have buy in a Pawn shop ... at 70$ ... Yeah quality is not always just about price and brand...

I have the BB in 5,5 and 6,5 that I recorded with Jens. I also recorded with the famous snare 2 in Krimh drums. That sounded fantastic but was a little fragile for my hitting but could be perfect for a drummer with lighter sticks. I recorded a couple of album with Uli Kusch from Helloween in my studio where he used my snare but it sounded as another snare compared to when I played it. On one album he wanted a classic 80 clear pinstripe and again, totally new snare! :) My point is (if I even have one) is i think its at least as much to the sound who and how he hits and what sticks he use. But still with all these parameters I LOVE my BB 6,5!

I personally enjoy little higher tuned snares that has nice ring to them because they usually have more character. I also think that at certain point some modern productions made snare sound so thick and overprosessed that one couldn't really tell bass drum apart from snare if there weren't that shizzle from the snares. :D In this comparison I liked the Brady most and DW was close second just because both had that nice crack, pleasant sustain and more natural sound in a way if that makes any sense.
