So it's not my imagination that my home-made wet palette was doing better than the one I purchased. I'll go back to the old way once I have used the paper I already have.
Man, I follow this channel for a few time already and the tutorials are always better as I go into my adventure in mini painting ! Good job man !
This was by far the best explanation of blending. No other KZreadr has gone this in depth. I feel like I’ve actually learned how to do this. Something I’ve been trying more lately and now it seems so much easier. Thank you!!!
I love your videos, man. Out of all the miniature painting tutorial guys i watch i view yours most often. And the majority of your painting guides work with scale modeling projects, too, and have really helped guide me along as I work on my first project and i thank you for that.
Came to see some glazing, left with some wet pallete knowledge :D Awesome man! Your skin painting is so good, can't wrap my head around it.
That was one of your best videos. I learned in a few minutes how to fix some issues I have for the past 2 years. And we live in California so dry out paint is a daily challenge. Thanks a lot!
Great tip for the wet pallete - I struggle exactly with this problem. Gonna try it next time. Thanks!
Another AWESOME vid: clear, short, to the point with useable tips and undeniable results. For the curious the figure is Kingdom Death, maybe Zumkito is a thigh man, the sculptor is DEFINITLY a fan of curvy figures.
I love your tutorials they're short and on point, with clear messages. It's a very helpful tool when you don't want to submerge into tutorial hell! Thank you!

I'd just like to say how much I appreciate your videos dude. Your content is great and really helps get rid of the self doubt of my painting abilities. I don't have an airbrush yet but, conveniently for once, an ad came up for a portable airbrush that looks pretty reasonable so I might just have to get it.
I had my suspicions that Zumikito was a cultured man. My suspicions are heightened after this video.
Hello Mr. Zumikito! Could you share the link as an example for partialy waxed parchment paper you are using? I tried to google it but could not found it (only fully waxed). Great video btw. After 2 years of watching painting tutorials somebody finally explains how you can get that paint consistency on wet pallete! Cheers from Slovakia brother :)
Diggin the hair 👌
I too switched back to baking paper. But I still use the Redgrass paper when painting mainly with heavy body acrylics.
I will use all the tips in this video on my next mini while singing the fuck glazing song. I didn't know about that wet pallete stuff you said, will try that out to (I've used old paints that have been sitting on my wet pallete for days, this might help upping up my game haha). Thanks for this video!
Listen to this guy, he tells wisdom!
I absolutely LOVE the non-glazing approach you suggested! Unless you're trying to spend 100+ hours on a competition piece, f**k glazing!
Have you used the new re-usable hydration membranes from Red Grass Games? I was wondering how you feel about them. I can't get on with them. Paint reactivated well on them but I think that's more to do with Golden Acrylics thinner I use, the paint seems to dry out very quickly on these membranes vs the old type. It's nice to be able to wash them for re-use but I'm not keen on the drying time of paint on the membrane.
well, hah, my wet pallette is always wet and never seems to dry except when using it with a big fan on. also whoo lanterns reign competition, can't wait to see how it turns out! love your piece for it, awesome colors!
I've been using the Red Grass palette and papers for a while, can you give me any tips on finding the right kind of parchment paper so I can get these smooth, smooth blends?
Ive got a league of Votan box set that i need to paint I will be going for the orange/black colour scheme, i know orange is a pain to use what would you suggest to make it easier to get through the army?
if you use waxed parchment paper, the entire point of a wet pallet is nullefyed, because the waxed paper dos not let any water through. the effect that you witness there is the wax repelling the water content of the diluted paint. but the stipple glazing is a good way of painting. i am using it mostly with diluted washes.
How do you know which parchment paper is slightly waxed? you have a brand or link or something? thank you
Stipple glazeing reminds me of how Richard Grey paints. I love it, and I love how you showed it here.❤️ BTW. you look tired😜

Ye, it's pretty much his signature technique, isn't it 😁 I do ? Perhaps I was just out of shape, as I wasn't recording much in August!
Goddamn that intro was ultra useful
Could I spray a thinned down wash instead of mixing all that stuff in my airbrush cup?
I have a problem. When i have done blends on a mini and i tilt the model to see how it looks from a different angle of light, the gradient blends does not look good (smooth). There is more grading than in the default painting angle. And i am pretty sure i paint with utmost thin layers or glazes. Then repairing the paint work from second angle, it looks ruined in the original angle. How to solve this problem? Anybody else seen the difficulty?
Great video as always! May I ask what miniature is that, I am pretty sure you didn't say it throughout the video, but the model really is gorgeous!
Huh, the wet pallette tips were interesting - my home made job had been producing paint like the desired version here, and I thought it was doing something wrong and being over diluted, so had been trying to achieve the opposite.
Hey, could I ask you what brand of parchment paper you use? I cannot find a brand that would work here in Czechia. Thank you for the tips, great video!

I find it interesting that you recommend waxed paper, since pretty much every other miniature painter recommends none waxed. Do the new re-usable hydration sheets from Redgrass work with their glossy surface?
@Zumikito
Жыл бұрын
I guess that too much wax might also be an issue! The sheets? They work fine if you are used to their old non-reusable, but I still prefer slightly waxed parchment paper. Though if I travel, I take them.
@Bloodfencer1990

@@Zumikito I think too much wax creates a solid surface that stops any liquid from passing through the sheet in either direction.
@Navtyr
Жыл бұрын
@@Zumikito Are you sure the paper you are using is waxed? Generally a coat of wax on the paper means that liquids will not go through the paper. Try to cut a small piece of paper and put a water drop on it. Does it stay in a blob consistency and the bottom side of the paper is dry? Then it's waxed. From your clip, the water was absorbed through the paper, meaning it looks like you are using non waxed paper.
can we get tips for choosing what colours to use when layering? i see you started with a deep red and moved up to a more skin colour tone. how do you figure which colours to use each layer? also awesome video!
@Zumikito
Жыл бұрын
there is no right or wrong answer here, so it depends, This was following sequence: Wine red, beige red, sickly pink (all from AK 3rd gen). You could switch the wine red (basecoat) for more brownish tones etc. The highlight colors can be either light pink or light yellows, also depends (for example "basic skintone" from ak would work. Regarding the shading, pretty much described in the video 💪

Unless you live in an area with very calcified water, you should be fine with tap water to dilute your paint. If you don't have stains on your mini, you are fine.
I had and used Redgrass wet palette too until I realized that I could experience better effect with a locking Tupperware (e.g. Lock-lock).
What are the measurements of the palette you are using?

Does any one knows where i can find this mini?
Really useful Vid, especially the wet pallet tricks.

Paper towels on top of the sponge will not fix this issue for you. Even if you double sponge, it will not do much. You will want to get a more porous paper such as non waxed parchment paper, or get a palette provider that runs similar paper already. Redgrass is not one of them. Exemplar might be (i am still waiting for delivery but i heard it's better)
@necpwnz

@@Navtyr Thanks! Iam already transferring for non-waxed one, but it is still an issue while my paint dries in a 30 mins or even less. I do not like to dilute with retarder.
@Navtyr
Жыл бұрын
@@necpwnz if you spread a very thin layer on the palette it is going to dry a lot quicker regardless of what kind of sponge or paper you are using. If you want it to stay wet longer, either mix more paint or keep a bigger blob of unmixed paint in one spot and take paint out of that when needed to use and thin down. Personally i haven't experienced non waxed parchment yet because i can't find it in my country and shipping a roll from US is absurdly expensive so i can't comment on how much of a difference that makes.

Mate, why do you use water and air brush thinner together, are they have the same finality, don't?
Lovely video and great examples, though I think your logic regarding the wet palette may be wrong. Let me explain; The wet palette is not getting dry because the sponge is holding all the water, I've never seen this and I have the same palette. The water is naturally evaporating which of course dries out the palette. What you're then doing by adding paper towels is in effect adding "more sponge" i.e. more material that will retain water, and more water takes longer to evaporate, which in turn makes the palette stay wet for longer. In short I would expect your trick to work, but not for the reasons you stated, I would think that adding another sponge on top of the first one would have an identical effect. This does make one beg the question why the sponge isn't thicker to begin with, it could easily be twice as thick as it is.
Medium isn't a solvent, it's a polymer. Acrylic to be exact. And medium doesn't evaporate, it cures.
What model is the one on the thumbnail image? Asking for a freind 😅

I think you got your papers mixed up? The one you are using seems non waxed and the one you put to the side for comparison seems waxed as it is not letting the water go through. EDIT: I also tried the paper towel thing underneath the redgrass paper and the result was the same as without paper towels, just that i had to refill water even faster and the surface was all wrinkly. So in reality, all you did was get a non waxed parchment paper instead of redgrass paper which is known to not be porous enough.
