5 Gypsy Jazz Guitars in 2 minutes

I recorded me playing 5 different Gypsy Jazz guitars of varying prices in 2 minutes. I left the EQ flat and only added a little reverb, none of the settings have changed at all during the video - all the guitars were recorded without changing anything in between them. All guitars have Galli 10's on them except the Shelley Park which has Argentine 11's. The mics are an SE Voodoo VR2 active Ribbon mic and a cheap Behringer condenser mic. This wasn't a truly scientific test: I am no sound engineer and I modified my Polaks to bring the string tension down a little (I have some nerve damage in my left hand, you can actually see my hand shaking in the video). On reflection I do think that the guitars sound the same in the video as they do in real life so I am happy that the test is representative.

It's an incredibly hard thing to judge. I bet if you put them in a different order, people would have a different opinion. A lot of it is down to the way that the brain 'normalises' the sound of the one currently playing, then compares the next one to that. Nice work though Paul 👍🏻 What is the reverb you used ?

It is not the guitar, it is the player that matters. All well and fine if you have so much money and showing off your guitar collection.

Thanks for the test! Seems that Altamira sounds quite good in comparison to the expensive ones👍
