5 GPM Pressure Washer Vs 8 Gallon Per Minute Pressure Washer

Whats the best pressure washer to start a successful pressure washing business? You absolutely need to start with at least a 4 gallon per minute pump. Pressure has nothing to do with cleaning times. So both the 5 GPM and the 8 GPM machines are great machines. Both have good and disadvantages.

Mine a an old Ninfish Gerni truck water blaster it is power by an 11hp honda Its very old but still runs really well. Problem cant buy them, any more or even buy parts for it any more. But parts on other water blaster fit unlike to days water blaster that are made of aluminum the whole thing made of brass it wont wait out So I can just keep repairing the check valves on it puts out 9 gal per minute (36lt per minute At 3600 psi. All I got to do is keep replacing check valves it should last for ever

I disagree. Using that logic, you should just buy 2 eights and Siamese them together all the time. Business model is everything when determining equipment. If I’m a solo guy doing 1 or 2 jobs daily with no employees then the 10 minutes per job I’d save with 8 doesn’t benefit me that much. Actually in this scenario I’d probably just go with a 4 GPM. No plumbing or buffer tank issues to deal with and I can spend that money on nicer hose reels, advertising or whatever. If I decide to expand or grow the business then I can bump up to 8 and still have the 4 as a backup.

I used a setup like this. You will get the flow but you won't actually hit that 2500. In theory yes a 13hp machine will produce those numbers but with the one I used it was maxed at around 2200psi 8gpm. I borrowed this unit from a buddy of mine, and I used it for about 2 weeks for house wash and driveways. In all my years of pressure washing I don't think I've ever used over 2000psi so the answer is YES this set up works for most cleanings.

You left out the consideration of GPM flow at the spigot. If you are doing residential, there is NO need for anything bigger than a 5.5 GPM machine. NONE. The few minutes you could save on a job, is far outweighed by the flow issues and a possibly starved/burned up pump. I like you Jason, but sometimes you make no sense or give poor advice. You have to remember that not everywhere is like Cincinnati Ohio. If you are going to sell people your "training", then it should be accurate information, man. No one in this business should even be looking at an 8+ GPM unless they are running crews, or they are doing a fair amount of commercial. Just like a hotbox, no one needs one unless they are cleaning up grease/oil, washing trucks, or working in the cold. I agree, there should be a healthy marketing budget, BUT that too, depends on your location. Poastcards make work some places, other places it may be facebook, yelp, google ads, or what have you. It takes experimentation to find that out. There is NO be all, end all to marketing that universally works everywhere.

I see your point here.. I have a 4gpm and 2-8gpm with the use of a buffer tank the flow at the clients house doesn’t play a role. I used a 8gpm by myself for 2 years it dramatically speeds up the rinse time. Going from 1.5 hours a house to 1 hour per house (on average) I do use the 4gpm as well it definitely comes in handy. I agree hear is never needed except for oil and grease. I do not own a hot box.
