5 Films In The Criterion Collection You NEED To See

Фильм және анимация

In this video I talk about five blu-ray/dvd recommendations from the Criterion Collection catalog that I think everyone should check out! If you want to pick them up, I suggest grabbing them during the Barnes & Noble 50% off sale in the month of November (only a few days left!) or on Amazon/other websites. There are Criterion sales every year so don't worry if you missed out this time, you can still pick these up at a later date! Let me know what you think of the films I've showcased as it's always great to talk to you all. Cheers for watching!

Great vid Matt. Really interesting mix of titles there and all should definitely be on people’s watchlists 👍 even if I’m still undecided on how much I like House lol 😂

Hi, hope you both keeping well. The ones I have seen are worth a recommendation. House is just so nuts and I loved every minute of it. Midnight cowboy is just amazing and deserves all the hype. Don’t look now when I originally watched it I was not to keen on it but back then my taste was very plain but now I love it. I have never seen polyester so I will have to add that to the list and love that extra bonus you get with it. Tokyo story is another one i have not seen but sounds very interesting. Brilliant and take care.

Hey mate! Glad you loved House as much as I did, it's such a whacked, hilariously fun movie lol. That's fair about Don't Look Now, I remember the first time I watched it as well I felt a little bit let down but after revisiting it I ended up loving it a lot more and had a greater appreciation for it. Definitely check out Polyester! It's insane and I can imagine might be a bit divisive with audiences but it's certainly worth a try. You can't go wrong with Tokyo Story either, it's brilliant :) Cheers for watching mate, we really appreciate it!

Don’t Look Now is astonishing! Fetch him fetch him! That psychic was amazing. I love Midnight Cowboy. I live in New York, but it’s much cleaner now. MC captured the 70’s grittiness and craziness of NYC. I love House and Polyester. Wow it has the odor rama card lol!!! Awesome. Pink Flamingos is so insane lol. They actually have it at the NYC library. I enjoyed Tokyo Story very much. Great vid! 👍👍👍👍☕️☕️

And yeah the odorama card is an amazing addition to the release (although it still grosses me out a bit haha). So cool that Pink Flamingos is available at the NYC library, I wonder if many unknowing people were given a bit of a surprise when renting it lmao. Cheers for watching Max! :D

@@amateurfilmies8844 Hahah Pink Flamingos must shock many people! I'm still in shock from it!! NYC films: Sweet Smell of Success. Mean Streets. The Driller Killer. Dog Day Afternoon. Annie Hall. Bananas. Taxi Driver. Across 110th Street. Desperately Seeking Susan. The King of Comedy. After Hours: that movie captures 80's New York very well. Btw, when I was a kid, my next door neighbor was Larry McConkey, the steadicam guy who filmed Goodfellas, Kill Bill, Miller's Crossing etc.....and M. Night Shyamalan sat in front of me in a class at NYU! Now, I'm a film-maker. NYC was a great place for a film lover to grow up in! I saw that it's actually possible to make films, for real.

Your video randomly showed up in my feed today. Most probably I was checking out the many criterion collection flash sale hauls. I will check out House. Is Don’t Look Now supposed to be a supernatural movie? I see that it’s described as a supernatural thriller on Amazon but I couldn’t quite tell from IMDB. I also see that it’s one of the best British movies of all time according to BFI

Hey Thomas! Glad you decided to check out our video 😊 Definitely check out House, it's such an awesome oddity that I love revisiting frequently. As for Don't Look Now, there are supernatural elements and it does have a pretty strong influence on how the movie plays out. I don't want to reveal too much just because I don't want to inadvertently spoil anything but it's absolutely worth checking out. Cool to hear that it's made that list from the BFI, I think it's a fantastic movie. Hope you're able to check it out some day! Cheers for watching mate 😊

Criterion is a very different boutique blu ray company as they have a lot of diversity in their releases, dont get me wrong I love Arrow, Scream Factory etc but they tend to cater for a particular audience whereas Criterion do a little something for everyone. I think from those suggested I may grab House - never seen it and it looks quite mad. Pleased to see a John Waters release mentioned. Here in the UK, back in the late 80s there was a documentary series called 'the incredibly strange film show' where it focused on a particular 'alternative' director each episode, directors such as Sam Raimi, Herschell Gordon Lewis, George Romero, Russ Meyer and John Waters. I hadnt even heard of John Waters at the time and after watching the show and seeing such an interesting character I devoured his film catalogue and to this day he remains one of my favourite directors. (I'm pretty sure all episiodes of the show are up on KZread so if you have an interest in Waters its worth a look up)

Hey mate! Yeah I agree with that opening statement, Criterion certainly have a uniquely wide array of films in comparison to a lot of labels. Glad to hear that you'll give House a chance - it certainly is whacky and absolutely crazy but it's an experience and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. For me, it's the type of film that I would say that even if you don't end up liking the film, you still won't regret watching it if that makes sense. Thanks so much for recommending that show, I'll certainly be looking into it as that sounds like something that Sarah and I would love to watch. John Waters is such an interesting guy and after watching Polyester, I can't wait to keep watching his other films. Thanks very much for watching mate and thanks again for the recommendation :)

Great and diverse picks. I'm bound to region B so my picks are based on those releases. Sansho the Bailiff It Happened One Night The Apu Trilogy 3:10 to Yuma The Cameraman If I had the choice as to which film would get a region B release next, Seven Samurai would be the first. Aside from that all the Chaplin and Hitchcock films should get a UK release, being the most influential English directors in history.

Thank you! You've listed a bunch that I've been wanting to check out for a long time. In particular, I've been wanting to buy Sansho The Bailiff and The Apu Trilogy but I've heard fantastic things about all 5 of the ones you chose. As a side note, I think Zavvi are currently running a pretty good sale on a small selection of region B criterion blu-rays, check it out if you're interested! I do own Seven Samurai but it would be great to see more Kurosawa films get a region B release. And I like your reasoning behind why the Hitchcock and Chaplin films should get a region B release, hopefully they end up doing so because region B Criterions tend to be cheaper and I don't currently own any Chaplin criterions. Cheers for watching and for the recommendations mate! :)

But now I'm on zavvi and now the battle has started, can I not spend money today? Added. If you love Tokyo Story, you’ll love all Ozu films. And if you love all Ozu films you’ll love all Mizoguchi films. Mizoguchi is like combining the setting and shades from a Kurosawa flick with the feelings and emotions from an Ozu film.
