$5 Filipino Street Food Tour in Manila, Philippines 🇵🇭 | Black Nazarene Night Market | Beef Pares
Our first night in Manila and it happens to be the Feast of the Black Nazarene! Millions of people crowd the streets (up to 10 million), and we happen to be right in the heart of all of it. Even amongst the crowds of people, there is definitely a sense of peace and calmness filling the streets. We have no problem navigating the streets of Manila in search of delicious street food. Filipino cuisine is rich in meat, like Beef Pares, but Kelly was still able to find corn, mangos, and peanuts roasted right on the streets of Manila. Forest discovered his favorites: hotdogs and ice cream. Of course, we go for chicken innards and even fried chicken skins. Almost every item is 20 pesos, so we find it super easy to feed our family on less than $10 dollars.
During the Festival of the Black Nazarene, thousands of people come to Quiapo Manila to celebrate the transfer of the cross from one location to another on Good Friday. This is one of the largest Christian festivals in the world. There is a festival on Friday night, and the big pilgrimage the next morning.
This is the start of an epic multi-week vacation in the Philippines! Nothing went as planned for us, but in most instances, it was even better than we had planned. We landed in Manila at the start of the huge festival (Feast of the Black Nazarene/ Poong itim na Nazareno), then we landed in Cebu at the start of another festival (Sinulog), and we ran out of time to thoroughly explore Palawan (but what we experience was amazing). We are already looking forward to our next visit to the Philippines. Join us on this adventure and send us any advice you have.

ABOUT US
We are the Bags Packed Family: Jonathan and Kelly with our three children. We sold our home in Alaska, USA, eight years ago, and headed overseas. We are teachers and found fantastic teaching positions in Chennai, India. Two years later, we moved to the United Arab Emirates. Three years after that, during the beginning of the pandemic, we made the move to our current teaching jobs in Indonesia. We love traveling and finding adventures as a family. We hope that our travels will inspire and provide our children with the confidence to meet new people, try new foods, and enjoy learning a new language. We hope our vlogs will inspire you to get out and travel, too!

Kids are very lucky that they have got parents like you..and in such a small way, they are getting to travel the whole world And your kids are so cute, brave and very smart.. At this age, your children eat whatever they want, that's great. Love from india 🇮🇳 ♥️ ❤️ 💕
The shrimp paste is called BAGOONG which is really good eating with green mango which sour and the shrimp paste is salty. That Filipino hotdogs are usually red. My favorite is Purefoods hotdog. That looks good. Everything there is so cheap and delicious in Manila.

Thanks for the info!
Ube is purple yam, similar to Taro, a root crop --used on most Filipino sweets. Queso (cheese) ice cream usually has tiny bits of cheese in it, puts a little saltiness on the sweetness of cream

I'm watching here because I'm a filipina from philippines 🇵🇭 .. thank you for appreciating our country😊 keep safe godbless
I enjoy watching kids who are adventurous with food. I’m sure your children will grow up to be well adjusted and grounded adults. Way to go parents!
It's nice how you guys are not afraid to try new things. And the kids have no qualms in testing their taste buds.
I love these videos, you kids are lovely! your family really immersed to Philippine culture. I enjoy watching your videos it feels like I'm home.
dude the violet ice cream is ube and we call it ice cream in the streets but its more like a sorbet, btw your older son describes food like a pro. i love your family's energy and courage to try those food and another thing that most people should know that even our veggie dishes have loads of pork so vegans may not enjoy as much as a person that eat and try everything not unless youre going to visit touristy spots or the high end places. overall i love your vids im gonna keep watching, have fun and safe travels!

I was salivating watching your family dig into that mango 😋
You're such remarkable..awesome parents... teaching your kids to learn diversity getting them try ethnic foods & experience different cultures. For sure they will all grow up to be some amazing adults someday bc they can easily adopt. Kudos to you both for the upbringing of your kids! They're very fortunate kids to have you as their parents!!❤😊
This is by far the most un-biased street food review of all time. You even had your kids try most of the street foods (just be careful with some though). More powers and God bless your family! Love your videos! :)
I love your family and your kids are very polite and respectful. They know how to respectfully and honestly express themselves if they liked or disliked something. Your kids must really have matured sense of smell, tastebuds, eyesight for food and appreciating different textures because most of the food that you guys tried can only be appreciated through an acquired taste. Hands up and for that I subscribe and I'm a fan now!!!
Awesome and beautiful family. Thank you for trying and liking our street foods. 🙂

The purple ice cream is "Ube" (ooh-beh)...or purple yam...very popular Filipino ingredient in many sweet and savoury dishes/desserts... Have fun.

Wish you had come here during the Christmas holidays so that you'd experience a very heartwarming Christmas holiday. Been following your vlog for some time now hopefully we could meet you in person. Amazing Family 😍
enjoy the food
it's cool your kids experience jollibee!
yummy or delicious is masarap
Jonathan when you buy ice cream in a cone you can tell any ice cream vendor to mix it up all the flavors in one cone. If the ice cream vendor has a hamburger bread bun with him you can also tell him you want an "ice cream sandwich". Its good to see you are exposing your children to different cultures outside the U.S. So going around the world they won't be "fearful of the unknowns". Where some people who are non travelers become so unfamiliar to other race or cultures they become fearful or worst racists. Enjoy the Philippines lovely family and have fun. 😊❤
Your kids was so nice. Very humble.. good family
