My orange boy lived for 17 years 💕 I'm glad I got so many years with him. He passed away end of May this year, its been hard without him. edit: As if losing my orange boy wasn't hard enough, less than 10 months later (this March) my little tabby girl passed away at the age of 6. Her heart stopped beating during a dental surgery and they couldn't revive her. The past 12 months have been the hardest time for me. I lost her so early in her life and I miss her with my whole soul. RIP Simba & Peach.

I had a Male cat who lived to 20 years. He was a big boy too. His head was the size of a grapefruit!!! He was about 3ft. Long and weighed about 30-35lbs. He looked like a Russian blue. @@hollykilberger5989 Any time I see an orange cat, I typically assume it's male. There's a feral one roaming around my property, and my girl HATES him. To the point when I'm giving her harness walks on two lengths of bungee cord, she will charge and strain against me to drive him away. I can't get close enough to gender the guy, since he associates me with my Sada and runs any time I show my face. But I assume male, judging by Jackson's "pumpkin face." I'm torn on whether I should buy a raccoon trap, or alert the Humane Society to catch him. The main problem is that he's making my girl pee territorially. Just last night, she pissed _directly on me_ while I was sleeping. That was a bad morning. IDEK what.

Sad it was his third time. My new little boy had some trauma as his former people introduced a puppy and he (originally named Tom) was upset. So they gave him to the shelter… no words. I knew from the rehoming officer that she thought she might have difficulty placing him given this. Many folk expect instant love from their new companions. As I have had cats in my life since I was 10 we agreed that I likely was a good choice to adopt. He took some time to emerge from hiding and I am utilising Jackson’s videos to help me increase his confidence. Taking it day by day. Baby steps. It makes my heart swell when a little more trust is shown.

Yes, older animals are always overlooked. I was caring for a feral after an infection from her spay. She had recently weaned her kittens before she was trapped for spay. The rescue asked me to keep her until spring when it would be less problematic for her, so I did. Then, come spring, they said she spent too much time indoors and could no longer be released. She was absolutely miserable stuck in jail, she never came out of hiding. I figured adopting another kitty who had lived with humans inside might be good for her. Several adoptions fell through. Then I saw my Miso. He was just a kitten. His now mommy adopted him because she worked from home. Just after she adopted him, her job changed to where she had to go to a worksite daily and lots of travel was involved, she she was looking to re-home him. I fell in love and applied. She accepted and Miso moved in!! I thought maybe the feral would be better with a kitten since she had just had a litter, but she got worse. She seemed very depressed to me, hid even more and ate much less. I found a wonderful man who was looking to adopt a barn cat. He had animals on his farm and wanted natural pest reduction. I vetted him very well and everything checked out. It was the very best home for her. She'd be fed daily, get vet care, live wherever she chooses and loved. So he adopted her. She's absolutely thriving!!!!

When I was really young, my family had a cat named Ralph. Ralph had been a greenhouse cat until he came to live with us. My dad didn’t want to fix him, wanted to keep him a “man”. Ralph would be out all night cattin’ around, getting in fights, searching for loose she cats all night, then he’d come home and collapse once he cleared the threshold. He’d sleep all day, get up, eat, and back out again being the town stud. Ralph only lived to be eight years old. He lived hard and fast and, I’m sure, he had no regrets.

@ColonialBuckeye Sometimes it is to the death. Our neighbors had a young tom about 5 months old who was attacked by a huge ginger tom. The tom tore open the younger cat's belly, and all of his insides were exposed. The neighbors found their kitten on their porch the next morning in that condition. He had gone into shock and passed.. I saw it---it was horrible. (Jan Griffiths).

Well, Ralph might have lived to be eighteen if your dad fixed him. I had neighbors myself who believe there is no need for a dog to go to the vet. Those were country folk who believed the vet was there for the cows and the pigs only. So none of their dogs lived to be older than six years old. When they saw my 12-year-old dog their jaws dropped because they didn't know dogs could live that long.

Every single pet that I’ve had over the years were fixed as soon as they became the proper age. I just wanted to share something about a cat that I remember and you comment about my father. What is wrong with you? Do you feel everyone should see things as you do, even before you were born? Also, you assumed my father was stupid. 🤦‍♀️ I not loving getting older, but I am so grateful for when I grew up. Those were great times to be a kid and people were waaayy more decent to each other.

@@verucasalt2391 Sorry if I had known your age I wouldn't have responded to your comment at all but just leave it be. Your family member didn't care very much for your cat's health and instead of admitting it, you feel proud of it saying that "the cat was happy". I strongly disagree. I should have phrased it differently and said that the decision not to neuter the cat wasn't the best. Still, I know from experience how set in their ways people your age are and that it's pointless to discuss anything at all. The past is the best and the current generation is terrible. The only problem is, that Aristotle said the same thing about his generation. I have neighbors who are 50 years behind the rest of the world in their thinking which caused the painful deaths of multiple animals. Some of them died of diseases they could have been vaccinated against. Others died fighting other animals or being run over by cars. To me it's deplorable, they think it's " how nature intended". Yet when they are sick they go to the doctor immediately. Funny that. Have a nice day and forget that anyone dared to contest truths you hold to be self-evident. You might ask people your age who are not white or heterosexual how great life fifty years ago was though and how decently they were treated.

In the 50 years on our farm we have had about 20 barn cats. Almost all neutered by our vet and all males until 2 years ago. Many were young but not kittens and all lived to at least 17 years and a couple to 20. Some were semi feral but tamed down quickly and all became super friendly. Only Charlie our first lived inside and out. Rest lived in our barn.

I have the best cat story ❤️ we adopted our GIRL ginger tabby (RARE!) at the shelter. I didn't realize she was at the shelter from 1.5 years old until 5.5 years old until the 1st vet appointment when they looked at the paperwork! YES! She was at the no kill shelter for 4 years 😭 she is the sweetest kitty I've ever had and I love her so so so much! She is a (mostly) indoor/but also outdoor cat. We took out a window screen and cut up one of those magnet closure screens and she jumps in and out. She is extremely territorial....if another cat comes around she'll defend us no matter what. But she kisses me and always needs our approval. She has terrible anxiety and eats like crazy if we leave for a short 2 day vacation (separation anxiety, probably bc she was left so long at the shelter). She HATES other cats. But she'll come right up to me and want to be as snuggly as possible. She strangely will use the litter box at the same exact time i use the bathroom- like its some sort of bonding experience?! I've never had a better cat in all my life! My husband, who has never been fond of cats, freaking loves her with all his heart ❤️

Yeah, they usually are. But I also had females who were really chill as well! Well, with me she was. Strangers not so much! But she jist wanted my lap and cat TV and sunbathe! I miss her so much. But my male cat, he really comforted me. He was always chill but standoffish as well. He didn't care of he got attention or not. But when she passed, it was like we got even closer because we bonded with each other over her death. I always loved him, but I got her before him and she just always, and will always, have a special place in my heart. It would even make me feel guilty about not giving Pal enough attention even though he never wanted it. But he curled up on my lap for the first time when she passed away. And he was just so comforting! I couldn't have gotten through it without him! And now that I have rescued another cat, he took quite a liking to her, as I think he would have HATED another male cat so I was purposefully trying to look for a female. It warms my heart every time they greet each other! She is all over him and he just stands there happily letting her check him out and then he would check her out bit calmly! It's too cute!

Male cats (neutered) tend to be far more friendly and wanting of tickles and cuddles, they’ll actively come to you and demand it a lot of the time. Female cats tend to be more shy, a bit more aloof and want more private time. I’ve had many cats over the years my favourite was a female cat, but every favourite after that have been all males. All cats have their own characters of course, but the odds are a male cat is more likely to be that much more attached to you and soak up cuddles and love for longer durations.

My female cat would disagree. My male and female actually race each other for their favorite spot on me when I lay down. And whoever gets there second will pile on too. I would say that my male and female are equally snuggly and loving. And neither is the slightest bit aloof.

I had a male cat who was diagnosed with FLUTD. He only had a few minor blockages during times of extreme stress. Being careful with his food, making sure he drank water and monitor his litter use was all that was needed. Sometimes he needed the medical food but not often. He lived to be almost 18 and his end in life had nothing to do with blockages. People do tend to find that disorder scary, but as long as you know the signs or the major triggers (although it can happen out of no where, hence needing to know the signs) you can mitigate the worry and stress for you and the pain and discomfort for the kitty.

I had a boy white kitten as a kid, who was born in our house, from a litter of 5. The world he knew, was our house and backyard. He grew up to be such a skiddish little boy, we would say he was scared of his own shadow. Years went by and we never bothered to take him to get neutered because we knew he would be wayy too scared of the journey, and we didn't want to terrify and traumatize him. Our boy Whitey was with us unneutered for 8 years, ultimately dying from a tumor at 8 years old. He never strayed, never left our property even tho we let him outside and let him have his freedom. He was never the typical tom cat that wanted to wander.. He would chew my hair and make biscuits on on my back every night as I fell asleep... I miss that sweet boy because I know he was a rare one, as typically males that are not neutered wander away but our boy stayed with us until the end ❤❤❤

It's one of the most infamous pet killers around. The stuff tastes good to them, apparently it's sweet. I have 6 cats. 4 male gingers and 2 female. They are all rescues. My oldest, male, 2 males and 2 female from the same litter. My neighbors cat had a litter of 4. I took them all because the few people who were interested were less than desirable as pet parents. And the last boy I got was from the litter mate of the other 4. I have been with the litter of 4 since they were born. After a couple of weeks I started bringing them to my house for a short time every day so I could introduce my oldest to them. He was a champ right from the start. They all had their appointments to get spayed and neutered before they came to live with us permanently. The last one I got was because the person who originally adopted him didn't take care of him. We lived in a campground and this person didn't get him neutered, no shots, nothing. This beautiful little boy would come to my house and just sit and talk to my other 5. I told the man that as soon as I could take care of all those things, I was going to take his cat. He was fine with it and thats what I did. So now we have a happy family of 8. Including my husband and I. My big boy is 6 years old now and the other 5 will be 3 years old soon. And none of them fight. What a blessing for us. Can't tell I'm a proud and happy cat mom can you lol

She rules over the boys 😂 there is only 1 that can come close to her. She bullies the other males, want to eat alone, sleep on the highest place. She’s like the queen and the boys are peasants 😂. I have one that has always been very attached to me but since a few months he keeps jumping on my back/neck and gets comfy. It was cute first but it’s getting bad. I have to be careful what I wear not to put holes in new clothes and my back is full of tiny scratches. Don’t know why he started doing it. I think he’s jealous of me looking after my plants.

Then, he began to cuddle again amd now he is a real cuddle machine! And I don't want to miss that ever. I love it. When I go to bed, he comes with me. He has to put go under the blanket once, turn around, go under it once more, come out once moore, then just falls over and starts purring. Don't stress over it because the cats will pick up on your stress. Just let them be and they will get used to each other in no time. I've never had a problem introducing new cats. For those who don't realize just how "un-fun" the spraying habits of an entire male cat can be: My "Aunt Mildred" (great grandaunt) in her old age lived in a fancy apartment; my mom used to take us kids along when she went to visit. Aunt Mil had a tomcat and that cat had sprayed her chair and table legs until the finish melted off. The smell was enough to stun a vulture, but Aunt Mil didn't seem to notice (she was very old, in her 80s). When she passed, all her furniture, bedding, clothing etc had to be destroyed.

We had a male tabby that died suddenly from illness that had lived a hard, hard life as a younger cat. I think he had fireworks thrown at him at some point because the Fourth of July always saw him running somewhere to hide for the night. He was maybe 6 or 7 when he died. He was a brawler and was all muscle, with big jowls. We brought him home from the pound (he'd been labeled as a barn cat and we kept him outside) and he had all the stray cats that had been passing through our yard chased off within the week; after that, he went on nightly patrols to establish his territory and the block was his after that. There were quite a few fights during that time where he got hurt and there were a couple of trips to the vet, but his wide leather collar probably saved his butt more than we know. We have a big yard, so he stayed close, but he had been a street cat for long enough that roaming was just something he did. He was such a sweetheart though, always happy to see us, purring and meowing, and I like to believe that he knew we were his forever home. The people at the pound told us that he wasn't going to be a lap cat and certainly wouldn't be jumping anywhere, but they only said that because he'd been in the pound for so long that his muscles had grown weak and he'd gotten fat from not being able to move around and he wasn't crazy about them. Within a couple of months, he'd shed his pound weight, was jumping and climbing with no problem, and was lounging around in my brother's lap as his seat of choice for nap time. My brother trained him to push a button on an automatic feeder, shake, and sit. Our boy was super smart; he even looked both ways when crossing the street and would use a mirror to look at us when he was too lazy to move his head! We miss him every day and there will never be another one like him. Sadly, we only had him for about three years.

Idk what breed they are. My male Shadow is short-haired black and female Stormy is short-haired gray. Both vocal & affectionate, in different ways. I know what you're saying though. I think females are more reserved or picky in how they show affection. Males are more open or carefree. For example, if I reach to pet Stormy on her head, she backs her face up with squinty eyes, smells my fingers THEN proceeds to pet me 😆, like its on her terms. Not a fan of being picked up, has a soft purr and vocal with a specific purpose like a greeting, for food, or playtime with her brother (when the lights go off for bedtime). Shadow on the other hand, wants affection constantly, wants me to hold him, wants to be included in whatever I'm doing, and is obsessed with chewing/sucking on my fingers with the loudest purr I've ever heard. He's my vocal just to be heard ride-or-die. "His spot" is the little spoon up near my neck/chest so he can hear my heartbeat. Stormy likes to be under the covers in the bend of my knees, or if I'm on my left side, she'll lay on top of my right side with my arm behind her, and her face in my neck.

She was the instigator in the mayhem of our home. She would tease her older "brother" endlessly and he'd finally retaliate, then she tried to play innocent. My boy was a 22 pound neutered Tuxie. He died quite suddenly, with no warning, at age 7.

I feel for you. My 3rd male cat also died suddenly at age 7. He had been diagnosed with a heart murmur and I wasn't worried so it was a shock to wake up and find him gone.

Thank you for this segment Jackson! I wish more people would pay attention to it. I live in the South where everyone says have your females spayed cause they're the ones that have the kittens. We need to have them all spayed and neutered because it's better for the cats 👍

I have two beautiful male cats who I just adopted a few weeks ago. My orange tabby is the most cuddly cat I've ever met. I'll wake up in the morning to find him cuddled up next to me. He's not a door dasher, but if I would let him, he would just stroll out the front door whenever I open it. My gray tabby is a little more mischievous. He likes to jump on the counters when I'm not looking and he picks play fights with his brother. Regardless, they're both the loves of my life

An excellent reminder to please spay/neuter your pets, even if you feel as if you "just can't do it". It will be healthier for their lives in the long run and save you a lot of trouble too.

@@whyjustwhy2168 all my cats lived to at least 20. When I told her what I fed him, she laughed and said it was the cheetos of cat food. Ir was just dry food and wet food you buy in the grocery store. She also told me that it was the love he got that gave him a long life. I recently adopted a senior cat. He was around 13. His name was and is frank. I feed him no grain chicken and egg dry food. He won't eat people food. He's a little shrimp. I love him too. He's an odd little thing. More like a stuffed animal! I've loved all my animals thru my life. It seems you do too. I hope he lives a long healthy life.

@@margochristensen6359 ty I am doing friskies and walmart brand but going to try to mix in some better food. I just make sure is little water mixed in like extra moisture. Now I have let his mats go but idk what to do about that he bites the brush maybe little at a time. I won't subject him to shave again he hates that. I just had a kitten die so it really opened my eyes to how fragile life is and how short. So hopefully I can afford better food but I don't think what I'm giving is bad. Lot of advertising and marketing I just reading between the lines. Giving the best care possible is the goal moving forward

Thank you Jackson! I actually have an orange female cat!!! Her name is Pumpkin AKA Punky :) We rescued her mother who was pregnant with 5 kittens when she showed up at our patio door. We kept Punky and two of her siblings and found wonderful homes for the others. We already had 2 cats and now have 5 total. Your videos and books have helped me a great deal! 😺😺😺😺😺

I foster cats and currently have a 2 year old male ginger tabby (friendly former street cat) who only just got neutered a week ago- was very happy to start introducing him to the other cats to get him out of the foster room because as sweet as he is he is definitely a Denise the Menace who needs more space
