The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

I wish there was a mod for outfit recognition. Guards will acknowledge you are wearing azura's star or carrying the mace of molag bal. So why not recognizing you are wearing stormcloak, imperial, thief, wolf, nightingale, mage robes... etc? Beyond this, an affinity calculator as well. You’re dragon born, thane of everywhere, savior of the world, and no one gives a crap…

I meant more genuine reaction, and there is a mod out there called 'disguise' something. Now, if you wear imperial, storm cloaks will attack. If you wear necromancer, everyone will attach, wear forsworn and markarth guards attack - not just comments. Likewise, wear forsworn and you can walk into a forsworn camp. As a Nord, I wore thalmor robes and walked freely into Northwatch Prison.

I started a game with "Altnerative Start" where I'm basically Indiana Jones or Lara Croft. I'm a Breton Scholar/Tombraider from Highrock, just arrived in Skrim with a collection of documents and whispered rumors pointing to the locations of mysterious dragon word walls scattered around skyrim and I want to study as many as I can. So I will spend the first part of the game gathering all of the useful Dragon words before I encounter the actual dragons. At some point might go investigate the "disturbance at Helgen" and follow the Main plot, discovering that I'm, in fact the Dragonborn of legend and be able to unlock the dragon words that I've learned along the way

@@lorrainekissane5641 do you have some lore insight that might suggest that The Last Dragonborn necessarily has to be a certain race, gender, or background? Even the vanilla game leaves it pretty open to the player. Yes, as I recall the Septim line of Emperors were all were Dragonborn, but there isn't anything to suggest that Akatosh's gift of dragon blood had to be inherited. (on this note, Tiber Septim's race is steeped in controversy and he might well have originally been a Breton himself according to some)

To the public, she's a nice little urban Alteration Noncombatant mage, nice to everyone, doesn't speak their language well, quiet nice nobody. Who also runs Thieves Guild, steals everybody's cheese and garlic, runs the Dark Brotherhood and 1shots dragons with Merunes Dagon's razor. --- "Did you hear about the Emperor? Dark time indeed" says the Guard. "Yes is terrifying-able! Solitude is no-safe!!" says the nice Argonian Alteration Mage that killed the emperor. For those that did not yet conclude from the comment section, 3/5 of these mods (imperious, ordinator and aurora) are from the same content creator: EnaiSaion. This creator also did apocalyps magic, a mod for more shouts, better vampire perks, a oblivion-esque arena under riften, a collection of many fun and engaging new enchantments and two combat overhauls for when you find the normal skyrim combat too clunky (or forgiving). Finally he made all his mods compatible and has many little combo's hidden between them. They are meant to be played together. Seriously, look this guy up if you haven't yet.

I created a battlemage, who after escaping goes on a journey in search of the hidden secrets of Skyrim lore. After arriving in Winterfell I met some of the people in the mages school and upon finishing their quests I am now raiding tombs and exploring the deepest depths. But my character is getting old and with that he bought a nice home in hopes of settling down after all the many years of exploration and dragon fighting. With a wife and alchemy and enchanting to keep me busy my character can spend the rest of his days listening to the whispers of those around him about younger adventurers looking to discover the secrets of a sleepy Skyrim.

Also there are some good PCEA 2 animations that went very well with the fencer. Even though most of them are meant to be use by females. Still if you play a fencer character, that isn't really such a problem imo. Still think there should be more "less brutish male" animations out there instead of the hulky ones.

I know that most people probably don't care about this very much but to me aesthetic is a very important part of role-playing. The character creation in Oblivion might have allow you do done some ridiculous things but at least it allowed you to create an unique and distinctive character. That's why I found character's creation in Skyrim rather lacking. I felt like it was streamlined to a point when all of the characters you could make looked kind of the same. That's why I would add to your list two more mods: RaceMenu and ApachiiSkyHair.

The main problem with Skyrim is that even if you add a lot of depth, the quests are really shallow and almost never give you any freedom to blaze your own path. It's almost like World of Warcraft. But while it gets a pass due to it being an MMO, Skyrim has no such excuse when all of it's predecessors did much better. Even Oblivion had more of a roleplay feeling to it. With Oblivion it was mostly that the quests were hard to find, so when you did find one it felt organic. Also it meant that your character would mostly only find the quests that he/she finds while you roleplay them. As in, a murderous character would likely find the dark brotherhood, while a noble paladin never would. Compare this to Skyrim, where every quest seems like an MMO-npc with an exclamation mark on their head gave it to you. Even the quest log looks like that. In order to make Skyrim an RPG, you'd need to revamp it completely.

In Oblivion the character I played the most was a dark elf woman with vibrant-bright-fiery-reddish-orange hair. I named her Iskierka (which means "little spark" in Polish) and made her a mage specializing in fire-related spells. Not the most original idea ever, but I was a child when I came up her. I was so disappointed when years later Skyrim came and I was unable to recreate Iskierka because all hair colors available to Night Elves were washed up and un appealing. To be honest, I know that characters in Oblivion looked like potatoes in wigs but sometimes characters in Skyrim are not that much better. Most of them look extremely old and tired, with washed-up colors.

Idk how I feel about Imperious. Skyrim’s basic races were a lot like 5e D&D races. Each race has benefits towards a certain play style, but you’re never going to be handicapped based on what race you choose. Imperious does handicap you if you want, say, an orc Mage.

The main problem with roleplaying in Skyrim (from my six years of experience playing and modding that game) it's not that you can't do it, but that there's no consequence for doing it. The vanilla game is so lackluster in the RPG departament that no matter the amount of mods you add, if you actually expect to make an impact to the world of Skyrim... you just can't. And if that's what you're looking for then no matter what you do, you're not gonna get that, because that's just not how the game is built. So your "roleplaying experience" is for you alone and it's determined by the "plot" you want to give to your character. For example, I started a playthrough as a vampire lord that isn't the dragonborn, and I'm going around with an entourage of four other vampire lords (followers I've turned into vampire lords) trying to change everyone in Skyrim into vampires, specially the important npcs. Because my character is a power hungry vampire lord wood elf, and that's what she would do. Now... am I making an impact into the world? Of course not. No one is treating me differently. Some guards and other npcs may say things like "Those eyes are scary" or "you're creepy as fuck woman!" and many npcs that I've turned into vampires are now going around biting other npcs whenever they get hungry (without calling the attention to the guards though) but other than that... nothing has changed, I know nothing ever will. Like... there's never going to be a branch of Dawnguard or Vigilant members who will ambush me (and I don't mean the usual patrol, I mean that they're not going to see me as the biggest threat ever and act in consequence), no one in any of the cities is ever going to see me as a threat unless they see me eating someone, the empire is never going to notice what I've been doing in Skyrim so they're never going to blacklist me and send someone to kill me and if I decide to join them in the Civil War NOW (now that I've turned almost every Jarl and rich and powerfull person in Skyrim into vampires) I still can, and if I decdied to start the main quest, I'll end up becoming "the hero of Skyrim" (even though I've basically cursed the majority of the population) no matter what And don't get me wrong, I'm having a blast playing that way. To me it's the only good way of playing Skyrim. But since it wasn't built to be played that way, just don't expect for the game to have lasting consequence.

You know. Not having an effect on the open world has been my only major complaint about Skyrim. Still a wonderful game but I want to effect the physical world, the social world, and political world, around me. There are no major last effects of your decisions in the game. I hope this changes in game 6... Another cool change would to be create more personality and speech in npc's. Granted that might not be easy to program. But if characters behavior and speech changed over time and based upon your character then that would make replay-ability endless.

I agree for the most part, but as a game developer myself, from a technical standpoint it's important to remember Skyrim is old. It uses an old engine, its everything is dated! To make something that could dynamically respond to the character's actions was, and still is for the most part, impossible. There were certainly things they could have added, but remember for the vast majority of mods you need SKSE. That's because the base game just isn't capable of handling a large number of complex scripts that need to work at once, it wasn't built that way. I think Bethesda did the best they could given the time they had to develop it, engine limitations, and the day and age it was created in. Absolutely, they could have made more interesting and immersive things, and let you change the world more, but certainly not easily. Might also have been a design choice on their part, because, realistically, no one person is going to drastically alter the world, even if they're the chosen one. Whatever you individually do, the world's going to keep on going. Kind of a comforting, or lonely, thing.

This is only one simple reason Skyrim (as a game standing on its own) sucks, however the problem with Skyrim (alongside Fallout 3 and Oblivion) is that its neither an RPG in any sense, nor is it a good game on its own with well designed mechanics, meaningful story, and/or basically anything you could use to strike as making a good game. These Bethesda games suffer from a simplification of the player, they believe the player is incapable of playing a game without a shiny thing to follow or do, they believe against "making your own fun," they in fact don't believe in exploration or discovery, and they most certainly have no regard for player expression. Skyrim's opener is a perfect example of what I mean, absolutely nothing in that is player driven and even choosing who you follow to leave changes nothing other then the clothing of the enemies and allies. It doesn't even effect how anyone reacts to you after you leave either, you're an escaped convict condemned to death (for the most retarded reasons I might add, and you can't even define it yourself) who may have chosen the side of the rebels and no one in the empire cares, or you might be a spy for the empire clearly walking around yet nobody ever does anything in the Stormcloak cities. That's just the interaction with the world. That's excluding the fact that Skyrim is a button mash fest with no gameplay whatsoever. (if Skyrim had a multiplayer mode and used the systems it has for it you would bet it become another EA Star Wars Battlefront) There isn't any depth to the narrative, the game design, the worldbuilding, there isn't a sliver of player interaction. The only thing Skyrim has going for it are the mods, which Bethesda has figure out means they don't need to develop the game anymore to further its profit, just take the Garry's Mod approach. (except keep the whole game locked behind walls on an engine older and more broken then GMod, a game that came out over 5 years before Skyrim, with a scripting language more convoluted, shittier, and broken then implementing any bit of Lua, which btw is a piece of cake [and is dramatically faster and fucking safer then anything Bethesda could remotely do, not to mention widely known, adopted, and easy to comprehend] compared to the mess that is papyrus, with a modding kit as useful as a sledgehammer to your keyboard every 2 minutes, not to mention the shitty documentation and clearly inadept developers) Also Night Stick how are you a developer using that as an excuse, both Daggerfall and Morrowind did that hundreads of times better, hell it was actually possible to do it in GMod despite the fact that game is over 10 years old on the engine it runs. (hell New Vegas had that functionality on the same fucking engine, not to mention both Fallout and Fallout 2 did it, CRPGs did this all the goddamn time, and some of them didn't even need to develop specific actions and instead just created systems that "generate" their own reactions to certain events, which btw could easily be developed in an A"RPG") Skyrim just simply fails to be developed by anyone competent, clearly it wasn't even designed by any actual game designers.

You can also choose a super nature so you can start off as a werewolf and not have to choose and still progress through the companions and can become a vampire without being in a filthy cave or be part of Lord Harkon's court.

DamienDarksideBlog Agreed, my personal favorite is Imperious. That mod makes Bretons even more broken - you get an additional passive from any standing stone and can effectively steal the racial power of Nords, Altmer, Dunmer, and imperials.

I prefer SPERG over ordinator. Where ordinator adds tens of perks that are super situational and boost damage or things by a small degree, SPERG has fewer perks, but they are more powerful.

There aren't any sites out there that a creator can use to accept donations from users that DON'T take a little bit for themselves... Patreon, GoFundMe, KZread, Twitch...... all take a little bit from the donations. Basically, it's pick your poison.

love the ordinator mod for conjuration, because you can use 2 minions early on, but it makes it more balanced by making you weaker when you dont have an active one. I also love the skeleton army thing they got going on there, absolutely makes necromancy useful

Nice mods. I used them at some point... But the main problem I have with offline games is stupid enemy leveling systems. The only reasonable system for me would be time-dependent leveling, when enemies become stronger with time spent in game.

ocato's recital from apocalypse is the most op spell. i use it all the time when doing a mage playthrough. you can store up to three spells and when an enemy is nearby they automatically activate without losing of magicka. and the best thing is that you can get it early in the game.

There are so many more though. Some that I have revamp the civil war rewards making it feel like "yeah empire soldiers would use this" or the heavy weapons mod which adds all new weapon types. So if you're a spear guy get your spear. Imperious race height overhaul fixes that weird height problem

Awesome video! Although as a heads up the "Ordinator" mod link in the description is for the regular Skyrim, not the special edition. So if you are having issues with your game launching after installing these then that could be the reason why. Find the SE version of the Ordinator through search.
