5 EDITING HACKS that’ll Transform ANY Landscape PHOTO!!

In this week’s episode, we discuss 5 editing hacks that'll transform any landscape photo!! I'm not 100% certain as to what actually constitutes a "hack", but I do believe the editing techniques mentioned in this video all fall under the new definition of an editing hack. So how many times have you been to an amazing location, identified a composition that compliments the scene well - all the ingredients of an amazing image begin to fall into place. But, towards the end of your session the light and or weather conditions never quite materialize as you had hoped. This exact scenario is far too often the norm when it comes to landscape photography.
In this video, I want to share with you 5 editing hacks that I use on my landscape photos to recreate the lighting or weather conditions I was hoping for, but didn't receive when I was on-location. All 5 of these editing hacks are extremely simple, quick to apply and will transform any landscape photo. I typically don't use all 5 of these editing hacks on a single image, but in this video I review a photo I recently posted on KZread that called for all 5 of these editing techniques or "hacks" to be applied. I think you'll be pretty surprised to see where this image originally started and where it ended up..total transformation!
I hope you're able to pick up some new editing techniques from this week's video that you can apply to your landscape photography the next time the conditions don't materialize as you had originally anticipated.
If you enjoyed this video, please consider giving it a thumbs up and let me know what you think in the comments below - I guarantee I'll get back to ya.
Thanks for watching everyone!
-Mark D.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who pushes those sliders to the extremes just to see what it looks like. My whole approach is to go to each end, back and forth, and slowly hone in to the "acceptable" range of effect I'm looking for, and then see if I can find the sweet spot.

It is so refreshing to see the SOOC shot versus the final edit. The hacks you shared are indeed very helpful. I have a park not too far from home where I generally go biking. There are a series of bridges on the trail, and one particular set of bridges always fascinated me. First, because they were two bridges together. Second, because the lighting always lent itself to some creative and moody shots. Well, this spring it finally happened. I was able to get a shot with the right light where I wanted it to be. However, I still had to hack the image in the editing to accentuate the mood in the shot. Hacks such as what you showed are a great tool. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Mark, thank you so much for this video, really cool to see the raw, completely unedited photo and the end result after postprocessing. I don't know about everybody else but I'd be really interested to see more videos where you go through the whole process of editing a photo from scratch. The reason I say this is because I always thought that a lot of the amazing photos I've seen are largely captured out of camera with little post-processing (and I'm sure a lot of them are!), but this video really does a good job of showing the whole end to end process. Thanks again!

Great work Mark . I am currently working through a mountain of shots taken on what will probably end up being a once in a lifetime , early winter trip to New Zealand. We were on a tight schedule so I had to take my shots as and where I found them. I use my (limited) editing skills to reproduce the image as captured by my mind's eye. I cut my teeth on black and white film photography around 40 yrs ago . Taking the photo was just one small step in the process , so I have no dogmatic ideological prejudice against modern editing techniques. While I try to achieve as much in camera as possible , editing is just another part of the process and is not something for which you should ever feel the need to apologize.

Great video. One o the best and probably most useful I've seen in a long while. It also shows that you can do a lot of work in LR without going to PS.
