When I was a kid, there were these two bald eagles that would build a nest every year near the river by my grandparents house. Grandpa called the wildlife people (I don't know who exactly),they said he must be mistaken as they were extinct where we live. He sent them photos and they still said it couldn't be. Over the years many people, including a forest ranger and a newspaper reporter called in their sightings and sent in pictures. Finally, after about 15 years some scientist guy was down there studying the fish in the river and "discovered" the family of eagles. Now, it's official,what was already common knowledge. There are bald eagles near many of the lakes and rivers in my county. I'm basically trying to say that just because the "right" people haven't seen something doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I've seen 2 live mountain lions, one dead one in a water tank and zero bear remains. Seen lots of live bears. No bigfoots. No tracks. But still would not be surprised if real evidence of their existance turned up. The wilderness is vast especially when you hit Canada. And have to admit that the patty film is still very compelling.

I’ve had contact with several tame puma. They scream rather than roar and have a loud, gravelly purr. That startles a lot of people when they first visit one.

Cheetahs are a good example. They're massive but sound exactly like housecats

I'm way behind to do this but I do know of a really interesting explanation for several crypids: Old old folklore. As in Ice Age old. It sounds a little crazy but we actually have instances of stories making it from that far back: the aboriginal people of Australia actually have stories documenting a rise in sea levels about 20,000 years ago. There's also a story that I believe is Inuit about the king bear/ weasel bear: A massive polar bear that destroyed a village. We thought it was just a myth for a long time, and then remains of an animal fitting its description were found confirming the story. For an example from the list the Orang Pendek sounds a lot like Homo Florensis, a short hominid native to Indonesia that overlaps with modern humans! It obviously doesn't catch everything but I think that it's an interesting idea to consider! Ice age creatures get STRANGE.

This reminds me of a theory I have heard about the human fear of dragons and scorpions. The first humans were around during the time of the last dinosaur-like creatures. So early humans had to be careful not to be eaten by "dragons." There was a prehistoric animal called the sea scorpion. Its ecological niche was sort of like the alligator. Early humans would go down to the edge of the water and be grabbed and pulled in by the sea scorpions! So through genetic instincts and through folklore passed down for a million years, modern people are still scared when they see the shape of a dragon or scorpion.

In fact, sea scorpions could have been amongst the first creatures to go on dry land! So far before pthipthalik - the fish/ampibium like creature that ventured on to the new environment and ultimately become ancestor of us all!

I think one of the reasons we’re so interested in Cryptides is because we actually know so much now. That nothing really surprises us anymore, and we’re secretly hoping/wanting to be amazed by something if not by anything at all.

i think a very large part of why cryptids are so pervasive is a lot simpler: scammers. There is easy money in it so people perpetuate the myths to sell things. Then human psychology takes over and folks make it part of their personality to be more tribal/part of a group. At least in my experience here in the PNW, the folks that "believe" in bigfoot make it a large part of their outfacing personality. They have stickers on their cars, they post about it on social media, they watch the history channel all day and repeat what they hear. They're now part of a community of "enlightened" believers. When in reality they're just being scammed into buying merchandise or "research".

Lol, I love cryptozoology, when I was a kid all I wanted was to make a living looking for cryptids, and giant squids didn't really help that obsession.

So what you're telling me is when my dad left for milk he was really just turning into a bigfoot?

Where are all the Bigfoot bones? I heard a retired forest ranger from British Columbia say that he had never found bear bones. The fact is bones don't last very long, usually because they get eaten by mice and other little creatures. Not saying Bigfoot exists, just that not finding bones doesn't man anything.

@@glenc661 I'd still be worried the body would float or wash up somewhere populated. I'd take the time to bury them. And I mean deep, not just where a coyote could dig it up and a hunter discover a skull (apparently coyotes tend to bite at the neck and pop heads of dead migrants off and run away with them for a quick meal.) If you get tired digging the hole, think about how long you'll be sitting in prison regretting your laziness. As long as the recently disturbed ground remains unnoticed in whatever remote area you choose. I wonder how many missing people were just buried remotely; in true crime shows murder victims are discovered a shallow or nonexistent grave. My friend used to deal weed and once we found multiple partial sets of human teeth stuffed inside the bricks of pot. I wonder if they were the only remains left if you disposed of a body on a pig farm or dissolved it in acid Breaking Bad style. Maybe some cartel member got creative?

A scientist set up an experiment of how long a dead deer would last, it was days. I live in the rural Northwest, spent my whole life in the woods and I have never scene remains of a cougar, bobcat, lynx, wolf, or bear.

If bones are not eaten by animals or bugs they will be buried by natural erosion and leaves etc in a few years .Throw some fake plastic halloween skeleton bones out in the woods somewhere and come back after 5 years they will be buried .

I once read a story about a hairless red fox that had terrible mange being sighted in an area and called a chupacabra by locals. Someone caught it and it was identified as a fox and treated for the terrible skin condition. So the chupacabra thing being a canid with mange is definitely plausible.

@@lexzetusko Actually, in both cases, it wasn't blasphemy. (We're not talking Athena and Arachne.) With Artemis, she was taking a dip in a pond, and just some random dude shows up and sees her being naked. Three times this happened with three different guys. Two get turned into wildlife, one gets turned into a girl for a few years. (That has an inherent danger called Zeus and Poseidon.) You would have thought that Artemis would have learned by now.

I was driving home one winter night in southern Ontario, Canada. Yes it was snowing and visibility was compromised, but it wasn't a raging snowstorm, just lots of pretty white flakes straight down. I saw an animal coming out of the field on my right and it was tan colored, so I thought "deer" and slowed my car in case it crossed the road. When it hit the road maybe 6 meters in front of my car it was about the size of a golden retriever and moved just like a cat with a long solid tail. It disappeared into a stand of trees on the opposite side of the road and never looked my way. I sat there for a minute thinking that wasn't a deer or a dog. I think it was a cougar, but they are no longer supposed to reside in southern Canada. I guess this one never got the memo.

They recently found snow leopards travel long distances between mountain chains. Perhaps cougars sometimes travel too.

Werefoot is a pretty dope band tbh, I checked them out after you mentioned them because that's a damn good band name and I'm impressed so far. Sort of a mix of southern metal and stoner rock, they're a really talented bunch. Doesn't seem like they ever really got off the ground since they only have two demos on their Soundclound and everything on KZread is low quality live recordings, but they ain't bad.

The latest thinking about the Loch Ness monster is that it's a giant eel. There are eels in the lake and eels can continue to grow indefinitely.

Coming from a country whose flag has a literal Dragon on it (Cymru am byth!) I love the idea that some cryptids are maybe, perhaps, kinda real… as others have said here, there are many creatures alive today who would have blown our minds hundreds of years ago. And so much of our planet is yet unexplored that I have a hard time believing there aren’t any mysteries left… Also, love your Werefoot movie idea 😂

The chupacabras is waaaay older. My grandfather always talks about this one time he saw one when he was a teenager here in Chile. This was in the 60´s.

Unicorns are pointy horses. They don't have one corn though, for some reason, they have one horn. They are magical creatures. The only one we've come across was a refugee from the Land of the Faeries, the Queen's pet. It stank atrociously, and was maddened on reaching the "real" dimension of the Disc to find that time - to which it was not ordinarily subject - was passing and that the sky was only blue...and the Queen's unthinking cruelty was no longer in sole command of its head. In short, it was insane - as evidenced by its charging Granny Weatherwax - a thing no mortal creature would ever do. Animals are extremely good at knowing what would be more-than-suicidal. The unicorn was taken by Granny Weatherwax to Jason Ogg's Smithy, where she had him shoe it with silver horseshoes

Hey! I'm from Paraguay! Funny thing about the Ache is that early anthropologists thought they were descendants of the Vikings. That theory was supported by some rare engravings found in the Jasuka Venda archeology site. The engravings were found to be something totally different and the Ache origins still remains a mystery (they are from the Guarani family but their language has some words that aren't Guarani in origin and that proved very hard to trace). A sad fact about the Ache is that they were legally hunted in here, sanctioned by the state in the early days of the expansion not many years ago.

Hey in America they found Irish ogum engravings bt the weird thing is that there's an Irish myth that tells of a monk who set of for a new land with 11 other monks when he returned he described floating pillars of crystal and an island of blacksmiths throwing molten rocks at them now the crystal pillars are icebergs and the island of blacksniths was Iceland and then in the 00s a man sailed from America to Ireland using the route in a traditional Irish dugout

There may be another group of whites who made it to the Americas: part of the Olmecs. They left imagery of blonde-bearded whites along with round-headed West African blacks. I remember when I was a youngin’ back in the mid 90’s, Unsolved Mysteries had an episode about the chupacabra. Scared the crap out of me. I thought it would come into my bedroom at night and drain me dry. Fun times.

This Werefoot idea you have was spectacular! I'd read that book. It was also very funny and wonderfully abrupt when you lead from that into the rest of the video, cold open. I loved it. Great. "Dobharchú", literally "water hound" is an old Irish word for "otter". It's pronounced dower-choo, ch not as hard as a k, but it's a sound English speakers don't use, so I guess koo is close, just say it from the back of your throat. I don't know of any dialect that would pronounce it dubber, but I'm not very familiar with dialects north of Mayo. Dobhar is a very old word for water, still used in Welsh. "Lough" is pronounced lock, although it's got another soft sound at the end not used in English. Lock is the closest you will manage if you're only ever spoken English.

The Nessie species spends most of its life as a juvenile form, which is known as a haggis. There are hundreds of haggi roaming the Scottish Highlands. They are very small and well camouflaged, and they only briefly take the adult form to breed in local lochs. So, it is understandable that sightings are very rare.

Yeah, just one giant Monty Python foot, and it can't move, it just sits there, and the hunter guy is unimpressed, but shoots it anyway, and then the dad foot vows to avenge his son's death and eventually tracks the hunter guy to a place and time just right so that he can jump out of a window and transform into giant dad foot while falling, crushing the hunter guy and killing them both in a what you thought was a comedy but turns out to be a nihilistic Greek tragedy.

@@jeffmathers355 Lions don't purr. None of the big cats do with the exception of the North American cougar or Mountain lion, and it's a different genus from the other big cats.

Your screenplay is basically the premise of the Goosebumps story "The girl who cried monster" lol

Your movie idea sounds like a great movie man! Although, I thought it was gonna go a different direction. I was imagining the hunter guy was gonna show up for the hunt, the kid was gonna transform, and the hunter dude was gonna end up killing the kid while he was in Bigfoot form, and the mount the Bigfoot head. Then the Bigfoot head turns back into the kid's head after its mounted (don't ask me why it took so long to revert... Hollywood...) and now the dude wakes up one morning to find a kid's head stuffed and mounted on his living room wall. He screams, the wife wakes up and sees it, they pukes and she cries and calls 911, and he realizes he can't _possibly_ convince the cops of what actually happened, so he goes on the lam and now the movie is a procedural crime drama about catching a psychopath who was actually just a decent guy who made an honest mistake. I guess you could say I had some assumptions, but honestly I think it'd be a pretty good movie either way, right? Lol.

Also, Bigfoot are sighted in many other states with vast woodlands. They can probably meet up to mate rather easily since walking cross country to them wouldn't be too difficult.

@Paul I rendered it in English phonetic lettering, thus the quotation marks. Even if I hadn't seen it spelled countless times before, as I assume most people have, the proper spelling is used in the comment thread. And since my own comment was questioning how anyone could make such a mistake given the amount of coverage the topic enjoys, perhaps you coild have realized that without my needing to explain it to you. A little thought can be a wonderful thing. And, if you would notice, 'loch' is the Anglicized spelling of 'lough', so you were actually more guilty of misspelling than I in correcting my "mistake".

Bigfoot hunter comes to the PNW to look for bigfoot, comes across something that looks like Sasquatch coming out of a sauna, pulls out his shotgun, the apparent Sasquatches pull out their guns, kinkovs, mini-tavors, etc. Hail of gunfire. Sasquatch hunter did not find real sasquatch, he found the Ukrainian Mafia. :D

That's true for most things but how do you explain dragons? They've come up many times in varying cultures yet the biggest reptile in the world (the komodo dragon I believe) only exists in one place in the world. Unless in each civilization someone got high and imagined a scaly bird

This movie idea is so 1980s. It's got an innocence to it that movies these days don't have anymore. Well, except for Pixar.

Regarding the loch ness monster, that loch is actually a rift lake, so it's ridiculously deep. In fact, it's deeper than the Loch Linnhe or Moray Firth which are bays of the Atlantic Ocean and North Sea that lie along the same fault. Anyway, it's possible that the legends may be based on a rare sleeper shark species in the lake. That would explain how long-lived the legend is in spite of our inability to find whatever animal it's based on.

I love the thought that the platypus is a monster. I see them regularly while fishing. They're tiny, well small. The word monster just doesn't fit in any way, shape, or form.

when i was a kid i was racing to the school bus when a huge moth passed me and landed/collapsed onto a bush. i lived in NW California and the moth was as big as a Softball or larger. Truly magnificent size, probably a mountain moth of some sort but for many many years i doubted my own eyes. Recently i have seen enough large moths in the USA to convince myself it was a real thing. It was bigger than a bird. brown colours, like maybe a pepper moth

Grew up in the countryside, can confirm. Woods at night are VERY dark, and full of eerie sounds and things half-glimpsed.

Would enjoy watching a movie with a script you wrote, would probably be a quality picture

The emphasis should be on the emotional conflict and what it means to behuman (and ultimately bigfoot being more human than the hunter), less on flashy action. It should be a drama. Directed by Denis Villneuve..

if you make this movie id love to do the photography/ advertisement! this idea had me laughing, all the way to, concerned for the characters.... story has a familiar feel but some real room for originality. could be darkly hilarious. GREAT IDEA!

I'm legit interested in how she told it because down her in SoCal I've heard it from lots of folks in many different descriptions. I distinctly recall a grandmother talking about it as a reptile in like 1993 way before Species was released.

Your brain can apply the feeling of reality to imagination. This often happens in child brains, which is why you probably have a memory of seeing something that you know never existed. I remember being put to bed and seeing a classic green and warty witch nose peeking out from the bathroom door. Not real, but completely cemented in my brain. What people think they see and what’s real are not equal. And with all the entertainment showing ghosts and monsters, it lays the foundation for people to ‘see’ something.

I witnessed ball lightning when I was 11. There was a storm. I was upstairs sitting on my bed next to a window. The window had a lamp with no shade on it. The ball lightning came through a window on the other side passed in front of my face and out the window next to me blowing the light bulb in the lamp on its way out.

Loch is how the word lake is pronounced in Scottish. Loch = lake, kirk = church, etc...

@@jannahkillinger Hi, Im Scottish, I live in Scotland, Loch is a Gaelic word for an inland body of water, where as a lake is a body of water surrounded by land, theres alot of crossover there but you cant have a sea lake & there are plenty of sea lochs. Kirk is the Scots (language) word for a meeting place which became synonymous with a church. Neither word is just how we pronounce things theyre not words from the English language.

I swear my bank account had another zero at the end... Nobody believes me though.

When I was 17 I saw an all black unicorn standing just outside the fenced off area of a horse ranch. its horn was about a foot long and was muddy tan. We were about 50 yards from it on the passing road and stopped to look but had to keep moving because traffic had started to build up behind us. could have been a fancy costume or something but i will never forget it. 🦄
