Today we’re making 5 scotch cocktails that are so good! After last week’s video breaking down scotch’s various styles and regions, I wanted to mix some of the whiskies we covered into cocktails. For each drink, I’m using a different scotch to showcase the flavors and strengths of each bottle. Of course, these recipes will work with a number of different whiskies - so don’t panic if your selection differs from mine. Hope you enjoy the lineup! Cheers!

Just found your channel and really love it. I was literally going to make an affinity when I found this. Probably in the top 5
Use Laphroaig for every recipe. Every time. Aviation? Swap in Laphroaig. LI Ice Tea? Laphroaig ups the verve for your guests. Too much? Take it down a notch and relax with a nice smooth Laphroaig daiquiri.

It kind of reminded me of the old song "I'm my own grandpa" but in this case "I'm my own bartender" 😂
Love your approach to cocktails Anders. No gimmicks just good balanced drinks. Always a pleasure to watch.
The two scotch drinks that got me to change my mind and actually like scotch are a Rusty Nail and Godfather. Simple and different kinds of sweet.
i especially love how (lately?) you've been adding in your own creations. I love all the classics, and i'm still learning about them, but hearing directly from you about your own creations is somehow even better.
🤘I believe the combination ginger + punchy scotch is marvelous. It works in so many ways.

Nice twist with fresh ginger. Homemade ginger syrup is great, but usually it gets spoiled before I manage to consume it...
Az taking the photos at the end with Anders dancing around impatiently is such a mood 😂
The Pencillin is close to a perfect cocktail, its just amazing. It makes me happy to see you mixing in the Peated SCotch instead of topping it - I do the same, its much better. When you top you just an overwhelming sip of the peat in the beginning and then it goes away completely. I've always used a ginger syrup though so I might have to try it with the fresh Ginger, that looks good.

Did you try the fresh ginger? I have both honey syrup and ginger syrup, so was thinking of adding half and half.
@dennismonk9559

@@ljdelgado no not yet. I use Liber and Co ginger syrup, which is a great syrup (all their syrups are). Then just mix honey and water for the honey syrup (usually about 3:1 honey to water)
Blood and Sand? Thanks for the cocktails and entertainment! You are appreciated!
I have this weird notion that Scotch, and peated Scotch in particular, makes more sense in Tiki-style drinks than most people think. Scotch has the complexity and intensity to play with the strong flavors of the Tiki world, and combining smoke and fruit can be a lot of fun. I even invented a Scotch-based Tiki drink roughly based on Jim Kearns' Monkey Man, called the Sophisticated Ape: 1 ounce peated Scotch whiskey (looking more for smoke than island brine here) 1 ounce dark/black rum 1/2 ounce Tempus Fugit Creme de Banane 1/4 ounce vanilla syrup (2:1 ratio) 1/2 ounce cinnamon syrup (2:1 ratio) 1 ounce pineapple juice 3/4 ounce lime juice 2 dashes Tiki bitters Shake with ice, strain into an appropriate glass, garnish however you feel like. I go back and forth on glass selection and whether it should be served up or over ice.
I love how the dog looked at you like….. excuse me you are the co star lol

I always enjoy your videos. Thank you.
Anders, thank you for this video! Honestly I did not realize how versatile scotch could be for cocktails!😊 awesome video!
TO THE BAR!➡️🥃
Those all sound delicious!
Hey! Great video. I just wanted to drop in and say we tried the Tartan last night as you made it, but then we made it again, adding a small amount of an Islay (Talisker) to add some smoke and depth. I think it elevated the cocktail even more! For anyone who loves a richly peated scotch like I do, it works very well as an addition to the drink. We did not swap scotch, we still used a blended, and added the Islay as a layer. Thank you for doing a video for us scotch lovers!
Anders you're a blessing to all the frugal introverts. KZread's bartender.
I like to infuse Dewars with some Sheng Pu'er tea leaves for a week so it gets quite bitter, then dilute that with Famous Grouse. Afterwards, you have this very smooth blended scotch with a significant bitter bite to it that lends itself perfectly to a whiskey sour.
Sipping Tartan cocktail and enjoying Friday night charm. Good work Anders! This one's a keeper! 👍
I'm so excited to try whisky drinks. Never have. I'ma start with Rusty Nail.
I just made a Bobby Burns last night! Was so good! I did a riff on it with a 1/4oz Benedictine and 1/4oz drambuie with a fernet rinse.
You sir, continue to rock. Cheers!
Just opened a bottle of Monkey Shoulder as well, not to mention Scotland v England in the rugby this weekend 🥃🏉👍
Keep doin' what you want. We love it, and that's how you keep the world interesting.
I just received a bottle of Scotch and was searching for some cocktails. Love your videos!

You’re the first one I’ve seen making the Penicillin with muddled ginger and honey syrup. This is also my preferred way. It has more of a ginger kick and you can just use your honey syrup.
I totally should have seen this episode coming. I'm happy to report it was yet another happy surprise.
Thanks to you and a previous episode I have fallen in love with the Bobby Burns, like, Though it were ten thousand mile, in love!
I didn't notice the jazz until the last cocktail. Pairs beautifully with the vibe of the cocktail(s).
Don’t know if it’s been said before but, my compliments to you and Oz (apologies for misspelling) and the great camera work. This is such a well shot channel and a pleasure to watch.
I liked this before I watched! Thank you! Throwing a cocktail party for my birthday next week I will certainly be trying the Affinity!

I just made one with Glenlivet 12 and Averno -- very nice!
wow! this is a perfect follow up to last week... i really want to try youre Original cocktail... and the Pencillin for sure
I need to try all of these. Already a penicillin lover
The Penicillin is legendary!
I've made the Tartan many times and it is a winner. I really need to try the others in this video next.
I'm trying to expand from my beloved Bourbon into the realm of Scotch, and I think this might just be the trick! Thanks Anders!
awwww so cute !!!! 🐶❤
Going to have to go get some scotch soon now. Currently extending my Mardis Gras celebration and making New Orleans based cocktails
The best spirit there is.
I love the penicillin! something i find entertaining from your explanation is the quote I've seen somewhere on how there's 2 professions where you can't betray your customers, a doctor (or anything medical), and a bartender. Maybe I'm just a bit sentimental with the occupation, but I can't find any fault with that quote
That last scotch video was awesome! Such a great lesson! I wonder if a bourbon video is going to be a thing!? Haha. Great video as always! 😊
Anders!! I love, love, love these delicious cocktails!! The only one I haven't had is the Morning Glory Fizz and I absolutely want to make that beauty! I love the Tartan, the Affinity, the Bobby Burns and the Penicillin so much!! The Talisker was such a wonderful scotch for the Affinity. It's a favourite scotch! How can you go wrong with any of these, right?! Love the Laphroaig in the Penicillin! I go back and forth to adding right in when preparing the cocktail or floating it in on top! I have to add that the Rusty Nail is a huge favourite too along with Drambuie! Sooo delicious!! The Tartan is always a joy to have!! Have an awesome weekend!! I like your choice of scotch! Cheers!!
Excited to try some of these. Only just started scotch cocktails with a sentimental gentleman using aberfeldy as my base. Never thought I could enjoy scotch but as I go down this path, hopefully one day I can enjoy some smoky Islays
The best penicillin ive ever had was garnished with the candy gingers but also a plastic syringe of a peaty scotch so you could squeeze however much you like right onto the top.
As a bourbon and scotch lover bourbon cocktails are easy but I’m always lost when it comes to scotch cocktails. This video is exactly what I needed. Also your doggo looks like a good boy.
I love the Viski ice-hammer for just $29.99, which is of course absolutely much better than the exact same hammer you get in hardware stores for $12.99
I love the Fizz
I love the Penicillin, always try and get one when it seems like a bar has a good ingredients list
I love your dog! ... Oh, and your videos are great too.
I can't believe you didn't mention the utterly delightfully scotchy (and very approachable if you like whisky but aren't a typical scotch-head) and SUPER EASY Rusty Nail. Just Scotch (usually a decent blend, but any decent sipping scotch will do) and drambue. Stirred cocktail at about 1:1 scotch to drambue ratio (adjust individual recipe to preference). Serve over 1 large ice cube in rocks glass. Can even be built in glass and stirred with the large ice cube and bar spoon. Easiest drink EVER besides any of the mules.
Also love your videos and make these for my mom all the time

@@AndersErickson thanks,
Great video to follow up from last week. Now I have a problem as most of my bar has switched to Bourbon and Rye😂.
Thanks Anders; thoroughly enjoy the channel and will definitely try these this weekend and next. My go to single malt for 30 years is Glenmorangie, though all the bottles you highlighted here and in the previous video are all excellent. My favorite blend is Chivas 18. For the Affinity cocktail you made, where can we get that way cool stemmed glass? I did not see it at Viski though I did by the Raye angled Nick and Nora glasses from Viski based on your recommendation. Keep on being great!
The penicillin is one of my go to drinks I love the smoky ness from the laphroaig I will have to try your recipe. You got me into trying bartending at home
I’ve only made tne Bobby Burns and I love it. I find that the Compass Box Orchard House Blend malt whisky is the best for the drink to me.
I want to try every one of these
I appreciate this channel! Can’t wait to make a Tartan. Going to try with MonkeyShoulder.
Penicillin is easily my favorite cocktail. Muddling the fresh ginger definitely adds to the experience, but I go with the ginger syrup if I’m making for a crowd.
I'm introducing my wife to Scotch, and she liked the Bobby Burns. Now I need to try that Tartan. That looks delicious.
Just made a Tartan so good!
I love the penicillin 👌🏻. I make mine more (or less) like a Gold Rush with ginger 😍. Also using/mixing equal parts of a smoother whisk(e)y and and a really smokey one 🥃
Love the video. Cannot wait to try Affinity. From that segment, could I basically substitute dry with blanc vermouth?
Your Tartan, Bobby Burns and Penicillin already some of my all time favs; have to go now for the Affinity! Talisker is already at hand 😆 yu are absolutely right, missing out this cocktails because being to "conservative" with Scotch would be a shame!
Will most certainly try these! I love single malts on their own, try this: Pour your single malt of choice and add one drop(!) of pure spring water. How this works I know not, but it releases a multitude of flavours.
The dog was the only reason I didn't skip the ad. So cute!
Hey Anders Long time subscriber. Loving the point and stare down during the “ To The Bar” intro. Also, have Az and you finally tied the knot? My wife and I are going to Chicago this summer for a mini vacation, any recommendations for must see bars other than the violet hour? Thanks for your work guys, I’ve learned so much watching your channel over the years Salud, Javier
The penicillin is one of the best cocktails period. Even people who “don’t like scotch” might find their way to enjoying them.
Can't wait
Hi Anders….never disappointed-your cocktail presentation is spot on!👌👌👌I am happy to be stuck between the Affinity cocktail and Bobby Burns!!…thanks for another fun video!😁😁 Have a great weekend and as always “CHEERS!”🥃🍸 ❤️❤️

Thanks much! Enjoy your weekend with some tasty drinks. Cheers
Tried Bobby Burns with plus 1 dash of ango and 1 dash of peychaud's... It is so goood!
Just made your Tartan. Good job! That’s a keeper. I used Monkey Shoulder, but otherwise followed your recommendations.
I learned to appreciate Scotch from a college friend, who would order a Perfect Rob Roy if he'd gotten a check from his dad recently. If not, he'd buy a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20.
Sam Ross is a genius. I’ve yet to have a drink of his that disappointed. Thanks for these!
Please do Japanese whiskies soon. It's a whole new whisky world.
Tartan Cocktail sound like my type of flavor profile. I'm going to give that a shot soon. Negroni and Boulevardier are my go-to cocktails at home due to flavor and simplicity but I've been looking to add some more variety.
Recently I've been shaking up a smokey rye sour: 1/2 oz maple syrup 1/2 oz orange juice 1 oz lemon juice 1/2 oz Laphroaig 1 1/2 oz Rare Breed rye I'll have to try some of these others.
Great video Anders! Was hoping you could maybe link where you purchased the 2 different coupe style glasses you used in this video? Thank you 🙏🏼
The first one is like a good rainy afternoon in the evil eye cocktail bar in york in england. Good times. I watched your video on scotch you have a good selection of my husband's favorites that I can't pronounce lol but my favourite is coal ila I love a peaty taste west coast but can't imagine putting it in a cocktail just straight and we only ever have one ice cube
You left out my favorite - Blood and Sand. Also love Cameron‘s Kick, but you did an excellent separate video for that. Also, of course you could’ve included Rusty Nail, but maybe you’ve got a video for that I’m not sure.
Old fashioned and Penicillin are my absolute go-tos. But many bars don't have the ginger to make a penicillin unfortunately
I’m glad you didn’t make a Northsea Lineman because this variation on the Red Hook deserves its own video.
One of my favorite is "Boulevardier", but, instead of bourbon in original recipe i like to use mix of Scotch (like in penicillin). Recommend to try
I usually skip through the sponsor portion, but you got me with the doggo this time. You're going places in the marketing department, Anders.
I use Monkey Shoulder in my penicillin too. I make a homemade honey ginger syrup and keep it in the fridge ready to go. One of my all times favorites!
I’ve only ever made the Penicillin with homemade honey-ginger syrup… as a Scotch lover, it’s been a favourite for a long time (I make mine with Laphroaig Quarter Cask). It never occurred to me, when I didn’t have syrup in the fridge, that I could use this method you demonstrated. Duh! Thanks Anders. 😊
Here's my favorite scotch cocktail...I learned of this at Jock Lindsey's in Disney Springs: Scottish Professor * 3/4oz Monkey Shoulder Blended Scotch * 3/4oz The Botanist Gin * 2oz Pear Nectar * 1/2 Simple Syrup * 1/4 Lemon Juice Shake with crushed ice and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a lemon wheel.
There's a version of the Mamie Taylor I like to use as a Scotch-based summer long drink. Put 1-1/2oz of a blended Scotch(Pig's Nose is my go-to) and 1/2oz of an Islay single malt(Laphroaig Cask Strength for me) over ice in a highball glass. Give it 1/2oz of lemon(or lime, if that's what you got) juice, and top it up with a very strong ginger ale(Canada Dry/Schweppes isn't gonna cut it here; buy a craft soda). Garnish as you see fit; I use a lemon wheel and a long strand of lime peel.
I’ve always been hesitant to use single malts in cocktails because I do love to sip them slowly on cold wet day or after a crazy AF day.
Anders you trailblazer. "I do what I want". Cheers
A 1/2 oz of Laphroaig in most whisky drinks, but especially Whisky sours or old fashioneds is so good.
