How did he REPEATEDLY get access to the keys w/o a license to be making long distance interstate journeys, in this case after midnight, on a seemingly regular basis ?! God rest their souls but the mind boggles at the particulars of this story !

His mom, older brother & I told him to stop driving, that he could get caught & charged with driving without a license!? Words without action. Those "talks"were a waste of time. Now look at the consequences!

Youngest age 7. Survivor age 9. At 12:20 AM . The middle of the night??!!! CT & NY is not a short side street drive. Not only this tragic accident happened but the kid could have killed so many others. Very sad but those parents are 100% responsible.

I don't understand why a 16 year old teenager is driving at 12.00 am in the morning with little kids as passengers in a car.

I was driving when I was 11 years old. I would drive one grandmother to physical therapy and the other to for shopping and other chores.

Terrible parents. People that have no business being parents. That's right, I'm gonna say it. If you allow your young minor children to hang out all hours of the night unaccompanied by a responsible adult, you are a terrible parent. Not like people that allow this to happen care about that anyway.

The father knew his son was driving without a license and had a responsibility to deny him access to the keys. He may be facing charges.

The father should be held accountable for not stopping his son.

There's a lot more to this story that is not being told. If there was a 17 y/o in the car why was the 16 y/o driving? Why was the survivor in the trunk of the car? Dad doesn't sound like he's "grieving". At all. He's busy blaming the dead driver. "I told him. His mother told him". What?? And at midnight? From NY to CT to NY again? Nope, we're not being told the whole story.

The 17 year old knew better than to drive. Unfortunately he didn't know enough to tell the others not to get into the car.

Such a devastating accident. Rest in peace. I hope all 5 children can recover from their injuries.

What steps were taken to prevent the kid from getting the keys and continue BREAKING THE LAW?🤔

The dad said he did it all the time there is no way from two states and 4 highways in between Brooklyn and CT that they can just chill at the mall. I’m wondering what the 9 year old was doing in the trunk

What parent would allow a 16 year old to drive on a NY highway in the middle of the night with a carful of young kids?

The parents knew he was driving but couldn't stop it? Or wouldn't stop it? And whose car was he driving? Charge the parents. Makes no damn sense.

So what adult let him do it then???? Bcz that same adult also let the other kids go with him and he's a non driver Where's the adult supervision for all five of those kids aged 9 to 17????? He lives in Brooklyn NY the kids live in CT that’s over a hour and half distance on any highway and one kid was riding in the trunk the parents need to be accountable for all the children and that family now has to have a mass funeral they lost 5 children that family is going to be fighting and crying for years to come so sad

I just can't hear anymore excuses or stupidity from parents about how they're not parenting, no supervision, & kids are easily getting guns & car keys to go out & killpeople. Charge & convict this father & mother, whoever's car it was.... and everyone everywhere who gives their kids the means to go out & kill people. Wonder if/what the cousins' parents knew as well & allowed it? With this unlicensed 16 yr old baby? Absolutely unbelievable, horrible💔💔💔💔💔

Sad situation, the parents have alot of explaining to do and may be bought up on charges because this is so irresponsible on their part. They definitely knew he was driving, allowed it and allowed the other children to go.....smh...

He knew the kid had been driving. His Mom, his brothers, and the Dad just “told him he has to stop driving without a license”. How about consequences for doing so???? Clearly he has been doing it before this accident. Absolutely these parents need to be charged! Kid still had access to the keys.

It was a Nissan Rogue, an SUV. It must have been the rear cargo compartment, not a trunk found in a sedan.

That 16 year old should have never been driving, period. The father sounds like the 16 year old ruled over him. How are you going to tell a child to stop doing anything and yet his other siblings are in the vehicle with him driving back and forth. If they told him, evidently he did not listen and where was discipline from either one of them. They both sounds like irresponsible parents who do not care or know what their kids are doing. How and where did he get the car? How are they not aware that the other kids were missing?

I just heard a news report saying it was a rental car. There's going to be some backlash on this one!

The parents need to face charges.

Thank goodness he didn't kill any innocent people on the road. Hopefully, the family will always bring up how bad choices cause such deadly results. Hard and tough lesson to have happen in life. But this is why responsibility and being legal matters.

The children were from 3 different nuclear families.

The parents of the 16 year old driver should go to prison for being so clueless and nonchalaunt about their son not having a license and driving their car multiple times without their permission, as was reported elsewhere....🙄

Also, considering all of those kids were in that car with him that late at night further makes me believe that was not the first time/a one time thing. I feel all the parents are equally at fault and failed their children bc why in the complete hell would a carload of underage kids be out and about driving anywhere in the a.m. hours of the night like that🙄?! All the parents need to be held accountable bc this entire situation is as ridiculous as it is sad imo…and didn’t have to happen‼️
