My problem with most the catfish victims is their main priority is finding an attractive partner while not being as attractive as the people they’re pursuing. You are familiar with the dating site stats ? 80% of the women go for the top 20% of the guys completely ignoring the other 80% of "decent / average / below average men" While Guys are willing to go for 80% of the women from the pretty ones to the way below average ones. There is a very large pool of attention starved men while women have it relatively easy to hook up. I can't blame any guy for taking a shot at someone who gives them attention it's a shame women are abusing this for financial gain.
