I'll ALWAYS go with one that has the little arm supports on the bottom to hold your phone up even more than just the clamps on the sides of the phone. The arms one the one I bought are long enough to support by Galaxy Note 9 with a not super bulky case and a credit card holder with both my bank card and ID.

I then read something where you clean/rinse it off, air dry, and then HEAT it up with like a lighter/hair dryer to make the sticky agent sticky again. Right after heating it up, throw it back on right away and hold it. That ended up working flawlessly!

Another great tape is "Gorilla Tape". If you put a strip on your back, I swear you could mount yourself to the side of the Eiffel Tower and hang there for at least 20 years LOL --- Very powerful and doesn't leave marks when removed. I have struggled for so long to find a good phone mount for my Firebird. Definitely wouldn't have ever gotten the cup holder... agree with others that it's dangerous but also I only have 1 cup holder in front. However, they do have the cup holders you can hang on the side of your window but you'd hit it over and over again and knock it down, etc. The clam shell would be fine if 1) you place it where you want it for the duration of the time you have your vehicle and hoping it does stay in tact that long but also because you can use the gorilla tape to reattach if needed. However, I don't like my phone turned sideways when using my GPS which is the reason we obviously need the phone mount in the first place. I think I am going to try the suction cup also and probably play around with where to put it where it's least distracting from the road. That has been my biggest fear just as hanging things from my mirror that are "too big" or swing around causing distraction. I appreciate your video so much and have found it quite helpful and ready to find the suction cup today hopefully! Have Safe travels and many Blessings Everyone!

I went from the vent holder, which worked well in my old crv, to a suction cup one in my new crv. They sell little discs that you stick to your dash, then attach the suction cup thing onto the disc. It holds it on great, especially if you have a more textured dash. Both cold and hot sucks (huh huh huh) for suction cup mounts. My dash cam was previously affixed with suction cup mount, but have since moved to gorilla tape and a 3d printed mount. Four years and counting, hasn't fallen off yet. Meanwhile... the Logitech +Drive magnetic mount, which still attaches to the windshield using a suction cup.... falls off every time it gets hot, OR cold. Grr.. About to gorilla tape that shit to the windshield too.

As far as the one that was Stuck to the Dashboard originally, I am not surprised that it didn't stick after being removed. That type of Adhesive isn't meant for multiple uses.

The clam one will be the only one that works with that. Also depending on what size your phone is it wont work. With the retractable ones. Per say a the big iphone or the galaxy note series will not work with a thick case. And them pop rings will not let them be sturdy enough. You are asking him to risk all his phones breaking for your test request if you want something. Best thing that I can tell you is just get the cup holder one or the clam maybe one of those will work.

They make holders specifically for pop sockets and ring holders (check on Amazon). I had a cd-slot pop socket holder back in the day. Only reason I stopped using it is because I got a new phone case that the pop sockets refused to adhere to, no fault with the holder. Decided I'm done messing with glues and suction cups, and switch to a magnetic mount (metal plate hides nicely under the phone case, and the tiny magnet mount barely blocks the air vent). I think the magnetic mounts work with ring holders too (if they're metal, of course).

Like you mentioned about the vent mounted holder at the very end of the video: in the winter, when you have to turn on the heat to stay alive while driving, your phone has the risk of overheating because the hot air from the vent is pushing right on the phone. This problem may be inherent to my vehicle (or type of vehicle) and where I decided to place my vent mount. I have a 2018 RAV4, and I chose to mount on the left vent on the driver side. This vent does not turn off even if you change the output of the air. You have to literally close the vents to close the airflow. When you close the vents, there’s nowhere to place the mount. If I place the mount on one of the center vents, my phone will block the entire infotainment system. I can’t wait to buy the clamshell mount (so long as I place it and never remove it). Thank you for the work you do. So far, your reviews have saved me hundreds of dollars.

My best solution has been using a tripod mount for a phone (threaded thumbscrew to tighten it in) on a go-pro sticky mount with 3-axis rotation. Costs about $15 to make and it's solid as a rock. Does require two hands to put it in there though (I just put it in when I get in the car or at a stop light if I forget.)

  • @lexic6081

cat W the magnetic mount will only work if there’s a thin piece of metal either attached to your phone, the inside of your case or the outside of your case if your case is too thick. The plate usually comes with the mount that you adhere with little stickies. I’ve not experienced any issues with my phone using the magnetic mount in my car and the phone with the little metal plate does nothing in your purse or pocket.
