I started learning how to play the piano while in a nursing home as my own therapy for my hand issues, I liked learning the piano now a few years later I’m playing piano in a Sunday class that occurs every other Sunday. Even asked people to sing gospel as I play the piano. I’d like to learn these patterns

Hi 👋 I really appreciate this free lesson of yours, firstly for myself. I'm 61 yrs old and took piano in the public school piano classes from 2nd - 8th grades. But I'm not one of those people who quit and says they wish they'd never done that. I've always still played whenever, and wherever I could when seeing a piano while out and about so it could help me remember things. And now as an adult, in 2013 I was finally able to buy myself an acoustic piano which I still have, at the time, a used 20 yr old, 1 owner, Ivory Yamaha console I found at a piano store in Dallas, which sounds better than any console I've ever heard. Anyway, I'm drifting off the main point here. To this day, I am still at about the same intermediate level with classical piano music playing. And I'm mild-miderately dyslexic so I've always played mostly by ear. I've always wanted to learn to play more in a conventional style of music, so basic lessons like yours here really helps with that. Secondarily, I work for a really great lady, who is raising her two granddaughters, 5 & 7 yrs old, who are both taking private piano lessons. And she has been asking me to help them learn too, which is so wonderful to me to be able to do. So your basic tecnique lesson videos like this are very helpful for that too. If you happen to have the time, if you have any extra suggestions for both myself and helping my little niece figures with the piano more, I'd greatly appreciate it, mam. Btw, I like how in the video you speed it up through certain parts. That's good for the short attention spans of kids and folks with ADD like myself. God bless, and thanks again 🙏 You can see a video here on my FB page of me playing that I posted the other day for the heck of it. facebook.com/larry.crenshaw1 : > )

In simple terms , the rules states that the root notes serves as the starting point, the third notes determines whether the chords is a major or minor, and the fifth notes adds stability and support to the chord's structure.

I'm only beginning the process of thinking about learning to play the piano. you asked in the video about the reason that I would want to learn to play the piano whether it's church or some other reason. The truth is I doubt if there is one person in the world that has the reason that I would want to play and learned the piano. I actually think people would think I'm crazy for the most part if I were to tell you why I would want to learn. I've never owned a piano and never really had a desire to play it. I watched your introduction video yesterday for about 45 minutes. Don't have any experience on the piano other than when I was a kid, my father and brother were learning the piano and I just couldn't grasp it. However, that was 50 years ago. Though I'm almost 62 years old and thinking about retiring in the next few months for I might get involved in learning the piano. Though I am extremely busy and have two houses to take care of that need a lot of work, but when I retire, I can get a lot done fast. But I do have a motivation about why I would want to learn music and learn to play the piano. You see I love the Lord Jesus Christ and have a testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ. I dream of starting a school or perhaps as part of the church in heaven where one plays instruments, sings and dances and shares the testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ. So, all these things that I just mentioned will be ways of glorifying God the way I believe music should be. We are supposed to use our talents to praise the Lord and share our testimony using music, instruments, verbal testimonies, writing our own music and to dance for the Lord and to help others and inspire others through all the media as I just mentioned. So, me learning the piano is to help me become a teacher of these things in heaven one day. Play music in heaven, sing and dance. I want to grow my God given talent and win souls through heart felt music. In my 20's I was a ballroom student and teacher. I have two goals singing and playing instruments. Start with the piano and reading music.

Hi Kaitlyn New subscriber here. So glad that I found your channel, it's really helping me get back into learning he piano. I'm very much the same as many, had piano lessons some years ago , but got fed up with playing from books like " A boy and his piano " etc and having to play to strict rhythm timings etc. I can't believe how quickly I have progressed since following your excellent tuition , both playing and how you explain music theory, just seems to make so much sense to me now. Many Thanks...

Do you have any advice for RH improv over a 7th chord (e.g. G7 in the key of C)? For example, when accompanying a vocalist and the G7 lasts for 1-2 measures. Should I learn penatonic, or diminished scales/runs? Or Barry Harris movements? Any other ideas?

Focus on 88 weighted keys and a sustain pedal. Check out this video for more details: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oIhl06Z8ipXAlc4.htmlsi=7j8AhQM6R_QF8clT

I'd suggest at least getting one with weighted keys before you get too far into it. If you learn on a light touch midi/synth keyboard you'll find it hard to play a real piano.
