Great video, Dan! The number 5 tip was very useful for me. I didn’t even know that this feature existed. I’m utilizing it to quickly toggle between my custom setting for Classic Negative and my Nostalgic Negative setting, my 2 favorite film sims. I also have a bird action setting like yourself. It’s so wonderful to have an expert like yourself to make sense of all the features and applications.

Michael, thanks for your comment and your feedback. Yes, being able to quickly switch between two different shooting presets offers a great deal of efficiency when you're out exploring with the camera. Even swapping between two film sims with this function give you an instant change.

Hi Dan, thanks for the info on the Fuji XT5. Great camera from my understanding. Appreciate your info and knowledge about that camera. Unfortunately, I'm not using Fuji anymore, but I enjoy the Fuji's that I have, which are the XE1 and XE 2. They still take great pictures. I don't do video, so I have other equipment for that. Great video Dan, as usual. In Opposite to what I thought, in the end I chose the X-T5 and I'm delighted with it. I chose the convenience of direct commands to the larger buffer capacity of the X-H series. Obviously your advices is perfect i will follow them.

Hi Dan, really helpful video thank you! Letting you know.. with the X-T5 top dial switched to Movie mode one can save 7 completely new Custom Presets that are unrelated to those in Stills mode. I've been experimenting with home-brewed movie presets aiming for an old Super 8 Kodachrome look, also Bleach Bypass, Eterna, Classic Chrome presets and so on.. and they don't interfere or overwrite my Stills custom presets.

Thanks for your comment. Essentially, with the new 5th gen models, the X-T5 and X-H cameras, you have many more settings that you can save when you create a C1-7 Custom Setting. And with the "Recall C1" Fn Setting, you can instantly recall your C1 setting with a single button press. So, for example, let's say you create a custom setting in the C1 slot that has Zone AF mode, a favorite film sim, maybe ACROS, or Nostalgic Neg, and Subject Detect AF Birds, AF-C Custom Settings #2 (Ignore Obstacles) and Shade White Balance. Then, maybe you're out shooting a variety of subjects, but you suddenly see a scene where you want to use that C1 configuration, you could instantly recall it with a single button press. Does that make sense?

Hey there... you're right. My clarification for this is that the actual function of Wrap Focus Point appears on all current, and some previous models, including X-T2/3/4 and X-H2/S, but the menu item that allows you to turn it on or off is currently only found on the X-T5. So, if you DON'T want the X-T5 to wrap, say if you're shooting still subjects only, then you have the option to disable it. Still loving your X-T2? What do you like to shoot with it?

@@DanBaileyPhoto Many thanks for the clarification Dan I am making 70% landscape photos with my beloved x-t2 and trying street photography not that easy and once my x-t2 put me in a rather difficult situation while trying to catch my grand daughter on a swing with few good ones You seem delighted with the x-t5 I was expecting the new xt but would have preferred to get the stacked captor from the X-h2s rather a 40 mp even if my main topic is landscape... My PC will not handle the x-t5 files and only my 50-140 belongs to the list of best handled lens neither the 10-24 nor the 18-55...thanks for all your videos that help a lot and have a nice 2023

Yes, I am really pleased with the X-T5, but I was also incredibly pleased by the X-T2, and in fact, shot many of my favorite action and bird images with that camera. Even though it was an earlier gen model, it was, and still is extremely capable. Regarding the X-T5 files, they are definitely bigger, but not astoundingly large, especially the Jpeg files. Most software is now updating to handle the X-T5 images. As for lenses that are not on the "maximum benefit" list, Fuji still states that "Lenses not listed will also allow you to experience the improved resolution performance of the 40MP sensor." Anyway, thanks for the feedback. 🙂

Was thinking of xt4, but with your information I now have my doubts. I dont need 40 MP and that it takes a lot of storage on the computer. Thanks, Michael! Happy new year to you as well. Yes, the IBIS on the X-T5 would definitely increase the stability when using any kind of lens, including prime lenses, and allow you to use slower shutter speeds than you've been used to on your X-T3. What kinds of subjects do you like to shoot?

I have both of your courses, and have enjoyed them greatly. I have the X-H2s and it has Wrap focus point functionality. It seems it is the default mode. I could not find a menu item, but it works just like you described. I have firmware 3.0

Hey Robert, Happy New Year. It's easy to feel that way about any kind of technology. Inevitably, we will always fall behind, because it keeps marching ahead. However, if you're still happy with the photos you get with your current X Series camera, then that's really all that matters. You should never feel that you NEED to rush out and get the latest model, UNLESS your current camera isn't allowing you to get the kinds of photos you want, and even then, you have to analyze whether that's because your gear isn't good enough, or if you simply need more practice. In most cases, even with older cameras, like the X-T2, you still have a very capable camera, and with improved technique and efficiency, you can still get outstanding results. Many of my best and most favorite action and bird photos were shot with the X-T2, so it's definitely capable.

My Sony a9 has that recall function. Very useful. I can even program 3 function buttons with different recalls.

Pierre, the recall function is useful indeed. Just curious, why would you not use the dial to select your custom banks and save your Fn buttons for quick access to other settings? You have a 1-3 setting on the top mode dial, right?

Instantaneous as opposed to lowering the camera to see what you're doing, unlocking the top dial and rotating it !

Thanks for your awesome presentation on the recall c1 button that I wasn't aware of before. I plan to purchase either the x-t5 or x-h2, mainly for IBIS and better AF, as I presently have the x-t3 and do mostly stills but still a reasonable amount of video. I like the 7 custom program settings on the dial that the x-h2 has so I can include some different settings for video. I see that unlike the x-t3, the x-t5's Q menu has one for video if you turn the dial to video. How many custom profiles will it allow you? I know there are 7 for still but is it only 1 or more than one for video? Surprisingly, Fuji's online manual I looked up doesn't say and I can't even tell if you can set fps or shutter speed on it. I appreciate your work. Thank you.

Richard, thanks for your comment. Testing this out on my X-T5, it looks like you have 7 custom slots for still, and 7 slots for movie, which are activated when the shooting dial is set to MOVIE. On these new 5th Gen models, you have many more shooting options and settings that you can save into your custom settings, but you cant't set things like shutter speed and fps, although you can save things like frame rate for movie shooting. You're limited to most of the settings in your IQ, AF and SHOOTING SETTINGS menus. Hope that helps. What kinds of subjects do you like to shoot?

yea I am selling my S20 and loved the top dial had C1,C2 and C3 to store settings....T5 has only one button for C1....I had C1 for aperture shoots, C2 for alll Sport settting and C3 Black and white T5 needs this too....bought a T5 yesterday

Thanks for your comment, congratulations on your new X-T5! Yes, since the X-T cameras don't have the C1-7 on a dial, it's not quite as fast to access them. However, with the touchscreen Q Menu and the RECALL C1 SETTING Fn button option, it's still pretty fast. What kinds of subjects do you like to shoot?

Hi AnneMarie, thanks for your comment. Photographing flying birds is indeed very challenging. On my X-T5, I usually keep the camera set to AF-C, with Zone AF mode, or WIDE AF, enabling Subject Detection AF --> Birds, and setting the camera to Continuous High shooting mode. I also tend to use PRE-SHOT ES for subjects like this. Then it's just a matter of practice and shooting lots of frames! I actually have a comprehensive Fujifilm autofocus course where I cover the entire X Series AF system, and help you gain much greater proficiency when shooting different types of challenging subjects like this. Your last point is why I hesitate between X-T5 and X-H2. Because the X-H2, you can press only the recall C1 and you have everyting (this is why is loose the focus select at the front and the mode dial).

Alex, thanks for your comment. Yes, that's one of the benefits with the X-H series over the X-T5. Although you can save AF Mode (Single/Zone/Tracking) to a Custom Setting on the X-T5, you can only save Focus Mode (AF-S/C) on the X-H cameras, because that function is controlled by a Fn button instead of the AF Selector switch.

Thanks for a great video Dan. Sounds great in principle, but I'm concerned about the speed of the electronic shutter readout of the 40mpx sensor for sports... whilst I'm sure the C1 setting is a great addition I'm not sure I can trust that sensor. I've had some nasty warp when panning rugby players using the X Trans IV at 1/1000. If you want to use pre-shot you have no choice but to use e shutter. So whilst I'd very much prefer the X-T5 body (and screen!) It looks like my only realistic choice is the X-H2s with it's crappy flip-out thingy. Such a pity... I mean how many sports/action photographers need a flip out screen??

Gareth, I’ve been shooting fast action with the electronic shutter and Pre-Shot ES since the X-T3 in 2018, and I’ve had almost no issues with distortion. Now, two generations later, the readout speeds are even faster. I have read that the X-H2S supposedly has lower rolling shutter issues, but from what I’ve seen so far, it hasn’t been a problem.

If you're shooting at 200mm and filling the frame with just the upper part of a body and panning to track the subject the horizonal speed at which you're planning the lens in high. It does distort. It's about the lateral speed of the subject and distance from the objective.

Gareth, you are correct. Speed of subject and speed of the camera definitely make a difference. I’ve seen it with things like propellers and carbon spoke bike wheels, but it’s pretty minimal with most of the scenes I shoot. I also think that we’re paying more attention to it now. For example, slow shutter speed panning shots have always distorted a little bit, even back in the day shooting with film. On a killer shot, however, we lived with it and didn’t pay any attention to the distortion. It was just part of the image and the effect. Now, with super high power cameras and fast electronic shutters, and more importantly, the prevalence of camera review blogs and forums, we’re far more aware of things like this. And our expectations are higher. As I said, with the tens of thousands of action scenes I’ve shot in the past few years with ES on the Fujis, this has been an extremely minimal issue for me. In the end, it’s your eyes, though, and your imagery.

I Loved/Love my X-T2 also but the X-T5 is on another level.. I just got back from a session using the new 23, new to me Sigma 56 and my beloved 90 and out of about 250 shots I don't think there's even 1 that's not sharp

Thanks for your comment. If you go back to the "EDIT/SAVE CUSTOM SETTING" menu inside the IQ menu, hit that, and then select one of your C1-7 presets, you'll then see an option that says "EDIT/CHECK," which will show you the specific settings that have been applied to that particular C preset, and that will be configured when you switch to that preset. Does that make sense?

It’s still a lot to start from the scratch at every C1 to C7. Better I adjust C1 with my main settings and copy this to only apply SOOC recipes. Yes. If it's not grayed out, then its editable and assignable to a preset. This means, if a preset has a different value for any of these settings than another one of your presets, then it will change when you switch to the new preset. To answer your second question, when you edit/save your settings, they're automatically saved to your current preset, unless you go into the next menu item down, which is called AUTO UPDATE CUSTOM SETTINGS and select DISABLE. Then you will see that the "save the changes" and "reset" options are no longer grayed out, and you will have to manually save or reset. If AUTO UPDATE CUSTOM SETTINGS is set to the default mode, which is ENABLED, then any changes you make, no matter if you edit them inside this menu, or make changes on the fly, will automatically be saved to your active preset, or the one you're currently editing in the menu. Does this make sense? And yes, I agree. Start by creating a specific recipe in the C1 slot, which you can quickly access that any time you want. Then you can branch out from there.

I have found that the "Recall C1 mode" function assigned to a fn button does not work maybe 5-10% of the time. I have not figured out why that is. I press the fn button mapped to that function and nothing happens. Turning the camera off and back on usually fixes it but it can be annoying as a bird photographer. I have C1 setup for birds in flight and stay in C2 for birds at rest. Usually I can just hit the fn button and swap the camera to birds in flight mode and it is awesome (when it works)!

Hi Spencer - Hmmm... not sure what the issue is. I will ask one of my contacts at Fujifilm what might be happening. Can you tell me which X Series camera you're using that has this issue?

To switch from landscape to action, or more realistically, to switch from "bird on stick" to "bird in flight", I need to be able to store shutter speeds in custom setting packages. Also drive settings (S/CH). Can I do that on the X-T5, and if so how?

Rodney, that would be helpful, but with the configuration of the X-T5, it's not possible to store shutter speeds or S/CH into the Custom Settings. That's where being proficient with the camera comes into play, and instinctively being able to switch on the fly. I've always advocated that the Fujifilm design team place CH at the very end of the shooting mode dial on the X-T models, so that in a fast breaking situation, you can just grab the little switch, slam it to the stop and be at CH. Sadly, they've never put this recommendation into design, but its still pretty easy to switch from S to CH, and flip the little AF selector on the front of the camera to AF-C. Also, I'm usually shooting in aperture priority mode, so to get a fast shutter speed, all I need to do is turn the f/stop ring on the lens to wide open, and that will give me the fastest SS available. I can do this blind, and if it's still not fast enough, I'll just grab the ISO dial and crank it up a few notches. Hope that helps. Are you currently using the X-T5?

@@DanBaileyPhoto Appreciate the detailed reply Dan. Yes, I've recently upgraded from an X-T2 to an X-T5. This discussion reveals the disadvantages of a UI based on physical dials and levers. Maybe you can do what I want in the X-H series with its PASM dial? Certainly you can do what I want with my older Canon EOS 6D DSLR. I agree you have to become proficient with the camera to make the switch I want quickly. Oh well. At least the X-T5 is small, uses SD cards only, and has a tilt screen!

Practice is everything, whether it's learning how to use the camera settings, how to identify which bird is out there in front of your lens, or how to capture it while it's flying really fast!!

How do you deal with switching between photo and video? In my ideal scenario I would switch to movie mode and the shutter speed would be auto set to 1/48 and the iso would also be the number it was when I was last in video mode. Is that possible?

Here's how I handle that. I usually shoot video in T mode (shutter speed dial), set to 1/48 sec, or whatever half my frame rate is. When shooting stills, I'm usually shooting in aperture priority, with the SS dial set to A. So, whenever I switch to Movie Mode, I always switch the two clicks back to T mode, which will still retain that 1/48 sec shutter speed. There are times when I'll shoot video in aperture priority, if I'm not too concerned with shutter speed. However, since ISO is tied to the ISO dial on the X-T5, the ISO would stay the same across both modes. So, you can't store one ISO for video and a different ISO for stills. You can on the X-H2/S, because ISO and shutter speed are both electronically controlled, and thus can be set to individual custom settings for stills and video. Does that make sense?

Edward, given that the GFX focus menus are nearly identical to the menus on most X Series cameras, I would say that my course would definitely be applicable to the GFX models as well.

Excuse me, your x-t5 camera, after the cover of the sd card is closed, is there any problem with the tightness? When you press the outer cover of the sd card, the outer cover will be elastic, a little not tight, and there is a tolerance. Do you have it? what about this situation? thanks

Thanks for your comment. I haven't had any issue with the tightness of the SD card door on my X-T5. It seems quite secure on my camera. Does yours feel exceptionally loose?

Excuse me, my X-T5 is in the AF-C continuous focus mode. When the shutter is half-pressed, the brightness of the camera screen will be relatively dim. When the shutter is released, it will be restored. Is there a setting error? Do you have the same situation, thank you for your answer.

This occurs with my own X-T5 as well, but only with certain lenses. It's a normal function. What's happening is the lens aperture is constantly adjusting to improve AF performance when tracking moving subjects. If you shoot in a darker situation, the lens remains open to make it easier for you to compose the scene, but stops down to the correct F stop once you engage focus. Does that make sense?

Ask and you shall receive! I had posted your concern about this issue to one of the Fujifilm tech reps, who passed it up the chain. And today, a brand new firmware has been released for the X-T5 that specifically addresses the issue: "The firmware bug has been fixed, which caused that the brightness of the preview image in the EVF was changing dramatically depending on the brightness of the subject while half pushing the shutter button by setting “FOCUS MODE” to “AF-C”. Hi there. I just checked on my own X-T5, and it looks like you can save an ISO mode, or turn it off to a custom setting. If you go to IQ - EDIT/SAVE CUSTOM SETTING - EDIT/CHECK, then navigate to the Shooting Settings Menu, look fro IS MODE. If it's not grayed out, then you can save it to your custom setting. Hope that helps.

@@DanBaileyPhoto you’re quite right, you can! The one that didn’t seem to get remembered to the custom settings bank was actually _video_ IS mode, although you _can_ save this to a Q menu slot, unlike the IS mode for stills setting. I noticed when I saw the hand-with-a-line-through icon , and wondered why it didn’t correlate to the setting I was using. Thanks for checking!

Tip 1 is on the older cameras. I was able to do that with my xt3

I think the change with the X-T5 is that the wrap feature can be disabled. All my fujifilm cameras have the ability to wrap the focus point, and it cannot be disabled.

Yes, I just figured this out. The actual function has been around for awhile, but the X-T5 allows you to disable if you wish.

Hello! On both my x-h2s and x-5, the LCD screen and evf become much darker when focusing when the camera is set to af-c and the aperture is set to, for example, 11. This applies when there are dark areas such as indoors in low lighting , in daylight or good lighting it does not appear like this. Is there a setting like on Sony for focus priority so that these can be set up in aperture priority at focus so that the camera does not change the aperture down to the set aperture but uses the largest possible aperture during focusing or is there a Any other setting I've missed? I have tried everything I can find of settings on both cameras but nothing seems to fix this.

Hi Thomas, I checked with one the Fujifilm tech reps, and also confirmed that this happens with my own X-T5, but only with certain lenses. What's happening is the Iris is constantly adjusting--more than likely to improve AF performance. If you shoot in a darker situation, the lens remains open to compose, but stops down to the correct F stop once you engage focus. However, he didn't know why it only happens with AF-C. He was going to check with one of the product managers and see if he can get an answer to that. At any rate, I hope you've having lots of fun with your new new X Series cameras! Hi Dan! I really enjoyed your content and can really see your skills and passion shining through. I am just having a bit of a problem watching your videos due to the excessive and distracting cuts that appear throughout. I know critique sucks to hear, especially from some dips**t on the internet but, I think it might help your subscriber numbers if you could lessen your editing a bit. The jump cuts are literally the only thing that held me back from subscribing. I wish you the best and hope any offense from my words is viewed with the kindness intended.

Hi Scott, thanks for your comment. No offense taken. I certainly appreciate your feedback, and that's something I'm always working on. The unfortunately reality is that most times I'm unable to speak an entire long segment without messing up or having to pause, so in the course of a 10-15 minute video, there will be numerous edits. I try to make mine as unobtrusive and obvious as I can. Either way, I do try my best to prepare and practice, but at this point, It's still a challenge for me to speak an entire video or extended section without having to stop sometimes, start over and edit the section later. I'm sorry that this is preventing you from subscribing and I would encourage you to try and look past the edits and instead concentrate on the content I'm putting across in my videos, as opposed to the non-perfect delivery, but that's obviously your choice. What Fuji do you use and what do you like to photograph?

The issue with the additional custom settings is that if you want to switch only the image parameters via the custom slots (1-7), but retain the same shooting parameters you can't. The camera now gets more in the way when switching image parameters only. Say slot 6 is black and white and slot 7 is a custom color recipe, you have to check a bunch more parameters when making the switch from slot 6 to 7 in order to see and use slot 6's shooting parameters in slot 7(or across any of the slots). I already run into issues where I choose a certain JPG look from one slot, but because of the added custom shooting parameters, something is off when switching to another slot because I forgot to check and switch one of the new additional settings. Time and muscle memory will hopefully help. I do appreciate the idea of setting up 7 different cameras so to speak- a landscape slot, an action slot, a portrait slot, etc. However, I wish Fuji would implement a menu setting to allow for the newly additional shooting parameters to be included or not with each custom slot. Should be an easy firmware update I would think- adding a menu item to apply the shooting settings or not. Essentially two banks of settings per slot. One (like the X-T4) for image parameters, and one for shooting parameters. Or, maybe include a global setting to turn on or off the additional settings across all 7 slots. Matt, on the new Fujis, there is a setting called "Auto Update Custom Setting," which might be the option that will solve your problems and make your camera customization a little less of a headache. I'm didn't quite follow exactly what's happening with your and the issues you're having, but I'll go look at the DPReview form and see if I can better understand. In the reanimate, check out that Auto Update setting an see if that works for you. If you Disable the setting, then any changes you make on the fly will not be saved to your custom slot. If you enable the setting, then any changes you make on the fly while shooting in any of the C1-7 settings will automatically be saved to that slot. Hope that helps.

The problem with auto update settings is you never truly have your baseline custom presets stored. It’s constantly changing them as you change them. You can’t just decide to go back to your default. I’ll often have a film sim setup in my custom presets as my go to baseline, but it might be too dark in the shadows for a high contrast day so I’ll switch the shadows for that day. With auto update on it’ll save that setting to the new shadow values and I can’t recall my baseline settings without keeping index cards with everything written down. But if I turn auto update off then every time I power the camera off and back on I lose all my adjustments I made for shooting that day. Another example is having a film simulation I love as is and don’t want to change it for any reason, but my base auto ISO might be set to 1/125 base shutter speeds and that day I’m out shooting street, or whitewater kayaking. If I change to 1/500 as a base shutter speed and I power the camera off then back on to conserve battery the camera will reset to 1/125.. It’s maddening, and really rewards RAW only shooting. Currently this has me tempted to sell the X-T5 and definitely not upgrade to any of their other cameras as they come out as I normally would unless they fix this issue and allow us to divorce shooting settings and JPEG settings within each custom preset.

Steven, thanks for your input here. I don't quite agree that the Fuji custom settings is geared towards RAW only shooting, in fact, I see it as quite the contrary. I shoot JPEG much of the time, and to me, this option makes it really easy to come up with, quickly recall, and occasionally modify specific recipes that spark my creativity. Regarding your frustration with the Auto Update setting, I'm not clear on what you would want instead, and I don't know what other camera or camera company would be able to provide with exactly what you're looking for. Either you want your custom settings saved, or you want them to auto update as you modify in the field. What you say you want seems to contradict each other, especially since the shutter speed and ISO dials can be set and left in one place. When you turn the camera off and back on, those settings don't change on the dial. At any rate, one option would be to use the USB RAW CONV./BACKUP RESTORE function, which allows you to save and restore camera and custom settings to and from your computer. fujifilm-x.com/en-us/products/software/x-acquire/ I know it may not be ideal for you, but I don't know how else this could be accomplished to save your changes, but not really save them, because you want them to be recalled, but then if you recall them, you lose your changes that you wanted to save, but not really, because then they would overwrite your original custom setting recipes. I apologize if I'm sounding trite here, I'm just trying to understand and work out in my own head what it is that you're trying to explain.

Let me try a different approach, and hopefully the forum post I referenced does a better job than I can explaining it! =) It comes down to having two sets (X-T5/X-H) of parameters instead of one (X-T4) that are adjustable. The X-T4 has 1 set of image/photo parameters. The newer bodies have 2- one for image/photo adjustment parameters, and a new set for shooting/functionality adjustment parameters. On my X-T4, I had 7 custom JPEG photo recipes set up (adjusting/editing those image parameters in each slot as desired). The 7 slots impacted the image parameters only(color chrome, wb, etc)- not the shooting parameters (af mode, self timer, etc). I could keep the same shooting parameters across all 7 slots and switch between those 7 slots without having to stop and wonder, or change, or think, about what shooting parameters may or may not have also adjusted between each slot. If I set slot C2 to a Kodachome 64 receipe on my X-T4, but changed to a B & W recipe in slot C3, the shooting parameters (af mode, self-timer, etc) carried over and only the photo parameters (color chrome, wb, etc) change as wanted. With the X-T5, now the shooting parameters (2nd set of newly added customizations with new sensor/processer) also have to be accounted for in each slot. So, if I adjust a shooting parameter (say the af mode or self timer example again) in slot C2, that adjustment does not carry over to slot C3 (or any other slots). And, auto-save does nothing to address that. It only address changes within each individual slot. Say I want to photograph a waterfall with the look from slot C3 and I get that all set up. Now, I want to photograph that waterfall with the look from C2 (or maybe C4 or C5, etc), but keep C3 shooting parameters- I can't do that simply or quickly. I now have to adjust all the shooting parameters that didn't carry over from C3 to C2 or C4 (but used to on the X-T4). This literally adds time and inefficiency to the process. While I could easily program all 7 slots to have matching shooting parameters (af, self-timer, etc again), the second I change one of these newly added parameters, every other slot now does not match. I'm forced to slow down and try and determine what set up I had or want if I use a different slot. I can't shift on the fly from slot C2 Kodachrome 64 look to slot C3 Black and White look and assume the shooting parameters carry over. That was my comment/suggestion about adding a menu item to disable if the new shooting parameters are active or not in each slot. That would restore the simplicity of the X-T4. If one wants 7 different looks only, while keeping the same baseline shooting parameters across all 7 slots, there is no way to do that. It has actually caused me to miss shots and add time. In the moment I may be thinking I turned off the self timer while using slot 3, but if I switch to slot 2 and it's still on in that slot, I've lost a shot. Yes, I can check that each time, but I shouldn't have to check a whole list of shooting parameters or jog my memory or see how they are set because I want a different photo/image parameter or look only- not a forced different shooting experience. Bit of a long winded additional explanation for sure, but hopefully that helps better explain it. I hold out hope that Fuji will introduce (via firmware) a menu item to include or not include the new shooting parameters they've added in each custom slot with this new generation of bodies. As Steven mentions below, there is no baseline set of shooting parameters that can be applied (and stay) across all 7 slots. The X-T4 did this beautifully (probably because of the older/less powerful sensor). If Fuji thinks this is great by adding additional settings, at least give us the option to turn them off and simply the shooting experience when the user wants. I have e-mailed Fuji directly as well with no response. The other advances of the X-T5 (and X-H2 I briefly had) are otherwise fantastic.

Hi Dan! Just got an X-T5. I had a couple of questions. • Is there a way to assign a function button to change your bracketing mode? I didn't see it. I know the button on the front by default allows you to change the parameters for the current bracketing mode. But I want a button to allow me to change the bracketing mode itself. My X-T30 ii has two bracket options on the drive dial, whereas the X-T5 only has one, surprisingly. I often switch to exposure bracketing and focus bracketing so I like to have both available quickly. • When I use the DISP button to cycle through the display options on the LCD, everything is fine. But when I use it to cycle through the display options on the EVF, it never makes all the display information go away. Again, my- X-T30 ii does this correctly. Do you know how to fix this?

Stephen, thanks for your comment. To answer your questions: 1. As you said, when the Drive dial is in BKT, the front Fn button will allow you to select your BKT mode and adjust the parameters. However, there is no Fn assignment that will allow you to instantly change the BKT setting, it has to be done inside the Drive menu as described. The X-T10/20/30 have the two options, but it's a more in-depth process to assign which setting want to those two spots on the Drive dial. 2. No. On the X-T10/20/30, toggling the DISP button turns on/off the shooting info inside the EVF. On the X-T1/2/3/4/5, toggling the DISP doesn't make the info disappear, but it gives you a larger, full size image inside the EVF, with the shooting info overlay. However inside the DISP CUSTOM SETTINGS menu, you can choose what info to display inside the EVF/LCD. So yes, there are some slight differences in how the two series function. It will just take a bit of time to get used to them. At any rate, I hope you're enjoying your new X-T5!!

@@DanBaileyPhoto Oh, and one more thought. When using peak highlighting, on my X-T30 ii, the highlight goes away when you half press the shutter button. That is really nice, as it allows you to see your image properly before shooting. The X-T5 doesn't do that. I find it very annoying, as I shoot in manual focus a lot. When shooting hand held, for example, I can't get a good look at my composition right before I shoot.

Yes, I just checked my cameras too. The XT-10 and X100V both perform like your X-T30, but the X-T1/2/3/4/5 perform like your X-T5. The peak highlights remain lit while you're shooting. I'll ask one of the tech reps or product managers about this.

X-T5 has it when shooting jpeg. I wish it at least had frame guides in the different aspect ratios not just 16:9. It doesn't even darken the outside the bounds of the frame guide

Rob, the X-H2S has a different sensor than the X-H2 an X-T5, so that camera doesn't have 4:3. 😕

Alan, one of the possible Fn button settings is called RECALL C1 SETTING. If you assign this to a Fn control, and save a custom setting to the C1 slot, you can instantly recall it with that single button press. Does that make sense?

I hope this video was not shot with the xt5 If you can see between his cap and head at the right top side is distracting me from what he is saying.

Thanks for your comment. This video was actually shot with the X-T4, but those occasional patches of light under my cap that you're describing has nothing to do with the camera, they're simply slight distortion spots that occurred during my attempt to key out 100% of the green screen that's behind me. Jan, I guess I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say "how to apply them." Do you mean "how do you physically change the settings on the camera," or "how do you use them in real world situations when shooting?" I went back and re-watched the video, and I feel that I did a pretty good job providing a clear explanation of how each setting works when you're shooting and I showed examples. And, in my previous message, I gave you links that will show you exactly where to find each of the settings inside the camera menus on the X-T5. So, if this still isn't clear, then please let me know exactly what type of info you're looking for, or what you feel is missing in this video that you want to know.
