I finally have the words for the notes I'm repeatedly drawn to. Neroli soapy. In many cultures, neroli and orange blossom have a spiritual significance as calming & protecting

4711 Eau de Cologne is a real Eau de Cologne! In Germany it´s so famous. It isn´t meant to stay for a long time and to have a huge projection. It´s more used to refresh yourself if it´s nessecary. It´s used when having a slight headache too. You can dab a handkerchief being sprayed with 4711 on your forehead and often a slight headache gets better. It´s also used like smelling salts if someone is fainting. My grandmother always had a handkerchief with 4711 in her handbag. It´s so cheap that you can use it to clean your hands on journeys with. So it´s multifunctional.

I believe 4711 is the first cologne that I ever put my hands on when I was able to wash my hands on my own as a kid . I swear everyone has it in their bathroom grown-up in the Middle East & 40 plus years later I still use it & love it as a lift me up fresh/ happy scent . Cheers 🌞

I bought Floris neroli voyage based on Clemence’s recommend and it’s lovely. Very fresh with aquatic notes and good longevity on my skin. Usually the fresh scents don’t have good longevity. Quite unisex.

Armani Pour Homme, Acqua di Parma, Quorum Silver, L'occitane and Xerjoff Nio (although in a pricey side) are my current favourites. Thanks for the review

Also clean reserve "Aqua Neroli" is very close to Neroli Portofino at a fraction of the price, and it's longer lasting. Great stuff if you like this type of fragrances. Great informative video like always, and a pleasure to watch. Love it!

I do enjoy the smell of orange and citruses. I have the 4711 and i do think it's close to N. Portofino Tom Ford. I don't know the other thoug so want to check them. Thank you for another great video. Keeping us entertained while in quarantine.

Nice list! First time I've smelled Neroli Portofino Forte I was shipped to the past. As a kid my mom use to spray us with Ptisenbon from Tartine et Chocolat. Something with those sharp citrus notes.

I think Nio by Xerjoff and Oranzo by Sylvain Delacourte are also really good scents in the same vein of NP and 4711. Oranzo is a really long lasting delicious icy neroli scent, and Nio a green grassy neroli scent. Both add a nice unique twist to the classic neroli cologne style

For me neroli portofino reminds me of some sort of childhood memory. It's either the smell of a shampoo or sunscreen or suntan lotion but I can't recall exactly. It's definitely a unique perfume and I wouldn't wear it daily but it's good to know that there are dupes out there.

So excited for this video. Neroli Portofino is one of my all time favorite fragrances. I wore it in St Lucia on my honeymoon. You’re totally right, the Forte version is stunning. Do you think the Frederic Malle is safe to blind buy?

I love 4711, and use it as hand sanitizer currently. Great alternatives are Dior's Escale a Portofino, Nishane Colognisé and Eau de Givenchy.

Crusellas Kolonia 1800 is the best alternative. It basically smells the same as 4711 and there is also a dryer smelling variety. Its a little longer lasting than 4711 and it only costs a whopping 10$ for 32oz here in Miami.

Been buying 4711 by the liter since the 80s. Great aftershave exactly because it doesn’t last long so I can wear whatever fragrance on top of it. Good refresher as needed too.

I agree with you for 4711, COLOGNE INDELEBILE (my favorite) AND ACQUA DI PARMA; but also I like" Etat libre d'orange- Cologne";

yes exactly, in turkish culture you offer your guests "kolonya". typically its a lemon cologne. you pour some in the hands and kind of sanitize them, and put some on your neck/face if you want.

I have the big Bottle of 4711, I love it! BVLGARI MAN Wood Neroli is on the vein and much stronger, on my skin almost 12 hours, I really don't know how, but I really like it.

I always keep a 300 ml bottle of 4711 in the bathroom, good enough for me for that kind of scent. And if I stay indoors on a Saturday, it lasts a long time on me.

I have the original Helmut Lang in an Eau de Parfum and the pure Parfum, both bottles shaped like the one you have. As old as they are, they have not “turned” one bit and smell exactly the to me as the day I bought them.

Neroli intense from Parfums vintage is a good one as well. Performance is beast mode. Lasted 10 hours on my skin.

Thank you Sebastian, great review as usual.I'm a big fan of your reviews. May I suggest you try Carolina Herrera Neroli Boheme. It's an interesting take on Neroli. Another one to consider is Clean Reserve Acqua Neroli, its spot on for TF Neroli portofino and much cheaper.

I came here because of FM Cologne Indelebile and learned so much. It’s funny that I don’t like TF Neroli. I’m interested in trying the last one in your video with the heliotrope. Thank you!

I love neroli portafino. Didn't like it when i first smelled it. I then smelled the aqua, which was alittle lighter. The scent grew on me then. The forte i adore as well. Even though its always memtioned, Ive never gotten the soapy vibe though.

Have been using 4711 as an aftershave for years its great for that feeling fresh after the shower and after that I can use what ever I want to smell like because 4711 is gone

4711 is not refreshing to my nose, but I love Neroli Portofino! I had the lotion and I wore it with Love, by Kilian. I happened to be in Cologne and I saw 4711. I was so excited to try it, but I hated it. I have Sunday Cologne, Byredo and XIX March, Tiziana T which has more of the herbal and floral...more similar, but nicer and longer lasting than 4711. My fresh citrus for years was L’Eau de Neroli, Diptyque, but a bit more musky to my nose.

bought 4711 and put in the reeds. Keep it on a table near your living room or bedroom. Great scent.

Penhaligons Castile is a solid neroli based fragrance comparable to the ones you mentioned. Nice list though, great content as usual, 🍻

I wish I could afford all of Tom Ford fragrances...

important point for the Nishane Colognise is it is an "extrait de cologne" 18% concentration!!! Banger🙌🏻

I’d recommend Neroli Tomboy from Parle Moi De Parfum, which for me, along with Papyrus Oud are the best of the PMDP line. Flying from Maison Margiela maybe a great option too.

My favourite is Maisom Margiela Replica: Flying. It lasts the whole day with this scent!

Eeek.. that depends on the lhomme ideal type. Theres like 6 different ones I've tried the EDP version but it's more of a sweet sultry frag with almond/warm am very notes

Clinique's Blue Sky Neroli smells very similar and the price tag is definitely more budget friendly (at least in the UK). For some reason my nose also finds Heartless Helen (Penhaligon's) somewhat similar, altough that one is supposed to be all about tuberose...

The best alternative I could find is Al Haramain's Neroli Canvas, it smells superb and has great longevity and projection.

Mugler Cologne I found very soapy and really very nice smelling, specially for the upcoming warmer weather. In fact ordered one recently, but got the Come Together bottle in spite of the photo with the original bottle on Amazon Germany. Returning it, and ordering the original from another website. It seems that will be the true original at least according to the EAN, hoping to get it soon.

Yeh defo has to be the orignal mugler cologne and back up bottle is a must staple for me too

the best summer fragrance for me is nishane colognise , pure ingredients and long lasting

When I live in Spain in the early 80s I wore Eau de Givenchy for Women , it is fresh, clean but had a lingering scent it was probably the sandalwood, oakmoss, musk and cedar base even though it was for women my Spanish boyfriend use to steal a spray so for me I always thought it was unisex fragrance and now the new version is unisex. A fragrance called Alada by Myrurgia was a cheap go to for me when I ran out of Eau de Givenchy. I was classed as a floral, woody fresh fragrance but I could only ever smell the citrus notes and cedar. . I never really think of the citrus fragrances as SOAPY for me a very soapy fragrance is Estee by Estee Lauder which I use to wear but I cannot stand it now. If I want to wear something fresh and invigorating I like to wear Eau Ressourcante by Clarins is a Citrus Aromatic fragrance which has top note basil and lemon, middle note is iris and base notes are benzoin and cedar. So I have come to the conclusion I like citrus and cedar. 4711 reminds me of playing with plasticine at school, it was a brand of modelling clay,with a putty-like texture it was made from calcium salts, petroleum jelly and aliphatic acids.. I am sure they added bergamont to the product to make it smell OK.

Please review 4711 line up specially Acqua Colonia Lychee & White Mint

Another great alternative to 4711/Neroli Portofino is Bond No. 9's Eau de New York! It has 10-12 lasting power!

TF's N. Portefino is as much a cologne as ADP Colonia Imo 🍊🍋 & I love them both.

Hi seb. Hope you are well. Ferrari bright neroli is rather nice have you tried it. Very cheap as well.

usually eau de colognes behave, well....as an eau de cologne lol. but nobody should ever be afraid to buy an acqua di parma fragrance, they outperform numerous edts i own. and you can never really choke people out with it. depending on weather and skin you could definetely even get really good impressive projection.

I only know 4711 and never considered it soapy, but to me Davidoff Cool Water used to smell soapy and I felt scents like that were cheap and generic. I don't dislike the scent, but you might as well use a nice shampoo or something and get the same effect, it seems. Every sporty-freshy fragrance seems to be just like the other with subtle differences and I thought that was just a lack of imagination. So I don't buy them. Now I've learned that it's mostly the citrus note for me that I can point out, I am not sure what neroli smells like.

You really make me want to grab the forte version of TF :D

Guerlains Cologne du Parfeumeur smells almost IDENTICAL to TF NP. There are obviously some differences in notes, Guerlains CDP contains a nice little fresh cut grass scent to it in lieu of the neroli. It's a really nice petitgrain fragrance. Longevity is OKAY

Lacura amalfi brilliante is supposed to be a good neroli portofino copy , I've got an oil by al sunnah which is very close. It lasts around 4 hours aswell which is quite good.

Alexandra Port by Alexandra Fragrances gives me 8 - 10 hours longevity on a typical day and it's 95% Neroli Portofino. For 60 - ish USD it's fantastic!

There is a fragrance by Chopard called Neroli a la cardamome du Guatemala that you should definitely check out. A much better take on the TF / 4711 neroli smell. It is great one.

Would have thought Colonia Essenza would be a better choice for a 4711/NP alternative than the OG Colonia?

I know this is an old video but have you ever heard of a baby cologne named "Nenuco"? In my opinion is identical to Neroli Portofino, and also super cheap.

Colonia is nice, but not for the price due to performance issues. It seemed to last 1-2 hours.

Like others already have mentioned, Bvlgari Wood Neroli is probably the best alternative.

I tried a sample of the James Heeley, it did smell almost exactly like 4711 but the scent dissipated just about as quick as 4711 does. Does this normally have such a short lived scent?

I guess I'm late to this particular party... But another great fragrance that has similar notes to the 4711 and the Tom Ford, is from the house of Jacques Bogart. Bogart "SIGNATURE" is a wonderful juice and the longevity is pretty good at around six hours. It's got the most interesting and sharp pimento note at the top of the opening. The middle is the slightest bit sweet, with notes of bergamot, lemon and orange giving way in the early dry down to soapy notes, green notes, white floral notes and woods. The fragrance ends as a very even mix of all these, with a slightly powdery accord. It's available for around $20.00 and I think it's worth every cent. It's my "go to" Summer Scent and I get loads of compliments on it... Usually of the "oh, that smells SO CLEAN!" variety.

@Slick. I don't think I've ever seen anyone highly recommend a cheap fragrance like Bogart Signature... Does it smell natural enough, or is it pretty synthetic? 😊

Jeanne en Provence Neroli Intense is a really really good cheapie alternative to TF neroli

Thomas kosmala #1 is an exact replica of tf portofino. It’s actually stronger and lasts all day.

The scent ist called "Echt Köllnisch Wasser" not 4711. 4711 is the brand, produced by Mäurer & Wirtz. Echt Köln Wasser means something like real cologne or real water from cologne, a town in germany where this brand came from. For ages there has been a dispute about who invented the fragrance, but the fact is that "Johann Maria Farina gegenüber dem Jülichs-Platz" launched the fragrance in 1709, also in Cologne. In the meantime there are also variants of the fragrance (Nouveau Cologne or the Remix Cologne Anniversary Edition) that appear a little more modern. You should know that the original fragrance is also often called an "Omaduft" here, so as a fragrance that only old ladies wear :-) It is not really hip to wear it even if it smells very good in my opinion. That is probably the reason why it is so cheap here. "Echt Köllnisch Wasser" has no special reputation, although it has been around the market forever.

Here in Holland you can get an 800ml bottle of 4711 for about 50 to 60 euro's that's a great deal

You should try Neroli Nostrum by Lunio (Spanish brand) . A Daniel Josier creation ...the best neroli i tried

I own Cologne Indélébile, Neroli Portofino, and Colonia...I think I have a type. 😁Now I have more to explore!

Need some recommendations about beast mode indie fragrances

You can get a bottle of forte on Ebay for 140- ay so tempting.

Should add Bvlgari Wood neroli , eau de givenchy and carven l'eau. All great smell and last long. TF portofino is not worth buying. Better you buy 4711 500ml size and bathe with it. Still a lot cheaper and smell the same.

What size comes with the sprayer on the 4711???

Sebastian, after the lockdown if travelling to Germany how about a subscriber meet somewhere there? Specially if near Cologne/Bonn :)

Actualy the 4711 istn made to stay long like a frag, its kind of a cleaning refreshing water with a scent

I liked the Helmut Lang one before I read the story about it. There was a lot going on in my head and I was afraid that my husband thinks I had a affair.

I’m looking at purchasing Mancera’s Aoud Lemon Mint, but I would like to hear your critique of it first.

There is no need to substitute 4711 and it comes in 800ml bottles, so spash it on. And yes, use as hand sanitizer! Heaven.

Original Vetiver from Creed has a surprising resemblance to Neroli Portofino, with much better performance of course. Could be another good alternative

I agree and also many say OV smells like Mugler Cologne cause I don't think there's much or any vetiver in OV by Creed. I think Creed's Vetiver is Vetiver Geranium! :)

There is one/two more: quite expensive Mediterranean Neroli by Zegna and its cheaper counterpart Acqua di Neroli by Zegna as well. I own the second one, bought it for ~ 30$ (100 ml) and I prefer it over Neroli Portofino. It is a little bit more juicy and also it lasts longer. And the price is ridiculous :)

Banana republic neroli woods- neroli portofino for pennies on the dollar. And it seems to last longer too!

I really like Jakes House by Henry Rose beautiful same family!

check the Thomas kosmala tonic blanc it is also similar to TF neroli portofino but super long lasting

You know it's not like Hacivat. It's a cologne but I feel like it's longevity is better than others like Neroli Portofino. But each body chemistry is different so I would recommend testing it! :)

Aqua di Parma on me lasts all day. Not that light side for me. Alvarez Gomez if you want a dupe and a cheaper version.

If I heard correctly, there was a reference to spraying in car but a quick note, do not store under sunlight & heat...but I think we all know this.

I don't mind leaving 4711 in a car! I wouldn't do it with any other fragrances though! :)

Ferarri Bright Neroli and Just Jack Neroli are quite similar with Neroli Portofino. My nose almost can't tell the difference, but my wallet can!
