I agree. I watched the first 2 episodes of Shuriken Sentai Ninninger a while after it ended and thought they were great, so I was sad to see the show's negative reception but then I thought "Well maybe it started out good but quickly went downhill which turned people against it." Turns out that there was only one episode in the entire series I did not like, and I love it so much I'd even call it one of my top 5 Sentai series. I'm not the only one, my mother and sister loved it too. Even my aunt, who prefers Kamen Rider over Super Sentai considers it one of the best Sentai series. But then we are sort of oddball Sentai fans. I have yet to see Kyuranger or Lupinranger VS Patranger, but I love all the other 8 Sentai of the 2010s I've seen to the point where unless those 2 others really drop the ball I'd say that my favorite decade for Sentai was the 2010s.

I saw "We're Back" on its initial release, and I was the ONLY one in the theater. It made NO impression on me at the time. But I decided to give it another chance a few months ago thanks to clips showing up in my KZread feed. I still think it's all over the place in terms of story and tone, but John Goodman's performance as Rex is GENUINELY charming, as is James Horner's score.

Tbh, I grew up with Ice Age 2, 3, and 4, and ignored the first movie for most of my childhood. But after finally watching the original, I fell in love with it and it’s my favourite of the franchise. Compared to the sequels, it’s much more mature and engaging. I love the dynamic between Manny, Sid, and Diego. The jokes are at their peak in this film, especially with Sid. The score is transcendent. Roshan is adorable. Scrat is a riot. The dodo bird encounter is hilarious. The sliding scene is fun. The cave painting scene is emotional. The action sequences are suspenseful. And despite the dated animation, the prehistoric aesthetic is really cool and actually feels like it’s inhabited by animals and not humans acting like animals. P.S. I know most people hate Ice Age 4, but that movie’s a guilty pleasure for me.

@@starthefrakkfangirl6094 I think it’s mainly the lead character (forgot her name, she’s _that_ dull). Because at this point Disney has milked the “quirky adorkable lead female” role to death first with Rapunzel, then Anna, then Mirabel, honestly I equate their decision to keep recycling the character type to giving us nothing but Fire-Fighting Type Starters in Pokémon for years: It started with Blaziken in Gen III, then Infernape (okay fair enough, the mythology fit the Region), then Emboar (why was there a sumo-wrestling pig in the Not-New York Region?), then Incineroar (this one broke my heart turning an adorable little fire cat into a Mucha Lucha reject). Now they did finally break the trend with Incinerace but it was a soccer-playing bipedal bunny … it wasn’t until Gen IX they finally bucked the trend altogether but still it seems like Pokémon has an allergy to giving us Starters that stay quadrupedal. Back to my original point: the lead character was essentially a rehash of several previous female leads, this from the start made her a bit “meh”. But then the plot happened, her big thing was “no one should control wishes!” … but in the end SHE controls all the wishes and just grants them all without hesitation, even the ones that could be a REALLY bad idea if she just thought about it (oh and her friend group were based off the Seven Dwarves … why?) The King (forgot his name too) could have been a “forgivable villain” if his motives weren’t purely selfish, if he really was choosing not to grant some wishes for the safety of the Kingdom, or Hell make his WIFE the villain who was manipulating him behind the scenes! But nah, cookie-cutter heroine saves the day by defeating cookie-cutter villain then essentially dooms the kingdom by granting everyone’s wish no matter how stupid or dangerous it could be … and looking at the deleted scenes of Main Girl (seriously what IS her name?) falling in love with Star Boy … I felt cheated out of a much better story. If you enjoyed this then sincerely I’m glad, I just felt let down because what they described as a movie “celebrating 100 years of Disney” … was just pretty “meh” in the end 😒😒😒

We’re Back is something I discovered after my “initial childhood”, meaning it was like when I was about 8 or so. I’d already had my defining childhood stuff like Toy Story and Lion King and Dinosaur. So I was able to look at this with a more critical eye even at that age. The movie is kinda juvenile, like it’s a bit too babyfied in terms of writing and characters. It’s also a bit too overly sweet sometimes. But where it also goes overly sweet, sometimes it gets really creative and beautiful, and I can hold my nose on the cringey stuff. Ice Age is a good movie overall. Ice Age 2, I feel like is probably objectively weaker but man that one is my favorite. Absolute. Such beautiful animation, scope, etc.

Glad to hear you appreciate Sinbad as much as I do! I watched it about 2 years ago for the first time in ages and I liked it way more than I thought! I’m also a fan of Treasure Planet and Road to El Dorado, but like you I see why those movies gained cult status over the years and I wish more people talked about it the same way they appreciate other hand drawn early 2000s animated cult hits from Disney and DreamWorks. On the subject of disliking a movie but liking the sequel a lot more, I haven’t quite had that yet but even though The Lion King is my favorite animated film of all time, the 2019 “live action” version didn’t do it for me. I’m aware that there’s going be a Mufasa-based prequel/sequel linked to it that’s coming out at the end of the year, and not that I want it but I’m curious to see if Barry Jenkins will work his magic as the great director he is. We’ll just have to see at this point.

Brian, my buddy and I JUST watched Sinbad a few hours ago and she had never seen it! What coincidence this is! As far as I’m concerned, its “loose, meandering story” works because its structure and setting are very similar to the Odyssey, even borrowing the mythology. Sinbad works because he’s basically Han Solo mixed with Odysseus. Also, Sinbad and Proteus’s friendship is so heartwarming, deep, and inspiring, the choreography is fantastic, the music is gorgeous, the backgrounds are breathtaking, the cast’s performances are mostly top-notch, especially for live action actors, and Eris’s animation is beautiful enough to make eyeballs leak rainbows. Yeah, the 3D doesn’t age well and the roc having an affinity for snow was very odd and throws off the atmosphere…but the thing I don’t like most is Marina. While she and Sinbad had good chemistry, I couldn’t root for them. Girl made a pathetic attempt to stay loyal to her fiancé ONCE near the END after flirting with Sinbad for most of the film, and two scenes later she confesses her love to someone who’s NOT her fiancé while he’s still back home being heroic noble self-sacrificing princeling. And she doesn’t respect Sinbad’s attempts to be loyal and do right by his friend by removing himself from the situation THREE TIMES, and she just refuses to leave him alone even after she finds out she’s the problem that caused the rift in their friendship. Unfortunately this film was the last 2D film Dreamworks ever did and it flopped, and the very next film was Shrek 2, which is still Dreamworks’ highest grossing film, so they never switched back to their gorgeous 2D animation in a full-length film after that, because Shrek defined where the money went. P.S. totally with you, Owls of Ga’Hoole is BASED.

Ooh, it was interesting to see you bring up We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story. That’s a movie that I genuinely enjoy too, even if I do see the flaws in it. Yeah, it may also be because of nostalgia and my love for dinosaurs, but when looking at it nowadays, there’s still a lot that I appreciate. I like how it has some heart, I love the music by James Horner, the dinosaur characters, while not fleshed out to the best of their ability, are still ok and charming with a harmless innocence to them, and I do love the idea of what it was trying to offer. If its story was better told and executed, it could’ve been better, but ultimately, I see We’re Back as a fun and harmless watch. Also, the song, Roll Back the Rock, is a really catchy banger! 🦖

I'm a Fish ▪ Rock-A-Doodle ▪ Bartok the Magnificent ▪ A Troll in Central Park ▪ The Pebble and the Penguin ▪ The Swan Princess 1, 2 & 3 ▪ The Land Before Time Movies ▪ Monster House ▪ Valiant ▪ Home ▪ Lion King 2 (HOT TAKE: I think it's better than the first) ▪ Bambi 2 ▪ Winnie the Pooh's Grand Adventure ▪ Piglet's BIG Movie ▪ The Rescuers (Yes the first one) ▪ Brother Bear 1 & 2 ▪ Stuart Little 2 ▪ Home Alone 3 If I think of more, I'll add them later

I mean, I get it, LeBron James is in it, Pepe Le Pew isn't in it, it's nothing but a Warner Bros commercial, but still, I just enjoy the crud out of it! I think it's a fun time! 2) WHAT DO YOU MEAN NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE ICE AGE?!? I mean, yeah, 4 and 5 are okay, and I don't want to see the one on Disney+, but still, *HOW?!?*

It infuriates me to think a movie like Guardians of Ga’Hoole is hated. The story is excellent, the voice acting is excellent, the music is MAJESTIC, and the visuals are nothing short of stunning. I still hold to the belief that it is the best take on photo-realistic animation that still captures so much emotion and relatability without going into the uncanny valley. It’s what the live action Lion King should’ve looked like. Instead we got another edition of Space Buddies or Super Buddies or whatever those movies are called 😭, where it literally just looks like a photoshopped mouth moving over a video of a straight faced animal. Also love that you gave the Ice Age movies some love. I definitely do see the problems with the films but they hold so much nostalgia for me that I’ll never be able to hate on them, Dawn of the Dinosaurs especially.

As someone who read the Owls of Ga Hool books as a kid (keep in mind I havent read them in a while so my memory with them are a bit foggy) yeah this movie was one of the better book movie adaptations in my opinion. Yeah sure from what i do remember some plot lines were cut out for the better or for the worse (from what I do remember, in the books the younger sister does fly after she got rescued but in the movie she doesnt and had more of a bigger role compared to the movie) but honestly I still like the movie! I totally recommend reading the books since all of the books are pretty short so you are able to finish them pretty quickly!

Personally, I think most people aren’t fair to Ice Age. I don’t understand the opinion that the main characters are boring and Scrat is the only interesting part. I guess if you’ve only seen the sequels but not the original the main characters can feel a bit flat, but when you know how they started out and how they came together I don’t see how you can not be totally invested in them. Manny is grieving the loss of his family and has lost the will to live. Sid was abandoned by his family because they only saw him as a nuisance. Diego has a good heart but is in an abusive situation that won’t let him show it. All three of them get a second chance at a family with each other when they’re brought together through taking care of a human baby, a species that ordinarily they would want nothing to do with. The first Ice Age is powerful and it’s sad that people don’t give it a chance.

Now, here are my 5 movies, and please be respectful, and feel free to have a FRIENDLY debate in the replies: 1. Home-Again, this is another movie I like for nostalgia purposes. When this came out, I liked the concept, I liked the world building, I liked the characters, and I appreciated the comedy. Yes the human design is very jarring, and the ending is too out of left field, but there are so many iconic moments in this movie that I liked. Nowadays, I think it's ok, but man, did I like this movie. And yes, Rhianna killed it, of course she did. 2. The Trolls duology-Everyone hating on these needs to get over themselves. It's a LITERAL KIDS MOVIE, WHAT ARE YOU EXPECTING. I will never understand the hate for these movies. Sure, the story is as basic as you can get, and certain actors are not very good to say the least (looking at James Corden), but I love the music, the animation is one of the best in DreamWorks history, JT can do no wrong, and also they referenced the meme song. I would even go as far as to say that the sequel is better than the original (though it does have Kelly Clarkson and Mary J. Blidge so that's kind of cheating). I have yet to see the third one, but I think it will be easily the best, so that I will be the only person to ever like it, and I would defend this movie, it would be SOO AMAZING. 3. Ralph Breaks The Internet-Now this one is a special case, because this movie I like for ironic purposes. We all know about movies we love that everyone else hates, but what about those movies that are so bad that it's amazing. This is one of those movies to an extent. Ralph 2 for me is a film that I know might be objectively flawed, but I can't under any circumstance bring myself to hate it. Wreck-It-Ralph is one of my favorite Disney movies, so of course I'm gonna love the sequel, right? I think the world building on the internet is surprisingly well done, I'm a sucker for 4th wall breaks and references, so this movie I think does them amazingly well. The humor is top tier, the animation is genuinely spectacular, Slaughter Race looks cool, the music number for Vanellope is actually a really good song. And no, I don't think this a character assassination, it's still Ralph, it's still Vanellope, it's still the other characters in the movie. And also, the post credit scene is in my top 10 funniest movie scenes, well played Disney. I don't think it's objectively great, but it's hands down one of my favorite experiences I've ever had with a movie. This is like the Emoji Movie, but if it was 100% funny instead of less than 5%. 4. Angry Birds 2-WHY DID THIS MOVIE GET HATE??!! The only reason I can see that is because the studio it comes from, and the fact that it's an Angry Birds Movie. Well guess what, I DONT CARE. I love Angry Birds. It is my childhood and I grew up with it. When the first film came out, I was admittedly nervous because I was a huge Angry Birds fan. I thought the movie was alright, but I basically stopped being an Angry Birds fan at that point. Then I saw the 2nd, and I thought it was better than the original. I think it has better characters, a more engaging story, WAY BETTER humor, and can we just talk about the humor for a second? Almost every joke is so well written, Josh Gad is a legend, and all the characters are entertaining in their own right. Aside from it being Angry Birds and ONE bad scene, I don't see any reason why this film should've gotten the hate that it did. Everyone, if you haven't seen this movie, give it a chance. I almost guarantee you won't regret it. And also Chuck is a Giga Chad. 5. Sing-OH MY JESUS LORD WHERE DO I EVEN START???!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME RIGHT ME RIGHT NOW. Every time I saw this movie online I could not stop seeing the hate and trashing of this film. WHY? This is one of the best Illumination films, if not the best non Mario film. I love this movie so much to the point where I would say it's overhated. Every character arc give me all the emotions, every single performance is S tier, the soundtrack SLAPS, IT HAS THE GREATEST CHARACTER IN CINEMATIC HISTORY (you know exactly who I'm talking about), the visuals are stunning and colorful, as is every Illumination film. I would say this is a better version of Trolls. Now I will admit I am EXTREMELY BIASED because it has the best singer ever, oh, I mean miss vocal runs, oh, I mean Tori Kelly. But you can go put a sock in it if you tell me it's bad. (Halfly joking) I know that this film has a group of people who love it, but imo, I don't think it's enough. I think everyone should watch this, especially if you are a music lover like me. I will always love Sing and I'll defend it with my life until the day I DIE. Ok I won't really, but still, I really like the film.

I know a lot of people say they don't care for the main characters, but I've personally grown really endeared with them, and it's just fun watching both their relationship and their adventures throughout the saga. The last one is probably the only one I refuse to rewatch, though. I personally can't get behind that cheap-looking animation or the characters they introuced in that one. 😬 But if you do like that one too, more power to you, Brian! 😁 I don't think I've watched any of the other ones on this list, though. But your mini-reviews and appreciation for them despite their flaws got me interested. They might be worth giving a chance. 😉
