💬 LESSON DESCRIPTION:
If you're an improvising guitarist, or if you want to be a great improvisor, then two of the most impactful things to practice are:
-Improvising with random notes
-Improvising constant notes
Hang with me on this.
It's hard to be sold on this concept until you give it a solid try and start seeing the incredible benefits (which of course takes a while).
In this final video of my "quick tips" lesson series, I outline five concrete reasons why improvising with constant random notes is a game-changing exercises for improvisors.
I hope these five reasons help you push through that initial phase of practicing something new, that phase when we're not sure of how it's going to pay off (been there!).
Thanks for watching!
I hope you have a great rest of your week and that you get some fun guitar time in :)
- Jared

The short lessons are a great idea! Don’t worry about not being “complete”. As KZread-“students” we are more or less self-taught, anyway. (And probably very stubborn, too) But a little incentive in the right direction can make a world of a difference for us.

This is actually harder than it appears to be, and I can see how it could be beneficial and help break through barriers. Thanks

Great tip for opening creativity and fun! Similar to what Kenny Werner was talking about in his book “Effortless Mastery”. Also love the short lesson format. Thank you 👍❤🦘

Thanks for this... Have been trying to learn to play guitar for a while (with loads of frustration) and can do some of the "mechanical" stuff (mechanically). I understand the concepts and some of the logic, but "free form" (improv's) and visualising stuff on the fretboard has always been an issue. Of all the youtube lessons I have watched, for some reason THIS ONE stands out. Subscribed and following - I will get there (someday). Thanks again..

Fascinating! What do you think about? Are you aware of the note names, scale number, string and fret numbers? Or do we just play randomly moving about the fretboard without being aware of the note’s context when playing it?

Great question! Don't think about anything. Just let yourself play as freely as possible. Play ANYTHING and don't worry about what it is. Just focus on whatever is needed to execute that, nothing more is necessary - so technique, physical relaxation, tone, etc... but don't worry about note names, scale numbers, string numbers, fret numbers, anything like that - the beauty of it is that it's intentionally a break from all that stuff

What does “constant” mean in this context, Jared? Should I hit always the same, but random notes?

It means playing a consistent rhythm without stopping. For example, playing continuous 8th notes at 120 bpm. The PITCHES should be random, not the rhythm. Hope that helps.
