I have seen a lot of people get the magnum distributor 180 degrees out. if you line up the dots on the crank/cam dot to dot (12 o'clock crank and 6 o'clock cam).... thats TDC on #1 cylinder exhaust stroke...not compression. dot to dot is TDC compression for #6 the world may never know why mopar did this but once you have the cam installed, give the crankshaft one full revolution (which would rotate the cam 180 degrees) then drop in the distributor and you are set to go. This will put both timing marks at 12 o'clock. Also your crank turning tool.... it has three slots in it....they are different sizes.... use the tightest one to eliminate as much play as possible, if it still has more than 1 degree of play, cut some strips of an aluminum can to make a thin shim and put that shim next to the crank key to take up slack. this method takes a little more time but reduces the chance of error considerably. Don't worry I'm not a keyboard mechanic, I am in the process of building a 360 magnum right now that will be highly scrutinized by many people....I have the unfortunate problem of a 2002+ 4 bolt mount block so I won't have my block here for 90 days. but I should have everything ready for the build by the time it gets here. I put a wrist pin through #3 cylinder in my block two weeks ago or I would have just re-used it..... Motor was built when it failed: IndyMA-X heads w/stainless valves hughes FI airgap hughes cam hughes big gulp TB full roller valvetrain with hardened pushrods. 4 hole injectors hellcat fuel pump ARP everything (mains, rods, heads, intake) 46RE (with a few mods, mostly stock) Ran hard, right until it didn't

You should keep the timing chain cover loose then install the harmonic balancer with assembly lube on the main seal then Tighten the bolts on the cover the balancer will align the cover and main seal since magium engines don't have dowel pins

Just finished my cam/head swap. Cam, cam bearings, heads, rockers, lifters, timing set. Already had an Airgap intake, (where'd you find an M1?!) I posted on part 1 about the bearings. (Make sure you check them good!) You got lucky on the bearings. Almost everything with over a hundred thousand on it has some pretty serious wear, that I've done. Nicely done and pretty quick. Great job showing the degreeing of the cam. Time consuming but always better safe than sorry. Nice job.

@@BoostedMotorsports How did that distributor get 180* out? I have read online where this tends to happen a lot. I think the dots are suppose to be at 12 and 12 and a lot of people drop it in at 6 and 12. About to drop a .512 in mine, never done it and a tad nervous! Also, did you put anything other than some light oil on the cam prior to putting it in? Thanks! Great install and really enjoy the Magnum videos!

@@MrThomasfouraker Dots always at 6 and 12. ( unless you're using the keyways to advance or retard the cam timing) It can be out for many reasons. Usually if it's 180° out, someone didn't make absolutely sure number 1 was at TDC. Had nothing to do with the timing marks, probably more to do with thinking it was still sitting on the compression stroke. Or maybe they were looking at the marks on the damper, which many times have several marks.

Why didn't you opt for adjustable roller rockers while you had everything apart? Sure hope you guys got the correct length pushrods. I'm sure you already know but those stock heads won't last long and they're barely flow enough for any real performance for N/A applications. Looking forward to what you guys have planned next!

@Rob Roy Hey Rob, seen in another video you're in FL. I am just outside Jax myself. Marty has been good with me so far but I haven't ordered my Cam or tune from him yet. Just some items for a kegger mod and made inquiries he answered promptly. Hopefully my experience continues to be a pleasant one. He's really the only guy that I know of that is focusing on low end power with these motors which for my application is most important.

@@MrThomasfouraker Everybody has their "go to" people. Whoever you use, don't let them talk you into something you don't want or can't use. Make sure you have an idea of what you're trying to get or get to. Make sure the person you're talking to knows what you're trying to achieve and can give you a plan and advise. Building a motor for a goal is FAR better than wasting money throwing parts at it.

Went with the specs that came with the cam and heads, but that wasn't deep enough. Been readjusted twice now and still sound like crap at idle. Looks like I'm going to have to go back in and switch them for an OEM style HP set.
