5.3 swap into S13 240sx - how-to, advice, etc.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Please help support me by following me on Instagram, I would really appreciate it: @cooperc240
DUE TO THE OVERWHELMING RESPONSE, I HAVE COPY AND PASTED THE PART LIST IN THE DESCRIPTION! SEE BELOW!
I recently finished this budget 5.3 swap into my 240sx drift car, and am making this video to show how I did it, what parts I used, etc. The total swap cost $3700 running and driving, INCLUDING the cost of engine and transmission.
One thing I left out, was the starter. I used the starter from a 2008 Silverado 2500, 6.0L gas motor. It is smaller in both diameter and length than the suburban starter, and is meant for a bigger engine, so it turns over this 5.3 with no problems or hesitation at all. About $60 brand new form rockauto.com
For the flywheel/clutch/etc info, use this link:
www.v8s10.org/forum/viewtopic....
The 7th post says what parts and part numbers to use. Dont worry about the mentioned throwout bearing or starter (use above starter). Like I say in the video, use the oem S10 internal slave cylinder/bearing if using the NV3500 trans. As for the flywheel bolts, I bought a set of ARP flywheel bolts for the listed truck in the forum.
For the ECU wiring info, use this link:
lt1swap.com/
VERY detailed explanations of everything you need to do to convert your ECU and harness to "standalone" operation, with pinouts, guides to de-pinning, etc.
The motor mounts can be found on eBay, by the seller "profilesmkt". great seller, excellent work, fast shipping. He has a listing for motor mounts ONLY, as well as motor and trans mount for a T56 setup.
I hope this info helps at least 1 or 2 people, because I know it sure would have made it easier to gather info when I was researching this for 4 months.
Thanks!

I think I'm doing a good job keeping mine cheap. I got the 240 for a grand, sold ka, trans, driveshaft, rear end, wiring harness, stage 2 clutch, and lightweight flywheel for like 400. Traded an extra turbo straight across for my 5.3 with harness and ecu from a 99 Silverado. Gotta pick up a new rear end, going for a ford 9 inch. Comp. stage 2 clutch/new flywheel, the t56 and I'm making my own single piece driveshaft. And I still need to get the motor mounts and new sway bar. So 1000-400+ probably another 1500 puts me at a pretty good setup for pretty cheap. Good video for sure. Keep it up

Good video, nothing better than building it yourself, that way when something goes wrong you can fix it because you know everything about it.

And would you happen to have the exact lenght of your drive shaft (abs or non-abs diff) ? that would save me tons of time, nice build hoping to see some drifting videos soon :)

+yitzac1991 Thanks for the info, yeah I just welded and installed my diff so the only thing missing is this drive shaft, I'm going to take your advice and measure it before sending it to a drive-shaft shop. And with all the snow here in Quebec I am far from being in a rush ;) You might look at the 350z cd009 trans with the collins adapter plate when you get your heads and cam, Overall price seems to be near a used t56 and poeple tend to appreciate de cd009 trans more than the t56. Well thanks again and good luck with your build !

cooperc240 i gottcha, i had a s14 with a notchtop sr20det with gt2871r and all supporting mods before and it was pretty quick. the ls i just had built was a 5.3 bored to a ls1 bore 5.7 with t56 and i had a stage 2 cam with upgraded valve springs, high pressure oil pump and trunion upgrade and everything brand new. probally didnt have 2,000 miles when i sold it, but i never got to really get on it, needed a beefier rear end than the stock rx7 had. i plan on building something again tax time this year and i think im set on s13 chassis. what did you have to do for cross member and oil pan. forgive me if its in this video i tried to listen close while working. are you on facebook if so look me up. my name is Dusty McElroy from Greenwood Sc, my cover photo is of my old RX7. i would love to get the build list as well man. sorry to be a bother

  • @cooperc240

when you say KM, do you mean kilometers? I think it had around 200k miles, so about 322k KM. to research and gather parts, it took me maybe 4 months. the physical labor of doing everything from start to finish took me about a week. because I had never done a V8 swap before.
