los guarda barros yo los cerrara por debajo de los tubos estructurales para que diera una superficie lisa y el barro salga mas rápido y no tocara los tubos estructurales, muy buenos trabajos, saludos

Valid point, we may try moulding some plastic inner arch liners once the whole thing has been painted as the framework will catch some mud. It will save lots of pressure washing. Thanks for watching, loads more episodes to go in this series. Enjoy..! 😊

I've been dreaming of a build. This one exactly for some years. Even started a few smaller jeep builds but completed none due to no work space and lack of proper tools. I haven't seen a better build than this yet. You have the skills. Thanks for sharing.

I've been dreaming of this for some time too, finally committed to it this year. We really only get a half day per week to work on it at the moment, but all the fun is in staring and planning through the week :), it's like chewing gum for the brain 🧠 Thanks for watching 😉

It is happening, slowly yes, but it is happening! 😀 We are hoping to get a few days working at it over the festive period, so we should be able to push it along a little more. Brake and accelerator pedals, steering wheel, front wings next, it should start looking like a jeep soon. Thanks for your comments and for watching 👍

Thanks for your comment! Hopefully the suspension geometry should prevent any contact between the wheels and the body, the rear wheels shouldn't move backwards or forwards at at all but there is a fair bit of clearance. We're keeping to the (scaled) dimensions of the original Willys 🙂👍 Thanks for watching!

Thanks! It's nice to get to the body work and finally start to see the shape of the jeep. The intention was originally to make a 3/4 scale jeep (75% of full size), but the short side of the Jimny inner axle dictates the final shortened axle width (as I'm sure you know 🙂), and it's just a little too wide for 3/4 scale so we moved to 4/5 scale (80% of full size). The original Willys tub width was 57 1/8 (from the information that I can find) so 1450 in mm. Our tub is 1160mm, which should be 1450/5 × 4 🙂. What width is your tub? There's almost as much work in the editing, it's very time consuming. I can't wait to see your jeep hit the trails though 😍

@@oliverbanford yes i know! And to be able to fit to persons they can’t be mutch smaller 😅 mine is 120cm at the widest. But i have used suzuki sj axels and not sammy. The sj 410/413 are a bit smaller (narrower) than the sammy 🤠

I have seen some builds without the square tubing, just sheet metal, what's the difference? Also what's the thickness of the sheet metal?

  • @oliverbanford

You can buy prepressed tubs and body parts that are manufactured in bulk, but I believe these only come in 1/1 scale. In order to build a one off smaller scale "mini" version it's easier to build a framework and individual panels. We used 1mm mild steel sheet for most of the panels, and 1.2mm sheet steel for the floor and front wings for additional strength. Thanks for watching 😊👍

I's best to 'tack' things in place first to ensure they fit properly and to limit warping and buckling due to excessive localised heat. Once you are happy witht he fitment you can then fully 'seam' weld in place permanently. In addition, there's a certain skill involved in welding light gauge (thin) steel. It's best to 'pulse' weld and allow heat to dissipate efficiently, rather than burn through 😉. Thanks for watching, plenty more episodes to catch up on 👍
