4x4 WILDCAMPING in the Lake District - Land Rover Discovery 3 overland (ASMR)

we booked and paid for a 'wild camping with permission' pitch in a peaceful and secluded woodland with a river running through it. or so we thought. when we got there, we found a public footpath ran right through our pitch and it wasn't quite as private as we expected.
i'm sure some viewers will recognise the irony in leaving a wildcamping pitch because it wasn't very private, then going to a busy campsite... well, we just felt there's something different about being walked past on a campsite where people know for sure you're actually supposed to be there vs being the only rig in a random field getting dodgy looks from dog walkers!
DISCLAIMER: i have intentionally kept the name of the business we booked it through out of the video, as we don't feel it is really their fault. we just expected a bit more privacy than we got. their business idea is amazing and we're looking forward to trying out their many other locations in hopefully more secluded locations.

My dad used to have a Discovery 3 when I was a kid, and I thought it was a very nice car indeed. Ours was a 2005 (55-reg) HSE model with the 2.7-litre TDV6 diesel paired with the 6-speed automatic, and it was finished in a dark metallic blue (called Buckingham Blue) with the 'Alpaca' cream leather interior, which looked really nice. It was September 2010, and I remember eagerly awaiting the moment when my dad would pull up onto our driveway in it, and when I saw PN55TZH pulling onto our driveway for the first time, I immediately went outside to have a look around it, and I remember being very impressed by what I saw. Being the HSE model, it was fully loaded with all the bells and whistles, some of which we’d never had on any car we’d ever owned before, including tri-zone climate control, heated front & rear seats, rear audio controls, etc, which 10-year-old me thought was very impressive indeed. Plus, its air suspension made it a very comfortable car to travel in - as Jeremy Clarkson said in his Discovery 3 review back in Series 5 of UK Top Gear to describe the ride quality, "it doesn't go over bumps, it just flattens them." Even to this day, I consider it to be one of my favourite cars we've had out of all the cars my family has ever owned so far.

Hi, I’m looking at getting a D4 as we have 5 kids and 2 dogs! We would love to get out like this as we love camping too. Love any pointers you may have. Duly subscribed!

wow, busy house!!! pointers - full service history essential, value mileage over actual age, don’t blow your whole budget on the car, save a couple £k for the repairs it will definitely need and be prepared to love it like your 6th child.

Love the rig. May I ask you how the checkered plate on the bonnet is fitted? Is it glued or riveted?

@@kamrankp85 yeah, you can walk on them. that’s the main reason i installed them tbh, i use them to stand on the bonnet/hood while accessing the front of the roof rack. i just step from the front tyre on to them and they hold my weight fine.

Great set up. I live in NZ and would love a discovery for camping trips. The reliability issues scare me tho. How have you found it? Great video btw... subbed.

oh mate, i would give an arm to live in NZ 😂 i wouldn’t let reliability put you off. i’ve had mine 2 years and the most expensive repair i’ve had is a wheel bearing. in fact, i’ve only had that, a wiper motor and a brake calliper to replace other than usual service fluids etc. if you can find one that’s been looked after, you can’t go wrong. amazing vehicles!

Great video, I just think the title is misleading, I didn’t see any wild camping.

fair point, i guess it should say ‘attempted wild camping’. i did try and back it up with ‘gone wrong’ in the thumbnail and explaining it all in the description, but i guess i’m just a clickbaiter at heart

haha. started talking more in recent videos tbh, but i actually prefer watching silent ones like go4x4 and kraig adams, so that’s what i started doing originally!
