4x4 Transfer Case Input Seal Replacement

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

#4WheelDrive #TransferCase #AutoRepair
An easy repair for either preventative maintenance or otherwise.
If ever you have your transfer case out for any reason, it’s always a good idea to change the input seal.
This particular transfer case is out of a 2014 GMC Z71 4x4

    When I changed the seal on mine I went the long way around the barn and pulled the retainer Wish i had seen your method first. I'm gonna try this on my S-10 since the retainer is flush with the with the face of the transfer case and has a butt load of black RTV holding it in place. I'm thinking nothing short of C4 is gonna get that plate outta there. Thanks for a great how to.

    FYI, that is a pvc slip joint or compression coupling, repair coupling, or dresser coupling, called by multiple names just to make it more difficult lol, made in multiple sizes and sold at most box stores or your local plumbing wholesaler...

    Clever way to get the seal out-also great idea of using the pvc pipe to tap with the end fitting to make sure you have a flat surface to tap in the new seal.

    Replacing my 4l60e, noticed it's leaking big time right where the transfer case and tranny connect and old trans lost a majority of it's fluid there, soaked, do you think the paper type gasket could be the culprit? Or would the seal your replacing here be more likely the problem?

  • @EJsGuitars

    @EJsGuitars

    2 жыл бұрын

    If the transfer case is over full the the front input seal is bad. But that wouldn’t cause an external leak. The gasket is most likely the issue

    @@EJsGuitars the transfer case was checked and had normal amount definitely not overfilled. Overtime my truck was leaking there eventually driving it said transmission was hot and I lost 3rd and 4th and looked underneath and it was soaked right where they meet up and my trans was about out of fluid. Would you recommend going with the gasket or something like Rtv ultra grey or something rather? Just want to seal it up properly so I don't run into this problem with the new transmission

  • @EJsGuitars

    Gasket only. Gasket is best, and do not add silicone to the gasket. You can use silicone by itself but the gasket is the best option

    @@EJsGuitars Thanks for the response. I figured it would be one or the other. Will probably get the gasket if the local auto parts store has it, if not silicone it is! Appreciate it. First time attempt tackling this type of job.
