4th Order Box Build for a Single 10”RF

Ойын-сауық

This is my first build of this type. Very happy with how it tuned out. Very good output from such a small sub and very little power. It’s a free build for my sister. I think she’ll love it 😁 Enjoy!

    Quick question boss. I'm going to be building a box with a little Aeroport tube. Now does the position of the sub and port matter in terms of which way they're facing? And where should the port be placed relative to where the sub is. Thanks

  • @210Designs

    @210Designs

    5 жыл бұрын

    Alexo - You can position the sub/aero port where you like, as long as they do not touch in the inside. You can have them in the same side or opposite sides. I would recommend at least 3”-4” clearance, off the port loading wall. (Don’t want the port facing up against an outer wall). Needs to breathe.

    I would like a custom box for a Rockford Fosgate P2 10" subwoofer. I have a Nissan hardbody 4x4 extra cab. I want to have a custom box made because I'm not satisfied with just sticking a pre-made cube box 16"×12×15" and just stick it back behind my passenger seat. I want a custom box made that, if possible, is not as high, and runs almost the whole width of the back area behind my seats. The reason?... so that the proper volume needed for the amount of square inches is the same, but it's lower going all the way across the back area so I can still have storage space back there. Can this be done?

    Question. If you pause at 2:39 when it pans looking though the subwoofer baffle hole.. I noticed there is a air gap on the top and bottom of the Port where it would otherwise seem to need to touch off the interior walls of the box.. Did you do that on purpose to allow for more flow. Or was that piece just cut a little narrow for the box? I hope I am explaining it clear enough. It doesn't seem like the port was cut to the same width as the baffle for the sub. (Not to include the normal gap on the painted end to feed into the exiting port.) I really want to try and recreate this box while I am on leave. The 35.5" width is a great starting point. I am just a little perplexed at the interior port wall top and bottom gap that I see when looking through the subwoofer mounting baffle.

  • @210Designs

    @210Designs

    2 жыл бұрын

    After rewatching that section a few times, I see what turns talking about. The reason it looks like there is a gap at the top and bottom, is because of paint over spray. I didn’t mask off correctly back then 🤷🏽‍♂️ So there isn’t gaps in those areas. Customer is still using this enclosure on his home stereo system 👌🏽

    I usually just make a ported box. I'm thinking about making a 4th order box and from what I understand the box should be smaller than a ported box. You speaker spec for a ported box is 1.4 cu ft. so it's like 20x12x14 with 3/4 in thick and 3x8 for the port. How do you calculate for the extra chamber?

Need to know what the required net air space is for a sealed. This will let your know what the ported net air space should be. This box is a 2:1 ratio (sealed chamber 1cf and ported 2cf). Sealed chamber will cover the lower frequencies. Tune the ported chamber higher (40-50hz) to cover the higher frequencies. This box turned out very nice for me. Hope this information helps 👌🏾

    @@210Designs Magnat is a german brand and back then it was popular in car audio competitions now they are doing other types of speakers. The only way for me to see if some data or numbers ar written on the sub itself is to open the box. I did a 1:1 ratio. If I compare this sub with a shitty one from pioneer home theater.. The pioneer one has a much lower sound in movie effects but the Magnat one is making my windows and door shaking when i listen music. I would love to get something in between of those two

    Okay now that I just checked out the sealed box specs dimension and they are 12"x14"x9.25" for .59 cu. ft. is that the other dimension you used? If so, I'm stumped. 12volt.com doesn't' really explain it and I'm taking the pictures as reality. I know that each speakers have their own specs. help me out.

    Steve H - What I did for this box was: Found our what the manufacturer recommended for sealed and ported. Took those two numbers and measured out a sealed and ported box. (based on the HxWxD available in the area I was putting the box). Then I subtracted .75 from the overall width. Now I had my total WxHxD of both enclosures together. I hope this helps. If not, let me know. I may be misunderstanding your question bro 👌🏾

    What are the advantages of a 4th Order vs just ported??

  • @210Designs

    Joseph Wright - A lot of people like ported, because of the wider frequency bandwidth and ability to dial the subwoofer in more. Plus it’s a bit more efficient. However, bandpass/forth orders are very unforgiving if build incorrectly. I personally like ported. Easier to build and you can get loud very quickly.

    6 жыл бұрын

    Bj Hammon I was just assuming, it looks very small from the video. For a 4th order your port area should be close to half of your cone area, but bigger than what a ported box recommends. The reason port is bigger in bandpasses because all the sound is coming from inside the box, as opposed to ported boxes where only the back of the cone is letting the sound out of the port, the front of the cone is radiating outside the box into the area. With bandpasses, your cone is fully enclosed inside a box, so all your sound is coming from one area

If you could post me a link, explaining the correct way to construct a 4th order, as well as documentation stating this, I’d greatly appreciate that bro. So many people give their own interpretations on how things should be done, but I’m not interested in that. Im always looking to gain knowledge and build better boxes. Other than that, box tested great. Played country, hip/hip, rock, classical and jazz through it, with no issues. Hit every note, gets loud and low 🤙🏾 Thanks for you info tho and I’ll await to hear back from you.

    Bj Hammon I don’t have a link I can find because the post was taken down but from what I can tell you, your sealed chamber size looks good, I’ve never built anything for 10’s but I’ve built a 4th order for a single 12 before. The 12’s like 1-1.3 cubes per sub on the sealed section while 15’s like 1.8-2.0 cubes per sub. The ported section should be big enough to allow proper port area and tuning, and that should be close to half of cone area. You can always shrink the port slowly to find the sweet spot which most people do, and tuning should always be from 40ish to 50 if possible, the closer you tune the front chamber to the sealed chamber resonance the louder you will get
