I love using faux flowers in my home as well because they never die! But I do love planting outside and I don't have much of a green thumb either, but I watched my grandmother (who excelled in gardening) and learned a little from her. It wasn't until I was in my early 30's that I really started to appreciate how working in my yard really brought me peace and if something doesn't work, I just move it around to a spot where it does better. Also, the fur kids looked like they were ready for a nice lunch for the 4th :)
