I think getting rid of this ride is a big mistake. I think they should have updated it if they were going to do anything to it. This is always my favorite ride.

I loathe Disney for getting rid of this. It’s unforgivable. This had to be one of the most underrated concepts for a ride. I love movies so much. And feeling like you’re there is insane.

I remember riding this ride back in 2011, when I last went to.. Walt Disney World Resort! This was ALWAYS my favorite scene on The Great Movie Ride! And it was the closest thing you can get to being in the land of OZ!! (Wizard OF OZ) I can't believe the ride is NOT there anymore!!😩💓💖

When I was younger like 17-this ride BLEW my mind. As an aspiring filmmaker, it was incredible. The Alien section was my fav since it's one of my fav movies of all time.

I went on this ride before I watched the movie. The original narration (before the updates with TCM) truly made me scared to watch the movie, "This is Alien. You are with Sigourney Weaver aboard the spaceship Nostromo. Something has gone wrong - one-by-one the crew has vanished. And somewhere in the ship, a terrifying creature waits to claim its next victim."

Fun fact, they originally got the rights to Alien for the Alien Encounters ride, but decided they didn't want to base the ride off an R-rated film, so they decided to include the Alien scene in this ride so the rights wouldn't go to waste. And it turned out to be the most memorable part of the ride. "that's gotta be the ugliest looking horse I've EVER seen"

Disney should've given Runaway Railway it's own ride building. This was a classic attraction and perfect fit for the theme of the park.

The "Alien" bit of this used to scare the absolute crap outta me when I was little.

This made me super emotional for me for some reason. Maybe because this was Disney at its best in making a good detailed ride , homage to the Golden Age of Hollywood, and the contribution with TCM and the great and late host Robert Osbourne! This was a favorite childhood memory riding this and this ride will be missed and remembered! I wish the new Mickey ride will have good luck and capture the imagination of the old and new generation! I remember my grandmother adoring this ride, and she always made a point of us going on it whenever we went to MGM/Hollywood Studios. These were *her* films. Things she grew up with and still enjoyed. So of course she loved it! By contrast, I dreaded getting dragged onto it as a young kid. It felt so long and slow, with so much fluff between the stuff I actually recognized, and the gangster/cowboy scene and their death scene always freaked me out. After my grandma passed in 2006, my family still made a point to go on the ride whenever we were at the park to honor her memory, and I gained an appreciation for it. I was a teen by that point and had seen more of the movies showcased in the ride, and that made me understand the ride for the loving tribute that it was. I'm sad that I'll never get to experience it in person again if I ever get back to WDW. It felt like losing a bit more of my grandmother when it closed. Thanks for preserving the ride's memory.

I think Disney should have like a rogues gallery park that would have all of the old rides that were taken down or replaced

genuinely sad that they closed this, it is one of my fondest memories and frankly i think it was the most unique ride EVER. the use of real actors added so much to the ride and frankly i dont think anything can compare to it

There's a smell at the alien part. I love it and I randomly smell it sometimes.

That smell is hydraulic fluid. It’s used on the alien in the ceiling. It smells amazing

All the rides in WDW have distinct smells and its great!

The amount of work and energy the cast members put into this ride is crazy. They were so dedicated, it was so cool. I remember every little moment of this ride it was the best ride ever. I wish they added on to it instead of removing it. The things they could do with the alien's scence, it would be terrifying.

I just found out this ride was closed down and I’m so heartbroken because this was such a fun ride just because of the experience. What also breaks my heart is that a generation will go without having ridden this calm and enjoyable ride

Dude I was 4 and I thought my parents and I were legit being kidnapped lol.

This attraction makes me tear up for my passion for film. I grew up watching TCM and their 100 Years of Movies and other compilations brings me so much joy. Robert Osborne ranks among my favorite people. I was lucky enough to see him live at the Hollywood Bowl for Music Under the Stars, where the LA Phil played scores from Hollywood's famous films. It was an unforgettable night. Thank you for this video!

I remember this ride when I was kid and realizing at the end how much I love film. How magical films really are

It feels so weird now that it's replacement is open, it's almost like a horizons at Epcot. So happy to have been able to experience it many times in person!

Awww, Horizons! Don't remind us. All of these great rides that were the real magic of Disney theme park imagineering. It's like they are scrubbing my childhood memories and replacing it with junk food amusement rides.

I had the amazing pleasure of being cast in the role of tour guide at The Great Movie Ride in 2014 (before TCM ruined the ride and the tour guides gave the whole show) and I cannot ever explain how much I miss my Movie Ride and fellow cast members. Every day was so much fun and my GMR family was my world. My heart aches for the loss of my love. Thank you for this :)

I went in 2014 and the girl that did our tour was incredible! When she came back in and took back over the show everyone clapped and cheered and it really felt like something had happened. Nothing against the tour guide in this show, I know how entertainment is. Sometimes the energy just isn't there. Thanks for makin Disney World run for the rest of us for a while!

This ride basically started my love of movies. Watching that Alien trailer in the queue when I was a small child was on one hand terrifying and on the other had me completely fascinated. I wonder how many kids will miss out on that same experience now that its gone :( replaced by some dime a dozen kiddie ride

I will miss this ride. I wish I had the chance to get on it one last time when I was at Disney earlier this year. Problem was that there were lines everywhere so it cut down on how much I could do. I digress. This ride was the heart and soul of the park. It was fantastically done. The cast member performances ranged from unenthusiastic and cheesy, to total ham. And I loved it each time. It actually got me into watching a few of these old movies too. Now, they will tear it down for something new....a Mickey Mouse theme ride. Which while, it makes total sense to put in a Mickey ride, it's done in that god-awful animation they have now. It's saddening. I suppose now, I need to watch all the movies used in this ride. Just to get a sense of the full scope of it.

It takes away from the fact that the entire park is supposed to be a tribute to the golden age of cinema

This closed 4 months before my last Disney visit, I wish I got to ride it one last time. Back in 2012 this was the ride that inspired 15 year old me to explore the world of film.

I have been to Disney over 100 times and if they get rid of any more classics especially Carousel of Progress than I am out.

They could never take away the carousel of progress it has a lot of historical significance

22:31 when Humphrey was at the end of his Casablanca bit and LOOKED at the camera and NODDED I was filled with so much emotion. I had never noticed it before, but the movie is very special to me as well. So right now I'm crying tears of happiness for classic movies and actors and actresses... what's new with you? 😭❤

Had a bout of nostalgia tonight and wanted to watch this. I figured your version would be full of minute details that we didn’t always see, and I was right. Thank you for your attention to detail and what looks like multiple ride throughs to get the best angles. I’ll forever treasure this ride.

I can’t believe this is gone!! I’ll always remember riding this as a kid, incredible. I wish I would have gone to Disney world one more time before this closed.

Although this ride is a classic, the replacement is incredible and very high-tech. I highly enjoyed it!

Wow, I never thought I'd see a xenomorph at Disney World

I never got the chance to go on this ride and after watching this video, I am CONVINCED this would have been my favorite ride of all time!

This was my mother's favorite ride. She was very disappointed to hear it closed.

I LOVE when they ham it up! Its so funny! I really wish I could have ridden this one last time as an adult having seen all these movies. It's a big shame that its not there anymore! BRING IT BACK!!

I totally agree, I rode it quite a few times and loved every minute of it, they NEVER should have gotten rid of it, such fools

This ride was a MASTERPIECE it's such a shame that it's not still around!

This makes me want to cry.

Oh my goodness, Bandit started singing the "Blood on the Saddle" song from Country Bear Jamboree during the Indy part!!!! I will forever miss this incredible attraction and the wonderful guides that truly made the experience.

28:22 It's funny that they used this scene in the comedy section because it was supposed to be a very serious moment, but nowadays it's seen as funny and completely out of nowhere

I wish they would of just updated the ride and kept it. This ride introduced me to so many great films

I was so excited to have just discovered this ride! I am 24 and this appeals to me and brings me to tears with sentimentality. I love old movies and knew All these songs. Maybe it’s a rarity to find someone my age who knows them, but I know what these movies added to my life and it is a tragedy to take away educational/fun ways to show them to the next generation. I was excited to just find this ride, and heartbroken to discover I’ll never ever ride it.

Thank God for this video - I was able to revisit my childhood memories of going on this ride way back in the 90s, even though the ride is closed now. Fantastic. Thank you so much!

This was my favorite ride I think last time I went to Disney every body was telling me it closed but I had to see it for my self I was devestated that it was gone

As a tribute to the “Great Movie Ride”, Macy’s did a pretty good job of doing the 4th of July Fireworks from NYC where the fireworks were set off in Lower Manhattan and on the Brooklyn Bridge. The music for the show featured a medley of songs from classic Hollywood films like “The Wizard of Oz”, “Superman”, “Star Wars”, “Gone With the Wind”, “Casablanca”, and more. It was a great show, and a tribute to the “Great Movie Ride” as well.

Great job. This totally captures the experience.

If you remember in 1989 when the ride opened, foot light parade had matinance problems.the problems we're fixed with a clear wall built in front of it. As for the rest of the ride, the animatronics we're getting over dated and would take over 500 million dollars to have refurbished. Disney felt as if they should play it safe and just create a new ride that would cost only 100 million.

This was my favorite ride as a kid and I only started to appreciate it more and more as I got older. So sad it’s gone, but grateful for it getting me into movies and video editing (courtesy of the legendary movie montage at the end). I always wish they would have maybe updated the movie scenes instead of taking it all down. Always had fun brainstorming what more recent film would replace each genre scene. So... MGM's entire theme is the movie industry... And they get rid of the central ride... Whose theme is the movie industry...

Just came back from Disney world and was sad that this ride was gone! I last visited mid 90's and remember the Alien section in this ride so vividly as a kid which scared the hell out of me lol. Alien's was one of my favorite movies though and i was really hoping to experience it again as an adult with my wife :( Glad this recording is here to remember it by.

Twisty bigmike88 they had the hat, glasses and gloves worn by Christopher Lloyd as Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit in the prop lineup towards the end

Great time to be in Disney World, almost no crowds.

I really miss this ride

Although the ride left WDW in 2017 I think the last time I rode it was 2014 ish (I was 11) and still really remember this ride as well as disneys Hollywood studios backlot tour sort of ride. Very sad both are no longer there.

I miss this ride so much. It was perhaps my #1 favorite ride in all of WDW. RIP to the truly GREAT Movie Ride.😢
