4K Summer trekking in Shiga Kogen: 15 superb mountain views / Nagano, Japan

Shiga Kogen is a mountain resort area located in northeastern Nagano Prefecture. The vast area is dotted with numerous ponds, marshes, and high-rise wetlands. The area is popular as a summer resort and is visited by many hikers.
In this video, we will introduce the highlights of Shiga Kogen, using a map, and guide you to the most scenic trekking courses recommended for summer! In particular, don't miss the spectacular view from "Mt. Shiga," which appears in the latter half of the video!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Contents of the video
(1) Ichinuma
Ichinuma is the first swamp seen after entering the Shiga Kogen Plateau from the Nagano Prefecture side on the national road. Located at an elevation of 1,460 m, Ichinuma is also home to lovely water lilies in summer.
(2) Maruike Pond
Maruike Pond is located near Ichinuma Pond at an elevation of about 1500 m. Boating can be enjoyed here, and it is adjacent to lodging facilities and a ski resort.
(3) Biwa Pond
Biwa Pond is the second largest pond in Shiga Kogen and is located at an altitude of 1450 m. A trekking course that circles around Biwa Pond has been developed.
Next, we will show you the "Nature Exploration Course" walking from Nagaike Pond to Kido Pond!
(4) Nagaike Pond
Nagaike Pond is the third largest pond in Shiga Kogen, located at an altitude of 1584 m. There is a convenient parking lot along the Shiga-Kusatsu Road (National Road 292).
(5) Misuma Pond
Misuma Pond lies behind Nagaike Pond and is located at an elevation of 1630 m. Its name comes from its triangular shape.
(6) Tanohara Marshland
Tanohara Marshland is a high-altitude marshland that stretches across the national road from Misuma Pond, and a walking trail has been developed to pass through the marshland.
(7) Kido Pond
Kido Pond is a 1620-meter-high pond just south of Tanohara Marsh, with a walking trail that circles the pond and a ryokan (Japanese-style inn) by the lake.
Next is the most popular "Pond Tour Course" in Shiga Kogen! In this video, we will introduce a greedy route that also includes climbing Mt. Shiga !
(8) Maeyama Summer Lift
Maeyama Summer Lift along the Shiga-Kusatsu road (National road 292) will take you to the top of Maeyama (1810m above sea level) in about 5 minutes.
(9) Maeyama Marshland
A high-altitude marshland (Maeyama Marsh) stretches around the summit of Maeyama, where cotton grass and various alpine plants can be seen in every season.
(10) Shibuike Pond
After a 5-minute walk through the Maeyama Marsh, Shibuike Pond comes into view. Shibuike Pond has "floating islands" that slowly drift on the surface of the water.
(11) 48 Ponds
Located at an elevation of 1,880 meters, 48 Ponds is the collective name for a high-altitude marshland and ponds of various sizes scattered throughout the marshland.
(12) Shigayama Trail (Mt. Shiga)
Mt. Shiga is one of the mountains that make up the Shiga Kogen Plateau and rises to an elevation of 2,035 m.
(13) Onuma Pond
Located at an elevation of 1694 m, Onuma Pond is the largest pond in Shiga Kogen, with a circumference of 5 km and a depth of 26 m. Onuma Pond was formed when a river was choked by a lava flow from Mt.
Shiga.
(14) Yokoteyama Drive-in
Mt. Yokote (elevation 2307 m) is the second highest mountain in Shiga Kogen, but you can easily climb to the summit using the sky-lift, etc., and enjoy a panoramic view of the Northern Alps and other mountains from the summit park.
Yokoteyama Drive-in, where you can climb Mt. Yokote by riding the moving walkway "Sky Lator." The parking lot of the drive-in serves as an observation deck.
(15) Sunset at Yokoteyama Drive-in
Yokoteyama has been selected as one of the "100 Best Sunset Points in Shinshu," and the Yokoteyama Drive-in is also recommended as a sunset point.
Shiga Kogen is a highland resort where you can enjoy spectacular mountain views!

Thank you for watching the video. Summers in Japan are very hot, but in the inland highlands, the climate is relatively cool due to the high altitude. In winter, the area is covered with snow and skiing can be enjoyed, but in summer, the alpine flora is so thick that you can enjoy the scenery as if you are in a paradise in the sky. The lakes and marshes in the deep forests are especially mysterious!
