They were destined to be. If 1 of the members was different, then they wouldn't be the Mamamoo that we now know and love so much.

i will never understand why RBW did that for 9 years man! you have 4 vocalist who are multitalented and you constricted the growth of one of them? seriously for what? Byulie's voice is so fucking unique that when people hear her, they immediately know its her man! seriously the Emperor has to win this, she's so damn good!

to be fair.. we wont get the mamamoo we love today without that decision as well. we wouldnt get that unique mamamoo music, we wont get one of the best korean female rappers in kpop and we definitely wont get the highest credited female artist in kpop. also, we dont get to see this incredible journey of seeing her constantly evolving and now tackling singing again in a more serious manner. its 9 years ago.. you cant change the past, but we can all enjoy the future.

i dont think RBW constricted moonbyul's growth. i understand it seems unfair to suddenly change her "role" in mmm to rap, especially because she auditioned and trained to be vocalist. but she has been given a lot of work; she writes everything, and she participated in everything along with the rest of the members. we wouldnt have the mmm that we have today without this sudden change of lane. she finally found her singing style and she has done that in her solo works too. i just hope she is happy with how things turned out for her, because that's all that matters.

RBW makes a lot of questionable decisions, but the switch of Moonbyul from vocalist is not one of them. Personally, her solo debut effort Eclipse, which was released years after her group debut, was mere adequate, at best, and it was clear her vocal skills was last in her group. Nowadays, however, she is definitely on par with her other three mates, because she sounds great no matter what the song is. It is clear she never gave up and continued to improve her skills, and her journey of growth had been a treat for fans to witness. All the accolades she has received thus far are just the fruits of her labour that she richly deserves. Plus, if Moonbyul stayed as a vocalist, she will just be dragged as the weak link of the group and be seen as a hanger-on, because objectively, Solar, Hwasa and Wheein are just on another level even from their debut days. It really is for the best, because she became a great rapper and a prolific song-writer.

That guy gave really good advice. Byul really changes her hand placement on the mic. Her soft broken notes at the end of the song were also some of my faves from her.

It is hard to sing with so much emotion and Moonbyul delivered 100% emotions and vocal skill in this performance

Actually, Byul's been taking vocal lessons since 2021! She mentioned it on a YKBK VLive and even Solar was surprised. She really wants to sing more for us MooMoos and I'm hapoy she gets to showcase her improvements to the general public as well! *Edit:* Singer Moobyul usually shows up for solo songs and OSTs, so I hope people would check those out and support her solo work!

The fact that Byul's Refuge reminds me so much of how immersed I felt when listening to Hyunkyu singing Don't Worry in Sing Again is a testament in itself on how well Byul has moved everyone with this stage!!

Thank you for showing interest in Moonbyul!! She's an amazing vocalist who is really talented in showing the story of a song through the emotions in her voice when she sings. May I suggest you check out Moonbyul's covers as well as her most recent EP, 6equence? 6equence is a 6 song album (6 songs + 1 Eng version of the title song), it tells a full story just like a movie. Showing from the start of a love at first sight, through passion, tension, till the fallout and sadness of the love lost. Moonbyul was involved in the lyrics writing for most of the songs in this album (all songs except for the title track Lunatic). Also, all the songs in 6equence can be found as an MV or live performance video on the official MAMAMOO channel. :)

I feel the words to use would be more of.. don't focus so much and the skills and techniques of singing well, because sometimes the little mistakes like broken voice and off tones display more emotions than when you sing perfectly as people might feel you're only concentrated on making the song perfect and it would become technical singing. I think that's what you're trying to say right? 😁🥰

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you don’t become the rapper of a 4-member group renowned for their vocals without being able to sing well. It felt practically unfair to have her in the show. All the girls had comparable vocals and performed very well, but the advantages Moonbyul had as a member of Mamamoo and under RBW are immense. She said that she hasn’t used her vocal training in nine years, but I don’t think that’s entirely true. Being the rapper of a vocal group, Byul has become likely the only person who can convincingly rap on a ballad and actually add something to the song. That requires no small level of musicality, lyricality, rhythm, and tune. I’m just hoping this competition has awoken Singer Byul enough to get some recordings outta her soon.

She’s originally a vocalist, she went to SM academy, she sings in her solo albums. She was forced to be a rapper to debut. Trained for a short time to be a rapper and excelled at that. But being a singer will always be her dream.
