Monticchiello is an ancient village that has managed to still preserve an authentic beauty, it is located in the heart of the Val d'Orcia, in the municipality of Pienza.
The current structure of the village dates back to around 1200, with the walls, the keep and the church.
From Montepulciano you can reach Monticchiello along the famous avenue with cypresses.

✱🎭 Monticchiello is known for its so-called "poor" theater in which all the inhabitants are authors / actors which takes place in the summer, outdoors every year for over 50 years.
Not having a theater, the community of Monticchiello decided to aggregate around an idea of theater in the square: a form of show that will soon become an attempt at collective and ideal reconstruction of the meaning of their lives.
✱ 🏳️‍🌈On 6 April 1944 Monticchiello was the scene of an important event of the Resistance: the so-called "Battle of Monticchiello". A group of 70 partisans resisted fighting 450 Republican soldiers, managing to put them to flight. During the battle, Mario Mencatelli, who was later awarded the gold medal for military valor to memory, and Marino Cappelli, captured by the fascists and killed instantly, lost their lives.The next day a German roundup was miraculously avoided
