私は地方の変わりゆく街の車窓の風景を見るのが好きです。今の広島を見てると、これが原爆を落とされた街なのかと、その復興ぶりに驚かされます。 I was really surprised to see the quickly reconstructed city of Hiroshima after being destroyed by the atomic bombing in the world war II.

Hiroshima is one of the most vibrant cities in Japan, but it is little known. Redevelopment around Hiroshima Station is currently underway, and once completed, it will be one of the largest in Japan. The streetcar runs directly on the second floor of the station, and the expressway from Hiroshima Airport extends to the station. The newest huge football stadium is under construction near the Peace Park.

The thing is that by that time, basically every Japanese city had been destroyed. As well as that, more people actually died in an air strike in Tokyo than in Hiroshima when the bomb was dropped. After the war, every major Japanese city had to be rebuilt almost from scratch. Some cities were obviously worse off than others but Hiroshima and Nagasaki used to be (Hiroshima still is) some of the biggest cities in Japan so people obviously wanted to rebuild them as well. Btw, Nagasaki isn't that big anymore because they kinda ran out of space to build. In fact, Nagasaki used to be a really important city before the Meiji restoration. Nowadays, it's just an average city

There would be no way to tell you weren't in an American city other than the language signs, driving on the left side of the street, and that the newer buildings tend to seem more bland than in the USA. Newer buildings in the USA are often very flashy with lots of glass and decorative embellishments to impress people. Often times this is done with different paint colors to make the exterior, especially highrise apartment buildings, more attractive. Every building in the video seemed a very bland grey or beige color. Come on, Japan. Get out the paint! Also, why did so many buildings have outdoor stairs? You would not very often find this in the USA. The stairs in a highrise are incorporated into the building, not stuck on the outside. This may reflect the climate, which is often brutally cold and icy in the winter in large portions of the USA, so outside stairs would be very dangerous.

  • @eclipse4995

Buildings in Japan are generally not very ornate. It is no exception in Tokyo which is the largest city in Japan, where there are few brilliant windows found in skyscrapers in other Asian countries. Also, the stairs outside the building are for evacuation purposes. Japanese law stipulates three staircases, indoor evacuation stairs (屋内避難階段), outdoor evacuation stairs (屋外避難階段), and special evacuation stairs (特別避難階段). In Japan, it is strictly prescribed what kind of stairs should be installed and in what form so that people can evacuate in case of fire or earthquake.
