    Yep, I'm addicted too)) Best YT channel for me personally. @Skylite Productions , got a quick question for you - do you save KML track files of your flights from FR24? That would be a great addition to your extensive flight logbook! Sometimes I find myself following your videos with the Playback flight feature of FR24 of your flight, to search for places which are familiar to me or I have been to.

    Wow. That's some serious 717 engine buzz and power there. It's so loud that I can't hear the captain speaking. :) It looks so much warmer there. We're having a rain/snow mix right now.

    It does indeed look so much warmer there. We're getting thunderstorms here right now. We had some hail earlier with it. Nothing like having to clear a path to the storm shelter in the garage on March 2nd haha.

    Great video as always! It’s been years the last time visited Maui. Nice views flying past the other islands . Just curious, do you plan your flights based on time of day? Notice the lighting on your videos is really good and weather is usually very nice especially when flying to Hawaiian islands. Still amazes me how you can record the flight from take off to landing in one take. 👍💯

  • @sla31

    Thanks my friend. To answer your question, yes. I do often plan my flights based on the time of day. Not always, as sometimes I just need to get somewhere or it's a special flight and I have no control over the timing. But, when I can control that, I do my best to try to fly when the lighting and weather will be best. Of course, you know what they say about the best laid plans... It doesn't always work out, but when that happens it's usually out of my control anyway. I use several different tools to determine what side of the plane to sit on, where the sun will be in the sky relative to the most likely flight path, and I even keep track of sunrise and sunset times to try to get as many flights in during daylight hours as possible. When other people ask me about my methods, they're often surprised to learn just how much pre-planning is done. I've also scrapped entire trips before because something like the weather was going to be cruddy. So, I really do appreciate everyone who takes the time to watch, comment, like and subscribe. There's a lot more work that goes into making all of this content than just flying all over and sticking a camera in the window.

    @@sla31 All your planning and prep work has certainly worked out for you and it clearly shows in the high quality videos. Studying the flight path, weather, seat assignment, and sun?? This explains why the lighting and weather always looks so good! You have making these flight videos down to a science. Thank you for sharing and happy flying!

    There are still rumours going around here in Europe that Hawaiian cancelled it's 787-9 order from 2012 ( ! ) and switched it to the A 330-8. I hope it's not just a rumour.....

  • @sla31

    @sla31

    Жыл бұрын

    Hmmm. I had not heard that. That would be very interesting. I always thought it was odd Hawaiian went with the 787-9 anyway considering they have a large Airbus fleet. And their 717's are very old now, so they'll be needing replaced soon too.

    @@sla31 As soon an airline orders an Airbus we get to know it. We even can see which plane has been delivered or been picked up by the customer. Great advantage when you work in that business. For Hawaiian i would recomend the A 220-100. Perfect plane for hopping from island to island. With that beautiful livery it would be the most beautiful small Bussy ever.

    Great fly! Other than Tulsa and Oklahoma City, do you also drive to the airport in St Louis from your hometown?

  • @sla31

    @sla31

    Жыл бұрын

    The airports that I consider "home" airports in order of how close they are to me are: Joplin Regional Airport - 20m Tulsa International Airport - 1h 20m Springfield-Branson National Airport - 1h 30m Northwest Arkansas National Airport - 1h 40m Kansas City International Airport - 2h 40m Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport - 2h 50m Oklahoma City and St. Louis are 3h 50m and 4h 50m away so I do not consider them home airports and I won't drive to them. St. Louis has flights from Tulsa and Kansas City, so I'd just fly.

    @@sla31 Remember I said about Knoxville (TYS) to Las Vegas (LAS) for spring break? Well I cancelled that because I booked Atlanta (ATL) to Las Vegas (LAS) instead due to airfare being cheaper, the downside is that I have to drive from Knoxville to Atlanta, which is about 3 hrs and 30 mins and the flight leaves 7:15AM EST. So I have to drive there afternoon before my flight leaves next morning. The flight is Frontier which cost $367 for roundtrip vs the $487 from TYS to LAS Allegiant roundtrip flight.

    What do you think would be the best replacement for the 717? I feel that the new e190 may be a great fit as it is small, cheaper than a220, fuel efficient, and more readily available. and the a220 wouldn't have any advantages as it is not ETOPs certified. What do you think?

  • @sla31

    @sla31

    Жыл бұрын

    Well, I've heard that Hawaiian is heavily looking at the A220 to replace their 717 fleet. ETOPS isn't really a concern because they wouldn't be using them to fly to the mainland anyway. So they wouldn't need that certification. The E190-E2 would also be an interesting choice, but with Hawaiian so heavily invested in the A321NEO and A330 I think it's unlikely they pick the Embraer option. As cool as it would be to see that.

  • @sla31

    Flaps were set at 6:37. The first flap setting on the 717 is only 5 degrees and from above the wing it can be easy to miss them being set. But if you watch at 6:37 you can see them get set.
