    Ok this is by far the best air to air demo I've seen. I love how the sabre came right up from behind and then cut across the migs tail for the quick kill. That was really cool to watch these two classics maneuver. Thumbs up!

    Great video and great sound of old fighters! I live never saw the flying MIG-15 or MIG 17. In the childhood, have us in pioneer camp stood MIG-17 on pedestal. We were going to the air base, there were armed with MIG-21 and MIG-23, conducted a tour, we saw the takeoffs and landings of these aircraft, we were allowed to sit in the cockpit! It was unforgettable!

    Olli - What a special 'dogfight doubles' that was. Great filming in challenging weather, light and sound conditions (sad to hear that Zeltweg also has to background with unwanted music!). Would be great to see them over in the UK. I like the way you pan back to show the aircraft flying over the high ground. You introduce the F-86, but whose is the Mig please? Great work as always. A pity the 'thumbs down' giver wasn't 'brave' enough to say what or why they didn't like? (but who cares - 1 out of 23+ is irrelevant!). Steve.

    This was a purely EXCELLENT VIDEO! I never thought that I would have the opportunity to see a sight like this as it would have been now nearly 70 years ago. Rarely do you see Jet Warbird owners really manoeuvre their a/c during a display. Usually very sedate and ultra safe level flybys. I also did not realize that the Sabre is considerably larger than the MiG-15. And the Sabre driver with the panache to have let the canopy roll back at a VERY considerable airspeed during the landing roll! Thanks 4 Posting!

    The MiG and the Sabre were pretty evenly matched in performance. The North Koreans and the covert Russian MiG pilots weren’t prepared for the experience level of the American pilots, many of whom were WW2 piston engine aces. They got beat up pretty bad. They would run for the Yalu River and safety. Most of the time the Americans would follow orders and not cross into China. Sometimes they didn’t follow orders. 😁

    During the Korean War, the U.S. Air Force sustained 1,198 deaths in combat. Of these, 968, or 80%, were fighter pilots. Some 112 of them were F-86 pilots, the most likely to engage the Soviets in MiG Alley.Jun 13, 2018

    Two of my all time favorite jets but if your gonna do a mock combat well it would have been more intriguing if there wasnt drop tanks because they drop there tanks before a fight due to the fact that they hinder the planes of there maneuverability. I am sure you all know this I am just saying. It would be better not to have the tanks on.

    Come on MiG pilot! Climb! F86 can't follow you there. Then - drop on it like an eagle and kill it. I know it was just a show for public - so it had to be low, and the propaganda is that U.S. must always win :)

  • @lightningdriver81

    @lightningdriver81

    Jaroslaw P. They had an eleven to one kill rate against that MiG during the Korean War. Do your research before you get all political. The MiG was no doubt the more agile machine -- it shocked the Americans -- but most U.S. pilots at that time had flown in WW2, which goes to show you the machine is only half of the equation.

  • @TheIceland2000
    @TheIceland20003 жыл бұрын

    The Mig had a higher climb rate and ceiling. That made her the better fighter plane. A good pilot would use climb rate and altitude to his advantage. Therefore, this mock up fight is just propaganda. Nothing more.

    Both are great planes, But with a 10 to 1 kill ratio in Korea, the MIG-15 was pretty much nothing more than target practice for the F-86.

    There are a couple of important points you're actually missing. First of all the Mig-15 was superior in almost everything compared with the F-86, secondly the kill ratio was in favor of the Mig-15 while being flown by experienced soviet pilots. And finally, the kill ratio might have shifted in favor of the Americans when the North Koreans started flying. PS. Don't forget also that the Americans got a great advantage since a North Korean pilot defected to the South and gave the Americans the chance to know how to fly against the Mig-15.

  • @desertfoxleo

    @desertfoxleo

    True, but that had more to do with the relative quality of the pilots, rather than the quality of the planes. You had quite a few US World War Two experienced combat pilots flying those Sabres, versus a lot of totally inexperienced pilots flying the MiGs.

  • @robertelmo7736

    @robertelmo7736

    4 жыл бұрын

    That's actually not true. The actual number was close to 5.5 to 1, but was only 1.4 to 1 before the good Russian pilots were replaced by inexperienced North Korean and Chinese pilots. It was then the F-86 started to rack up the kills. Look into it, not trying to be a know it all but that's what an expert told me (I had the same idea you did about how competitive the two were). Then again, you could argue the Americans had their hands tied (politics of keeping the war small) with limited numbers and not being able to pursue the MIGs back to their bases.
