[4K] Displacement Reaction of Metals - Zinc in Copper (II) Sulfate - with explanation at micro level
Displacement reaction happens when a more reactive metals is able to displace a less reactive metal from it's compound, in this case, a salt solution.
In this video, you will observe the displacement of zinc metal from copper (II) sulfate solution. Zinc is a more reactive metal than copper, thus it is able to displace copper metal from a solution containing copper (II) ions.
The displacement reaction is a redox reaction, since both oxidation and reduction takes place at the same time.

But why the displacement continues even when the strip of zinc is already fully covered in copper atoms? Next copper atoms are in fact attaching to the already earlier deposited copper atoms. Your animation 3:26 would explain for a thin layer of Cu atoms on the surface of the strip which would trap zinc atoms inside.
Damn after read books 2 3tyms i couldn't understand this but after this video I could understand properly mam tysm 🥺 There are so many students who watched your video from India And I am also one of them❤️🇮🇳

Very cool, how do you remove the copper from the zinc? And if it was a solution of sodium chloride and copper ll chloride, how would I seperate them both?
I'm doing this experiment for a chem project. What did you do to dispose of the aqueous Zinc (II) Sulphate?
Literally the explanation video I have ever seen!!!!
Wow😃😃😃 Amazing explanation 💝💝. Thanks 🤩🤩
Amazing video, thanks!
If we change the zinc stripe to zinc powder and complete the displacement of copper from copper sulphate, the resulting powder is rather grey than red, just a tint of reddish brown. Any explanation why the colour differs from pure copper powder (maroon red) so much? Thanks!
can i use this video in another scientific video with -of course - linking this at the end for the copyright purposes ?
Superb... I like it 😍👍

@Raquel Yoong what if I mixed copper sulfate powder and zinc oxide powder?
Thank you! But, I have to ask if there is any gas displaced in the reaction. If so, what is it?
Good good.. Understood properly
Why is it that a piece of zinc metal changes to black in color after placing it in a solution of copper(II) sulfate?
Really .. Best explanation ... You deserve millions of likes
Really it is nice explanation ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for this helpful video 😊 From Bangladesh 🇧🇩
When we kept the zinc plate in copper Sulfate solution ,does zinc piece gradually dissolute?
Literally no one suggested me but now I'm so happy to see the practical reaction cus from next year I will practical your videos will help me alot.
I have found some rock containing silver sulfide in the mountain, please tell me how and with what acid can I convert silver sulfide into silver metal, with what materials should I dissolve it and with what materials should I precipitate it 🙏🙏

how do copper atoms stick together? do they form a metallic lattice where electrons are delocalized?
@RaquelYoong
3 жыл бұрын
copper is a metal (solid), thus the atoms are closely packed together in an orderly arrangement, according to the kinetic particle theory
Really mam amazing video ☺️☺️☺️

good morning ! why copper is less reactive than zinc although it's before zinc in periodic table ? what determines reactivity of metals apart from valence electrons ?
@arminakbari47
2 жыл бұрын
Answer: We find, Zinc is placed higher than Copper in the Electro-chemical Series, since Zinc is more reactive than Copper. Now, the reason is that Zinc loses its valence electrons more easily than Copper to take part in a reaction.
ohhh! awesome great animation along with concepts
Thanks a lot 🙏
excellent ..
thanks a lot that was really helpful
How chemistry should actually be taught........ THXXXXXXXXXXX
So that's why in Daniel cell, zinc and copper electrodes are not dipped together in same solution. Because they react! Thanks this helped me
Thanks.super class
Do you know how to remove zinc plating from copper ?
Thank you!!
Can we add zinc sulphate powder
Thank you so much
Thank you teacher
Why doesn't copper deposit on the bottom of glass instead of depositing on Zn strip. And after Zn takes its place then how does Cu know it has to move on Zn strip,why Cu not deposit in bottom
very helpful
Mam u have explained awesome
I accidentally did this reaction during a acid test by putting a small piece of magnesium metal and copper(II) carbonate in diluted hydrochloric acid My science teacher gave me a A+ For doing this lol

How does the zinc just lose electrons when it goes into water? I dont get that part. And why does the copper stick to the zinc?
@infernalsquid
3 жыл бұрын
Copper takes the electrons from the zinc and settles in its elemental form, so zinc is now oxidized and is part of the solution.
Thank you for the video, why when copper sulphate concentration increases the end temperature increases?
Good Job
Thank you!!!!!!!!
And then I can use potassium to get the zink out.... But my problem is I need to reuse the water in a leatching proces so how to clean it. For potassium.
will copper cement out the PLATINUM GROUP METALS?
