4K/60p: LIRR M3 Front Window Atlantic Terminal to Freeport

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Taken 6/21/23. After Work, paid Brooklyn a visit to meet up with friends for an evening of half price off games at D&B. Mainly, Dance Dance Revolution as we have special Cards that allow us to keep track of scores and participate in tournaments. Around 7:20PM, made my way back to the terminal and the first thing available was #284 to Freeport with M3's. This actually worked out as I was parked in Babylon anyway, so took the opportunity to get another RFW in the books. Enjoy!

I'm from Philly and it never ceases to amaze me the differences between our subways and NYC's. Another great video, thank you 👍🏾👊🏾

It would be more accurate to compare LIRR/Metro North to SEPTA Regional Rail. I moved a year and a half ago from Kew Gardens NY, where I had 30-minute headway to Penn Station on weekends to Rydal, PA, where it's 2 hours for a comparable trip to Center City, Philly. To be fair, the NY MTA has since screwed up the Kew Gardens service with its East Sude Access plan, but it's still one-hour headway at each Manhattan terminal. The Center City connector was a great plan but somehow the anticipated "S-Bahn tie service" never materialized. I'd like to use Regional Rail to the airport this August but I don't think I can wrangle our suitcases onto the train from our low-level platform. Anyone renember low-level platforms? platforms?

At times it does look like the subway in places but it is the LIRR.

16:02 Woodhaven Junction, 16:10 Woodhaven Station (abandoned) to the former Rockaways line now operated by the A train 25:50 various MOW stuff parked on the left 26:30 two abandoned passenger cars on the left. Doesn't look like there's any rail under them. 26:49 abandoned siding on the right to former Naval Hospital coal siding (per Arrt's Archives) 27:59 Wonder why they put that wide space between the tracks. There was never a station there as far as I know. 28:34 Former NY & Rockaway trackage (what we're on) curves left (east) to parallel the former Jamaica & South Shore tracks, now all LIRR. It used to continue straight to Cedarhurst, was abandoned 1880, revived 1904, again abandoned 1919, rebuilt 1927-28, again abandoned 1934 for good. Only remains are some pilings in Hook Creek. 30:57 Far Rockaway branch curves right (south) 31:11 W Hempstead branch (single track) on left 33:26 Long Beach branch on right

There is a sizable gap between East New York and Jamaica; one could argue that Woodhaven Station could return and it wouldn't add too much time to the trip.

Grew up in a NYC Subway and transit fan in Bergen County NJ. Long Island is a whole different world to me despite living on opposite sides of the same City. This is the 1st time I’ve “ridden” this line; the entire LIRR is a mystery to me!!Thanks for these trips, since I may never ride the LIRR.

7:23 on right is never used junction with the PP&CI, the Prospect Park and Coney Island. The PP&CI was once owned by the LIRR; it was the route the LIRR used to access Coney Island in the steam age. By 1904 when the LIRR electrified the tracks between Flatbush and Jamaica and tunneled or elevated it’s Brooklyn line the old PP&CI was sold to the Brooklyn elevated lines, the northern part now known as the Franklin Ave Shuttle. The underground junction was roughed in on case the LIRR wanted to renew their access to Coney Island.

You sure about that? The PP&CI was further west, at McDonald Avenue, and eventually became the BRT's Culver Line; it was elevated around 1918 (?) and the ground level track became part of the South Brooklyn RR. LIRR's connection to that was from the Kensington Jct at McDonald and Avenue I, where the ShopRite is now. The line that went to Franklin Ave was the Brooklyn, Flatbush & Coney Island, that is now the Brighton Line; south of Avenue H it was once a six track right of way, with four BRT/BMT tracks (still there) and two LIRR/Manhattan Beach RR tracks on the east side of the embankment. Those two tracks were replaced with houses, but you can still see the old stairs going up to the site of the LIRR station at Gravesend Neck Rd station. See "Arrt's Arrchives" (sic) for more info on this and all other aspects of LIRR history.

Seeing the entire trip from Atlantic terminal, which was previously called Flatbush Ave is a real treat. I hope I can find other entire cab view trips, maybe Penn Station to Ronkonkona in Suffolk county where I live

Dude, you should've taken the Acela south to D.C. S8nce I've got friends and family from Philly to D.C., anytime I go to visit them I jump on Amtrak regional or Acela. Only certain sections is track is Acela designated for super high speed, and than not north of NY. Those sections is track are from NY-DC. Now THAT'S the train you need to be on is your looking to get somewhere by train fast
