496 Cubic Inch Monster Big Block Engine Build
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Monster sized 8.1 Big Block is back together where hopefully it can make more power than before! I'd love to make 1,000 horsepower on the stock rotating assembly, and as far as I know, nobody has pushed a stock bottom end 8.1 this far yet, so we are in unknown territory. As they say, there is only one way to find out, so stay tuned to see if the 8.1 will hold up or let go!

you will need a power adder to get to 1000hp.

Ive always loved the 8.1 since its debut. But everyone said it was weak and not worth building. I have loved how you proved an entire industry wrong and kust went for it. Unfortunately now i want a 3500 dually to use as a tractor pull monster. Lol
Good to see you back, LT. !

Hey, thanks!
Welcome back LT! Glad you are doing ok! Sorry to hear about your mom.
Good to have you back in the saddle. Teared up when you mentioned Pat. In today's world of Richard holdner this and Brian tooley that I had a memory blast of Pat and his massive ammount of knowledge and experience . Solid guy, great engine builder
LT, you’re doing a lot of guys a favor and testing out your 8.1L and pushing it to the max(knowing you’re going to hit a breaking break) you sir are a bad ass ;-) keep up the good work boss!! ♡ ♡ ♡
I just happened to pause the vid and came back to look and see the hone. You definitely want to invest in a rigid hone like a Lisle or similar. Get a shelf full of pig mats and a million gallons of spray lube. When you think you're making a mess, that's the right amount. Rigid hones are good for taking out uneven wear.
After your last video I went straight online and bought some Solder Stick connectors! There is a learning curve with them but I am figuring it out. Such a neat little system.

Were you able to make any work? I tried 3 or 4 in a row and the heat shrink melted long before any solder melted. I work in aerospace so it could be I’m just used to higher quality connectors

@@jordanharris3749 the first two came out almost perfect using a map gas torch so I brought em to work to show the guys and we ruined 4 in a row because everything melted and or caught on fire long before the solder would melt. I still need to practice more with them, the idea is amazing but I’m not sure the technology is there yet. Hopefully others will chime in with their experience and methods.

@@baby-sharkgto4902 The ones we use where I work are great, all it takes is a heat gun and the solder melts and everything works right. I think these are just lower quality connectors
so happy to see you wearing gloves during assembly
Finally! I've been looking forward to your uploads

If the Ceracoat is anything like the HPC coating we use in Australia it will be a good thing under the bonnet. Very effective at keeping the heat in the exhaust.
No need for apologies sir, family should always come first. Can’t wait to see you get in to the 9s 🤞🏼
We need to see that heads up drag race when they’re both together!
Cam angle is my favorite too
You’re one of those people I’d have do anything to my truck and not have to worry about anything , and not care about the cost
Keep getting after it LT! I enjoy watching your builds. You have a keen eye for detail.
I realize we always want to go faster. That said, the stock 8.1 has served you very well and achieved its initial goal. Please don’t scatter it by keep pushing it.

I’m gonna try and make it live as long as possible. I’d hate to see it scattered really
I'm putting a 8.1 in a 66 Impala I'm excited about this content
Pat Topolinski for the win!
Amazes me that them 4 bolts can hold the engine on an engine stand.
Splitting hairs on those bearings LT. It keeps with your self-description of OCD. Nice work.
I'd love to see you and pat working on this motor together at some point ... Bring back the old times. #powernation
I didn't know you could change the firing order without changing the crank. Never thought about it before.
Well LT when you have a business and family it's kinda hard to do. And still catch your breath thanks for your videos.
Working on doing the shortblock of my 8.8 now . If i get the shortblock together tonight ill be happy.
Hope all is as well as possible with the family. And would like to know when you’re thinking about a T&T and Bandi. I’d like to see the truck run.
LS EATER lets go!
When assembling an engine you should protect the crank from the rod bolts by using a couple of short pieces of 3/8" fuel hose to cover the rod bolts so you don't drag it across the rod journals, I've seen this happen before. left marks that had to be dressed down before it could be assembled
I think solder sticks guys are helping Sleeper Dude as well.
Its nice getting my LT fix
Loving this Big Block bucks series LT! Keep up the great informative vids👍💪
I'm so freaking excited to see what this truck can do once it's all back together with proper ring gap!!
Glad to see you back at it.
If I could go back 13 years ago I would of built two trucks one for just cruising and a 4x4 1998 chevy with a stroked 8.1 or racing on track and offroad fun.
Glad to see you sir. Awesome build brother.
Super amazing progress! Glad to see you’re back at it. Much love brother! Good luck to Nick. Maybe a friendly bet is in order to see who gets the engine fired up first!
Progress! Welcome back, Brother!
I love those connectors.....
i cant wait to see this thing ripping again LT! keep kicking ass man
Nice job Lt
Nicely done
Welcome back 💯
Looks awesome
very technical! nice
Great work and progress on the EV killer project 👍.( LS or any petrol motor is our allied IMO).
LT20 works!
great video
Good video
Be sure the chain dont rub the support ridges in the timing cover and the flat spot on the block drivers side of the cam gear 👍
Checking clearances appears to be something that may take some time to learn.
Nice 👍
Be cool if Pat and you did a build on your channel. Like when your gonna do the full engine rebuild for big power he was there for it.
As I watch you build this engine ! One like this but different cam be great for fad rats 4x4 square body tow truck! Im looking forward to more of this build apart from the many projects I have one 1953 ford bread van clipped 1987 c20 have a 454 t400 gear vender 14 bolt diff watchingvthis build thinking 8.1
I can not believe you used a clamp band to put the pistons in the block. Piston sleeves work so much nicer, some are adjustable on bore size or some are for same size of bore...
Hope your mental wealth is in a great place you just had to deal with a lot love the content but also want you to be in a good headspace
Love this channel. Can’t wait to see it rip. Will you take it down to Pueblo motor sports park?
Dont mix bearing halves it forms a oil wedge against the seam and will overheat the oil at high rpm polish the crank or just run it slightly loose with the full set of x bearings
While you have that apart. Would you mind 0 decking a piston and measuring the max notch depth? That should adversely tell us a good idea max cam lift for valve clearance on stock pistons. You seem to like your new tools and should only take a few minutes as you do have the heads off. Was just thinking...
The vortec 8100 is a BB LS
The computer can adjust for that amount of degree. My hemi computer adjust the timing up to 20 degrees.
Which one is cheaper to build and makes more since to swap in a vehicle
Great video....but how is the an LS killer.
I have one question why didn’t you go with a single cab?
In not sure i see a difference between a junkyard engine and one you go out od a fedex truck
Have you gave any thought about using the new 8.1 block world products came out with or dart?
Exciting stuff! Can't wait to see what this build will tolerate. Do you have enough fuel system to really push it safely? I can't remember what the fuel system setup was on this one.

@@LawrenceTolman Right on!! I always seem to forget about taking the ethanol content down some to stretch the fuel system a bit! I maxed out my single Walbro 525 on e85, but one of these days I may have to dilute 'er down a bit and see what can be done. I'm too lazy to add a pump it seems. Lol
Since 2016 I have built probably more than 600 LS motors. We have the cranks turned if necessary. Out of hundreds of engines I have never measured the crank or the block and have never had one problem with clearance issues. And the motors I build are certainly not all stock. To each his own, right ?
@MyName-ln6mk
10 ай бұрын
That's a half ass way of doing things sir. I hope those 600 engines were for your use and that you didn't sell them to customers.
What are you going to run for a crank damper? I hope not the stock one. If you want to give that crank it’s best chance at surviving you should get one with some mass.
I’m currently in the beginning stages of building a 496 stroker for the first time. Any advice?
What size rings did you go with?
I need some LT assistance! I'm building a 4 cylinder and the rods have a good bit of side to side play on the crank, the big end isn't wide enough. Oil pressure isn't an issue! How bad is it? Have you ever ran an engine with a narrow big end?
Maybe an engine diaper so you dont blow 6L of oil and 12L of coolant everywhere once that rapid unscheduled dissassembly.
the only problem with the 8.1 is lack of aftermarket support if a carburetor intake manifold was made for this engine like a dual plane the only intake aftermarket for this engine is from that little company 🫣 to bad can’t buy a pair of Elderbrook cylinder heads for this engine not even airflow research heads nor even Brox cylinder heads 😕 and that’s why nobody builds these engines for high power builds
Are you using the factory heads?
Where did you find the torque specs for the bolts?
Junk Yard VS FedX 🤔 👍🏻
I wish I had a Pat on speed dial haha. I'm pretty sure that guy has forgotten more than I'll ever know.
That cam is almost identical to the marine h.o. cam specs if you dont want to change firing order
It takes 496 BB cubes to beat the LS ?
What ecu are you running?
What’s the deal with the built big block like 1500 horse motor the 535
That cam seems similar to the mercruiser 496 HO CAM…
34👍's up LT thank you for sharing 😊
Is that a mark VI block?
Is the full on built dead?
Hey lt how can I get ahold of you to bounce some ideas off of you I have a 8.1 in my obs Chevy Dually and I’m needing help in a few areas
That 202 cam ;) is gonna be lumpy on a 113
@FlatBroke612

That cam is a baby and hardly worthy of a grocery getter. This whole build is flawed.
Is the Mustang dead?
So from .002 to .003
What happened to the 8.8 aftermarket block build?
@LawrenceTolman

Still have it, but it turned into a complete other truck build. It’s going into a 4x4 version of UglyTruck
The older firing order sounds better anyway but I would use the thinnest head gaskets availible get some more compression

Those are flat tops, have to be careful with valve duration
Why start with a 8.1 instead of a 454 and stroke it a quarter inch and have access to better heads and manifolds?

All satin black might make it look like a boring marine engine. Cast iron gray Cerakote shades would contrast better.
