A workbrow grapple for the excavator would be a useful tool for these types of projects. Mike with Outdoors with the Morgan’s uses it quite a bit for brush and small stump removal. Nice job!

Nothing better than getting the second job of digging drain tile once the house floods!

All I did was what the customer wanted! I suggested a catch basin with a proper drain pipe away from the house but they wanted to see how it worked

If water run off and drainage wasn't an issue before, then i think you'll be fine now. Especially once he gets some grass and shrubs growing in on the hillside

I think you did a great job grading that area Jake. When you bought the excavator you mentioned you might do some side jobs other than firewood. I can see you doing a lot more of that type work.

It seems like you might be able to cut down the steepness of the slope by using the rocks to build a retaining wall at the top of the slope. It also looks as if they need a swale between the house and the slope to keep the water away from the house and draining towards the street.

They didn’t want any rocks or walls, they said they had a perforated drain pipe to dump to the driveway, I suggested a catch basin with actual drain pipe but they wanted to see how it all worked out 🤷🏼‍♂️

Good job 👍 I'm not an equipment operator, but it looks like your plan to level a trail across the upper section, move the material, then fill the trail back in worked well 😊

That's going to be quite the single slope sluice sending all the water down onto the house don't you think

I suggested the potential of a catch basin at the bottom with a drain pipe going past the house down the hill. They said rain water hadn’t been an issue in the past so they would wait and see. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’m just an armchair excavation guy but you may have wanted to put in a little swale to divert water from the house- or maybe it’s already there and the camera did no justice…. With the siding going all the way to the ground, and a 20 plus degree slope, runoff might become an issue there. Again, I’m not hating, I think you guys did good, it’s just an observation.

If the bucket tooth doesn’t fit tight on the shank on the bucket, that could cause the pin to break. I kept loosing teeth on my bucket and just said to heck with it and welded them on. I realize that isn’t an ideal solution but it’s only for personal use on my property so it’ll take a long time for them to wear out. It’ll be a good excuse to buy a plasma cutter if I ever need to change them 😂

  • @DudeRanchDIY

Yeah I’ve though of doing that, can always cut the welds but I’d rather find a good roll pin

@@DudeRanchDIY yea I don’t blame you. When you put the tooth on the bucket shank, is there play between the tooth and shank? You could have it built up with weld so it’s a tight fit.
