48 Hours in Stowe, Vermont | Meeting the Von Trapps?! | Summer in Vermont
Check out our summer adventure to Stowe, Vermont, where we visited some of the city's best sites including the Ben & Jerry's Factory, the Von Trapp Family Lodge, the Von Trapp Brewery, and the Waterbury Reservoir.
Stowe, Vermont is a small city tucked into the verdant mountains of Vermont. It's a city that is full of fun things to do in all seasons, but especially in summer. For the adventurous, there are plenty of outdoor activities to do around the city including hiking, skiing, paddleboarding, biking, and more. For the food and drink lovers, Stowe offers a surprising amount of delicious restaurants, cafes, and breweries to try that will keep you busy for weeks.
We had plenty of good culinary experiences while in Stowe, but our favorite had to be the Von Trapp Brewery. If you aren't familiar with the Von Trapps just by their name, they are the family made famous by the classic movie, the Sound of Music. A little known fact is that they ended up moving to Vermont after leaving Austria! And, as luck would have it, we were able to meet some of the Von Trapp grandchildren that were working at the brewery! It was genuinely a celebrity moment for both of us (especially Rachel) to meet a Von Trapp in real life after spending much of our life watching the Sound of Music.
Another experience we would highly recommend is visiting the Ben & Jerry's Factory that is just south of Stowe in Waterbury. While Ben & Jerry's wasn't offering tours of their factory when we visited in Summer 2021, they still offered us the opportunity to try some rare flavors of their favorite ice cream. We also were able to explore Ben & Jerry's Flavor Graveyard, which was made to remember some of the flavors that have "died" (been discontinued) throughout the years.

Nice to see you enjoying my home town ! Spent my life on the Stowe ski team ! Lived in Stowe Hollow. Haven’t been back since 1990! Love these videos! I sat next to Maria Von Trappe in church every Sunday until her passing. She loved me because I had the little duch boy look. I was really an Irish kid from Boston with long hair !
The Great grandkids sang for a couple of years too. There was a quartet, popular from maybe 2010-2016. But they were singing locally a long time. They stopped singing and touring a few years ago to pursue other fields. They were good! They grew up in Montana.

I was referring to the Von Trap fami!y. The Ben and Jerry ice cream graveyard is a cute idea. If they were not so pricey, I would try the ice cream more.

They sound super nice, great that he gave you free passes 🥰 you guys should totally go back to stay in that lodge! The brewery looked so cool and the food delicious! The paddle boarding looked like so much fun! The ice cream flavour graveyard though 😂 so quirky and something we’d definitely check out!!

Welcome back guys and Happy Birthday Rachel! That still water reflecting the sky is beautiful! It reminded us of Estonia and Finlands nature hikes so much! That's so cool that you met some real Von Trapps 😍The Map Pinners are alive with the sound of music! Paddle boarding looked so fun and heading to the alchemist after definitely seemed like a great idea to end the day. Ben and Jerrys for breakfast definitely sounds like a birthday weekend treat!

Wow! That a lovely pond! Your drone shots are stunning! So interesting to learn about the Trapp family. I had no idea they ended up in Vermont. I could see how it would remind them of home though. And that flavor graveyard is so cute! Ben and Jerry always have such creative ideas! Cute vlog guys!

We were at Stowe a few weeks ago and didn’t need any passes to explore the lodge
We're going there next month so I was glad to see this video (and your appreciation for the Von Trapps!) Very well done - came off natural and I learned a lot.

We have never gotten a chance to visit Vermont but heard so much about it. You have such incredible drone shots and the weather seems so perfect. So nice you got a free pass for the lodge too! Ben & Jerry visit makes me want to have some ice cream right now. This was a lovely video!

I am nerding out here I HAVE to go to this brewery I love the Sound of Music. One of my all time favourites and I love the story. I'm totally adding this to my list of places to visit next year. It totally does look like Austria and such European vibes there. Haha the sad music at the pearly gates made me laugh.

Welcome back! The food at the brewery looked so good and massive portions - perfect post-hike food! So cool that you actually met a couple of the Von Trapps! I might go vote to resurrect the white russian b&js 😄
