47re TV Cable Adjustment

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Going over how to properly adjust your TV cable on Chrysler 47re transmission. Also applies on early 48re. This will create earlier or later 1,2,and 3 shifts depending on how you want it. This adjustment is a must for modified valve bodies.

    Thank you for the detailed video. Originally, I applied the TSB 21-009-07 (1-2 Shift Hunt At Light Throttle) and ended up replacing the Governor Pressure Solenoid and full ATF flush per the TSB. This adjustment on the TV / kick-down cable worked for me and now my truck drives normally.

    That clip is supposed to let the cable self adjust. You put it on without pulling on the cable. When you go WOT it pulls the cable adjustment through like a ratchet if it's too short. The problem with mine was the cable was sticking and not retracting. Some repeated sprays of lubi-doobi at the top and wiggling at the trans finally freed it up.

    That's what mine did, 3.9 magnum but same cable, ya? So I used this vid, first in search results, bc I couldn't remember how the clip went, and noticed as soon as I pulled the clip it sprung back a bit, I put it back on and sure enough, throttle all the way down and maxes out on the trans side, just where it should be for initial adjustment

    If you don’t have fuel upgrades like governor springs it will take a long time to get to 3,000rpms. I would lower the shift point if your 12 valve is all stock.

    2nd gear starts usually caused by governor pressure solenoid. You would have to hook up a scanner capable of reading that parameter. If it is seeing the incorrect pressure early on it will start in 2nd gear. I will do a video one day on it to help people out like yourself.

  • @DarksideDiesel

    That could have been caused by low line pressure. If he pulled the cable tighter then line pressure increased and may have kept it from shifting back down and up.

  • @DarksideDiesel

    Honestly that to me sounds like an internal issue with clutches slipping. Possible if the TV cable is not getting pulled enough then you won't have correct line pressure to keep clutches from slipping. After a rebuild or valve body work you should adjust the cable. Try adjusting it and see if it helps.

    I tore down my 47re found the bands had not been adjusted like the previous owner said had been done for the first return for service after the rebuild on the transmission. So I thought I was still 5k good for bands adjustment. Wrong! Black fluid. Back band down to almost steel. Wear on drum resurfaced and checked for out of round. Then installed 727 bands thicker. Make sure Kevlar. Check with my pro builder he agreed. All my clutchs and plates were like new after almost 60k on rebuilt transmission i mean ou could sill see he print on it and no show of heat bluing on plates. I had bought a 600 hp rebuild kit. But i didn't install. Did install shift kit and GM upgrade. After reinstaling to find out that my real problem was the bands need adjusting every 24k the 1st 2nd is set from outside the overdrive from inside the pan. DO the upgraded pan with a drain plug or install one. But new pan adds 2 more qts more fluid witch is better. The other thing I found was my TV cable was stuck with fraid wire so line pressure for shifting not correct. And not accelerating correctly as well. Also bought new battery cable connectors and cleaned and checked ground and installed a cable emf shield over the wire to the alternator. All this to find out it was 3 things were wrong ground/emf, bands, and TV cable. My 1997 Cummins 4x4 3500 put out just a little over 700 ft pounds to the wheels and get 16 to 18 towing my 24' airstream. So if you keep your bands adjusted and your liquid cool and your transmission with the GM upgrade should do well with your 47re.

    So mine 2500 changes gears pretty well except when i stop or slow down, it doesn't throw it to first gear and tries to keep going with second gear. Enough throtle like 3/4 or more and it pops the first gear on and goes again... soo... i need to move the cable towards the radiatot? It's 1995 so R47H i think? And 30 000 miles ago done large maintenance on the box so im pretty sure that cable is the problem. And thanks for the video. It was really helpfull but you need a camera man!

  • @DarksideDiesel

    @DarksideDiesel

    I haven't done much with 47RH models but I believe they are all hydraulically controlled. RE is electric. But I think moving it forward to radiator will lower line pressure possible allowing it to downshift to first. Do very small adjustments and try. Do not want to lower line pressure to much. That will cause clutch slippage.
