That hug between Stephen and Evie was like “We got to the other side!!” 🥲💖

That’s when I realized just how funny Colbert is. If you can constantly make me laugh from a small storage room for a year and half, you have a gift.

Legitimately cried watching this. It's like the first real sign that were almost done with this. This felt like light at the end of the tunnel and it just made me so happy to see it, even if it was only KZread

I'll miss the broom closet with Evie's sweet giggles. It was like he was talking directly to each of us.

Instead of shoulder to shoulder with complete strangers, all they had to do was separate people by a seat. I don't like going backwards to the way things were.

Stephen isn't just a late night comedian. He's become a friend. He's gotten us through the hard times, as we learned from him and as he made us laugh at things we were finding terrifying. I have tears in my eyes, as I'm saying thank you. I'm glad you get to be on your stage and with your audience. But I'll hold in my heart the memories of you in your tub and your house, and your storage closet that got me through every day of this horrific time. Welcome back! 😍

We wanted to thank you Stephen for keeping us sane durning the pandemic. My partner and I watched your show every day, deciding to process world events through our favourite comedian. You became an important part of our routine and sanity. You and Evie were familiar faces when we couldn't see our own parents. That presence and consistency in an unstable world is a life line and an immeasurable gift. From a couple of kids in Canada, hanging out in our sweat pants, we thank you. Here's hoping we can travel soon and see your show in person some day.

His wife is so beautiful, and it seems like they were made for each other. Stephen is one of the extremely rare souls in the entertainment industry that truly seems to be a genuine, kindhearted individual. The world needs more people like him. I've been a huge fan since I was a teenager, and will continue to be a fan until my days here are done. Thank you for always being a voice of love and reason, and for bringing joy and laughter to millions of people around the world when we need it the most.

I know they had their issues (bc they admitted it on air), but they truly show what commitment to each other turns into when you’re older. My wife and I have a good relationship, but I aspire to be like them when we get to that age. So much love for each other.

I'll never get enough of seeing Stephen and Evie together, and I'm usually a grumpy, dour, bah humbug pessimist. Evie is just a sweetheart radiating joy from every pore, and Stephen always looks like the proudest guy to have Evie on his arm.

I loved his shiver when Jon Batiste played a piano chord for emphasis; that was the moment that he truly appeared to feel "back". It's a moment that puts a smile on my face every time I think about it! Stephen Colbert was reacting in real time to a tiny detail that had been missing for 15 months, and he hadn't really realized how much he missed it. ❤️

I got a little misty when he came out to a live studio audience. Evie is adorable. The way he looks at her is everything one wants to have in a partner. So much love there. #SuckItLionking :-D

The energy is just bursting from the seams here 😍😍😍 I started watching Stephen Colbert over lockdown here in the UK (my first video of him was his monologue about the Capitol riot) and I thought "here is a man who is saying what I'm thinking in such a thoughtful, earnest, and honest way" and I've been a fan ever since 😍

I enjoyed the intimate atmosphere of the quarantine editions but seeing the absolute joy in Stephen‘s eyes to be back on his stage hits different!

I am always SO delighted every time we see Evie. Honestly, they're the most adorable couple and her face just exudes pure delight with each smile or laugh.

I’m Australian, I watch Colbert only online. I’ve loved and appreciated every minute of “A Late Show”. I was not prepared for how emotional the return to a live audience was going to be. These last twelve months have been heart wrenching to watch from afar.

Who else comes back here occasionally just to see Evie Colbert and restore your faith in humanity? Seriously, she is a national treasure who needs to be protected at all costs.

Stephen and crew, thank you for toughing it out and keeping the show going, and Evie, thank you for your beautiful laughter! The pandemic feels pretty over now that Stephen and the band are live!

I started tearing up when he grabbed the woman from the audience and danced. You don't realize how much human interaction has been missed until you see it and know what it MEANS and how we were able to get to that moment. What a moment!!!

Same! It sounds goofy but I teared up at seeing the audience and the applause.

I’d been looking forward to Stephen being able to bask in a crowd again. He deserves that after all he’s helped to get us through.

I am going to miss A Late Show. It had a comforting feel. I liked how it was more quiet and low key than The Late Show.

Kept us entertained. Loveliest Lady ever! Great job on both fronts Colbert!

Loved that he brought Evie out. She was the best part of “A Late Show”. I wouldn’t mind if she just introduced the eve’s guest as long as we get to see more of her!

I truly hate talk shows but it’s great to see Colbert so overtly joyous to be in front of an audience again. He’s a true showman.

Seriously Evie needs to become a regular part of the show.

I was so happy that the crowd got hyped for Evie, she's honestly the sweetest person

Dancing in the midst of 4 people dressed as syringes is clearly the most fun that Stephen has ever had with a Vax-scene intro!

What he terribly missed and now very much enjoys is not so much the dancing, but the live audience, the band and the human contact. The past vax-scenes were animations which he pretended to interact with in a little room in total silence. The public's energy is what all comedians and performers charge and motivate themselves with, and their joy, along with the unmistakable sound of live music, and the warmth of bodily contact with other human beings after well over a year of isolation is so refreshing, it ends up galvanizing Stephen and us as well, as he beams these near-hertbreaking feelings even through the screen all the way around the world. It sure is wonderful to have him back! Can 't wait for Jon's interview to go live....

Hearing Evie laugh was really one of the best things. It just made things feel more connected - always nice to hear someone laugh with you, and it gave us a glimpse into the internal Colbert dynamic. Good stuff

I couldn't help but love how everyone seems to love his wife just as I did the last few months. We will miss her dearly. Hopefully she'll stick around for a while

I want to add a huge round of applause for Jon Baptise for that number that he performed tonight. It was fabulous! I am a Detroiter and I can tell you that it was like watching the first big number performed by Motown s Marvin Gaye! He more than outdid himself tonight. Loved it! Thank you, Jon.

Can’t believe its been two years since this. Watching his return will always be such a great memory. Missing him during the writers strike, and hoping he’ll come back stronger and funnier than ever!

Stephen's got the moves! Congratulations, dude! I watched the show from your home in NY to mine in São Paulo (nearby) and it was awesome. I did use my comments here on KZread a lot - to applaud and to criticize - and, once again, I'm here. My applause to all who kept me laughing for weeks - as well as informed.

I'll be darned, Stephen does fit in that suit.

I’m both thrilled and close to tears. The cheers of the crowd were almost as great as just hearing Evie laughing in the background. She needs to be on the show every now and then. Stay Human instead of stay homin

If you’re a Colbert lover, I think we needed this. Feels like normal.

That energy in the theater is just so beautiful! ^_^ That doesn't sound like a tv show. It sounds like friends who have just seen each other again after being apart for 460 days.

Just remember, being vaccinated doesn't mean you can't get Covid, it means that if you get it your symptoms shouldn't be as bad. Unfortunately, there are some underlying situations where your body may not have created the antibodies so please remain careful in close contact situations. I had a friend pass away this week after two months in the hospital. She was vaccinated but due to medications she was taking for a chronic condition, her body didn't make antibodies like it should have. Be safe everyone. Good to have you all back Stephen.

Rewatching this with so much joy. Seeing Stephen dance with the audience member was everything!

I know that Stephen is excited to be back in front of a live audience, but as weird as I thought the pandemic shows were to start, is how weird I feel now about live audience shows again.... Love seeing Jon interact again, but as I wrote on Twitter, I think Evie should be like his on set back up, I'm already missing her adorable giggle.
