ex-LMS Jubilee no. 45699 'Galatea' would bring Stratford’s busy steam appearances to an end with the Shakespeare Expresses also finished for the year, as the engine took to the reigns of West Coast Railway's Fourth and final 'Merchant of Avon' excursion on September 22nd 2019, running from Burton-on-Trent to Stratford-upon-Avon and return.
Running toward it's first booked stop for passengers at Tamworth on the 'Down' leg, the 'Jub' is firstly captured powering through Elford, followed by the footbridge outside of Water Orton station, after it's departure from Coleshill Parkway. The 4-6-0 then made her way via the North Warwickshire Line toward Henley-in-Arden and passed the cameras again at Wood End foot crossing on the tail of the Stratford stopper a few minutes ahead of her. This video concludes with the 'Up' leg, making it's way back toward Burton, and with her three cylinder beat very much audible 4 or 5 minutes before coming into view, 'Galatea' powers through Blunts Green 10 minutes ahead of schedule, and the regulator in the roof - the loudest I no doubt have ever witnessed from a Jubilee!
