53:43 "our creative energy is the purest and most volatile energy that we have, which is why it can get directed to all these very bad places, but when we direct it to the right place I think it really animates us in a way that nothing else does." damn. one of my favorite sentences ever said on a podcast

This may be Tim’s greatest guest appearance on a podcast. Every Tim fan needs to listen. Also I listened to the album after this and it’s so good

On 'Hello In There' Prine sums up war in the one line " we lost Davey in the Korean war, and I still don't know what for, don't matter any more...'

Prine is a favorite but I’m Surprised Tim didn’t bring up Townes Van Zandt or blaze Foley in the mix of that brand

Kris didn't discover John Prine that way. If you watch the doc on KZread Kris explains that John's good friend and musician Steve Goodman took Kris over to where John had finished playing and Kris asked him to go back up and play his songs for them. After hearing his set, Kris asked John to play all of them again, and anything else he had.
