$45 DIY Tubeless Conversion - Africa Twin - ADV Bikes

Ive been working on this for awhile now.... damn 2 ft of snow and getting sick really slowed things down. All-in-all.... very happy with this conversion. Its been about a week since complete and the tires are still holding true to the set air pressures! Below are P/N's and links to where I bought the items from....
$4 each - Valve stems - NAPA - P/N NTH90426
www.napaonline.com/en/p/NTH90426
$32 - 3M sealing tape - Zoro Tools - P/N 4412N

    UPDATE : JUNE 20 2019 : I have been extremely slow to upload this summer as my job has taken me out of state. HOWEVER, the $45 Tubeless system is still holding air strong! I have not had to inflate either tire at all. So for 4 months in..... holding its pressure just as good as a tube!

    nice job, pinch flats are my problem when riding a big bike hard, especially on the rocks, so I have been considering potential solutions, this seems worth a try for the money, I would add that if chemically compatible with the tape, plumbers goop is much stronger and tougher than silicon, also a good way to install the tape is to put the wheel in a static wheel balance device, which makes spinning while controlling the wheel easier, I use it when installing the tubliss tape on dirt bike wheels, again thanks for the info and hopefully it will hold up to some big hits.

The temps here in northern Az vary a lot now that its snowing so Ive had to add a pound or two of air here and there.... other than that... still solid.

    Good video, you just forgot to check spoke Torque first. I did a similar conversion 14 months and 25,000km ago and had no issues. Swapped tires thee times meanwhile. Have a tubeless punkture kit on the bike but for long trips I still carry a tube if something goes wrong or I can't seat the beat with my portable pump.

Really nice vid !! what it should be interresting is to make a feed back in 2-3 month to check and see how is sealent in the rim , if it's still airproof, if they is no leak. It can be airproof now and not in few months. Do you use the sealing tape for the front wheel and then you cut the width at the good measurement ? Keep well

    You basically have done the same as i do for mountain bike tubeless conversions. It should stand up to any type riding you do. The 1 drawback i see us the front tyre could blow in off the bead if you run too low a pressure. But rear should be ok. I even run my 4inch fatbike tyres tubeless and low pressure through pretty rough type ground and never get punctures. The only concern is your front rim not having a good wide bead surface.

    Just a question: what abt the temperatures? Would you suggest to ride at highways speed fully loaded 2 ppl and the luggages? Or the high temperatures inside the wheels may damage the sealing?

  • @TrackDayChamps928

    @TrackDayChamps928

    5 жыл бұрын

    Riding TusCanY that’s good question! I haven’t read anything as far as an temperature range for safe usage of the tape. I don’t think there would be issues and if there were issues, say sealing tape melting, I believe it would be a slow leak and not a blow out. Something noticeable before a dangerous failure. Would be interesting to see how warm the actual rim gets in the riding conditions you mention.

    @TrackDayChamps928

    Aaron Spicer I’ve heard you can run a tube inside a tubeless tire... but never in the context of creating a tougher, less likely to puncture, setup. More of a last ditch effort to keep air in a brutally destroyed tire that can’t be fixed with a plug.

  • @TrackDayChamps928

    @TrackDayChamps928

    5 жыл бұрын

    ripmax333 not too sure. The concern seems to be busting the bead with a low pressure setting. If running a super low pressure with a tuned type setup the risk is a pinch flat.... with a tubeless you risk pushing the tire off the bead. Tough call. I don’t lower my pressures very much on my tires. Never had a traction or ride issue that called for it. With this setup.... I’d definitely be a bit cautious if lowering the pressure drastically.
