Sadly as we know, Linda's singing voice has been silenced by progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), but aren't we fortunate that her magnificent voice lives on in her recordings. Ms. Ronstadt's music has been a part of my life since I was a teenager(I'm now 61) and it has always been a source of comfort in tough times and joy in good times. Thank you for showcasing her talent, Mr. Sklar and I am so happy to hear you are getting your vaccine!....

To stand near and surround that voice with your instrument - just Wow. Actually "Winter Light" was a critical success but commercially far less popular than Ronstadt's two decades of platinum albums. It remains a gorgeous somewhat under appreciated gem. Just listen then listen again. Bravo

Her disease took her voice, but it can’t take the love from her heart that other fellow musicians felt when they were around her. Leland, thanks for focusing on what Linda has, not what she lost. Just watching this, I can feel your admiration and love you had and still have for her.

Thanks for playing Linda again..just an absolute divine gift of a voice. It may be the first time I heard you play, back in the 70’s..as I was young lad back in those days. Fell in love with her voice, and her band. These songs from the ‘90’s show she just never failed to deliver. I promise not to mention how amazing your memory is, every time I comment..but I will today. Unreal. Can’t wait for the Immediate Family album!..Sorry about the premature congrats on the 2nd shot, it’s coming. Stay safe, and thank you for taking this time to brighten our days. 🖕

What I really love, though, is that it's helped you reconnect with some of your musical friends and colleagues, as well. So glad to hear that you were able to catch up with Sheena.

Linda's vocal at the beginning of the first song sounds as if it was recorded with a real live echo chamber with a monitor at one end and a microphone at the other end. It is the most unique recording of any of her vocals before! SOooooo talented! It has always been one of my favorite voices ever!!!

Interesting you mention mastering Leland. No question it’s an art form in itself, unfortunately lots of artists want their final mix as loud as possible to get the attention of the listener when they have their device on shuffle. It means of course that the quiet stuff gets loud which has the effect of robbing the dynamics! Old guy grouch over🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍

    3 жыл бұрын

@@hanspeterlillese2225 - compressing to an MP3 means less accuracy in detail, but that's a different type of compression than what is meant by "loudness wars". MP3 compression means the music can be stored (or streamed) in fewer bytes. "loudness wars" is where the quietest parts of a song are deliberately made louder, so you're "compressing" the loudness of the song. Every instrument, every note sung is made loud. The song ends up with a minimal dynamic range.

  • @garanceadrosehn9691

    @garanceadrosehn9691

    3 жыл бұрын

@@hanspeterlillese2225 - It does not. And it also depends on what resolution of MP3 you're compressing to. If you go much over 256-KB/sec, most people cannot hear the difference between that audio and a lossless version of the song. When developers were coming up with MP3 compression, one of the songs they wanted to successfully render was Suzanne Vega's song "Tom's Diner". That is a song with a pretty decent dynamic range, and is certainly not a loud-rocking song. If MP3 compression had distorted the sound of that song, then MP3's never would have gone anywhere. And make no mistake: mastering a song so everything is loud is a distortion of the music. More to the point: The loudness wars were an issue on CD releases starting around the year 2000. No MP3 compression involved.

When my kids were very young we put together a compilation CD (Remember those) for their Grandmother that included this track. It made my kids fall over laughing at the time (they were 5 & 7) Even now in their late teens it still raises a smile. Check it out.

Lee, you REALLY need to wear long sleeves when you're crawling through your shrubbery and stuff, I eventually got tired of coming back in from doing trees etc with blood here there and everywhere and bought myself a pair of overalls especially for that sort of work. It was interesting to hear you use the word "construction" I've been involved with music for all my working life and of course listening for longer and now after all these years the construction of the songs/music is something I've been paying lot more attention to . The funny thing is it started with a Nick Cave song and he's been an artist that I'd never really managed to attune myself to until I heard "Nobody's Baby Now" The construction of that song is, absolutely sublime, went out the next day and hunted down the "Lovely Creatures" anthology which gets a fair bit of play at home and discovered a whole lot more gems.

"It's a remarkable experience just to be around her". Linda seems universally beloved by all the musicians and collaborators that were in her orbit. Kind of rare in a creative but far too often dirty rotten business. Thanks for your time with us Mr. Bass Man.

The instrument making that wonderful, whimsical sound is called a glass armonica. It was invented by Ben Franklin. The instrument can cause lead buildup in one's blood. Dennis James is the player that plays the instrument for Linda on the album and he has to check the lead level in his blood because touching the glass too much can cause lead poisoning. That's one of the reasons the instrument stopped being popular. People thought it caused madness.

Linda, one of the absolute best singers around. Anyone Who Had A Heart, the Bacharach/David song, many have covered the song. Count Linda's version as one of the best renditions. My youngest daughter sang it to win a high school performing arts contest, the best rendition ever, of course. These days, 10 years later, she's a third year med student. If my daughter was ever to cut an album, we would call you for the gig, LOL. All the best on your shot. Take care, Lee.

She always put her heart into every song. By the way, I think your brother Waddy was a key member of her band for a time. I always admired his playing. This is crazy because at work today (Hurricane Records Tucson) I brought Linda Ronstadt Winterlight. I ended up playing it twice. I talked with a customer and ended up missing half of it before he left. I remember thinking as I talked of certain songs caught my ear as I was talking. After he left I put it up again. I smiled at that as I did it. I used to play Winterlight at PDQ Records where I worked 1986-2001 and then again after my angel bride passed 2015-2019 until they closed for good. One of my favorite albums many have never heard. Very diverse album from New Ageish to Country to Tish Hinojosa's amazing Adonde Voy to very Heart Like a Rainstormish soul ballads. And a song with one of my favorite movie composers from Poland Zbigniew Preisner. This album to me has always been kind of a Best Of album of songs many have never really heard. Thank you so much for this treasure.

I love how there's a misprint on track listing on the back cover, its missing track 8! I love your bass lines on Heartbeats Accelerating and Oh Not my Baby. Thanks for bringing back amazing musical memories!

Two of my favorite songs! I have them in my phone back to back, Carole, Linda, and Dusty, with Not My Baby, and of course Anyone Who Had A Heart. Of course how can anybody not also love the other two songs as well. Love Linda because of the most expressive she is with every song❣️

I meant to put E. Harris A River For Him but only could put a country song. That's ok. I played Lindi Ortega at work and someone thought it was Dolly. A modern artist who does not sound like modern country. Things in music seem to go around and twist and turn and then come back around and that is WHY I Love Music!

Linda is such a gift! I got to see her years ago at Anaheim Stadiuum with The Eagles - Jackson Browne - Linda and...Toots and the Maytals! And then, in October of 2019 she did an Evening of talking about her life interview by John Boylan at Cerritos Center for the Arts. This was about a year before her documentary! A remarkable evening.

"Heartbeats...", is another cover of a Kate and Anna McGarrigle song by Linda. Beautiful! I believe her first cover was "Heart Like A Wheel" in the 70s. The McGarrigle sisters were incredibly creative and were much here loved in eastern Canada for decades. I guess they still are. Did you cross paths with them in your travels?

Me too!! The only lives I ever envy are those of some of these gifted musicians who have been able to live out their passion. It’s my passion too but I was not gifted enough to live it out What a blessing to have lived a life in that brotherhood and sisterhood

@@helenespaulding7562 What a heartfelt and humble comment. The voice and musicality of one Linda Marie Ronstadt is one in a million...if not more! She would probably be the first to say just enjoy singing and making music for your own sake and for the others with whom you share your life.

@@lnl3237 thank you Lorraine for your kind response. I have sung in choirs my whole life...so I’ve been able to perform some magnificent music. And yeah, my husband enjoys me singing around the house! 😁. But hearing and seeing the camaraderie of those who’ve made their lives in music.,,,,,Lord I do envy that

@@helenespaulding7562 Glad to hear you have enjoyed singing in a choir, and that your husband is your #1 fan. Your envy of these incredible artists is certainly justified. Heard Ms. Ronstadt once describe the experience of making music with the best of the best, many of whom were her friends, as the "conspiracy to commit beauty." Hope Lee revisits her often. She'll be 75 this July. Don't want her to suffer one more day than she can stand, but boy, am I glad she lived long enough to know how much pleasure she has given us. Was just listening to her "Feels Like Home" CD I bought from ebay on the way home today. I don't have a discriminating ear, but she thinks that she had every vocal tool in her toolkit between the ages of 40 and 50. No argument here. All the best.

The last time you played Linda Ronstadt tunes, I ended buying one of her albums with Aaron Neville, where they had major hits. The whole album is fantastic to my taste buds. Linda has not only incredible range vocally, but she has a very wide range of tone. She is amazing, feisty and pretty. I concur I could listen to her all day too - amazing voice. I pray she can get well and find away to get behind a mic again.

Leland thanks for sharing all these wonderful stories and memories from working with all these fabulous artists. So many of these people you have worked with are people I have listened to for years. I guess from this I'm also a great fan of your artistry too so many thanks. I clearly remember walking into the giant HMV store in London and heard Winterlight playing and went and bought it straight away. Such a great album full of great songs. What a joy it must have been to be in the studio playing and hearing this. Keep posting - it's really appreciated.

I've been following you ever since Rick Beato brought you to my attention and I've enjoyed every bit of it. I'm 67 and started playing bass when I was about 15. But outside of a couple trips to the studio I was just playing in bars. That never really bothers me, I have found one thing that I am jealous of, man you got to play with Linda Ronstadt! Just like everybody else that I know I love Linda, what a beautiful girl, and what a fabulous voice! She was a major part of music for our whole generation, you know exactly what I mean. It's so sad that all of that was taken from her. I put on one of her albums a couple times a week and get mesmerized all over again. And you got to play with her. Only one thing to say, "You Lucky Dog" Peace dude, stay well.

A heartfelt Thank You Leland for playing Linda. I usually walk for an hour and a half every day and lots of times I think of those who no longer sing or perform or are gone for now. I think often of Linda and send a little prayer up for her. I know she is still with us and Hope, most importantly, she is happy and in no pain and is comfortable. I will always Love Linda Ronstadt. Bless you Leland for bringing her to the end of my evening. Hi Maureen and take it easy you guys. Love ya and never physically met you, but consider you friends I may meet you someday. Good night and God Bless you Both. Doug
