My dad built the engineroom, good to see it still looks great.

Your favorite with a 6mm thick steel hull??? Really??? You need a fuckin shrink dude. At sea Alum tin foil is more sturdy than a 6mm steel hull. Nobody sane would buy that demanding high maintenance mess up.

The price isn't bad. Though there are more modern boats that I would take over this one. You can find modern examples which still offer tremendous range (though perhaps not 5k miles) while being faster and which also offer better/more spacious interior layouts and engine rooms that aren't designed for 'little people'. Of course they also have higher price tags. I'd have to pass on this one.

5000 mile range is just incredible for a vessel of this size. With a steel hull what more could one desire. Maybe some inflatable yellow kayaks.

antony ward maybe some more freezer space? 5000 knots, at 5 knots is over 41 days. I don’t see anyway you could provision this boat for a trip like that.

The new Nordhavn 41 is the only other boat that I instantly fell in love with. I’m guessing the 41 would be cheaper to operate regarding fuel and maintenance.

I've been around too long for that, I've raced cars ( and survived), brought up children (and survived) and now have three grown up children and four grandchildren ( number 5 on the way). What a fantastic piece of engineering. The range of 5000NM is simply amazing and I would rather be in this boat in bad conditions than a lot of the yachts you review on this channel. Great Video as always thanks Nick!

I'm not even in the market for a boat and this somehow became one of my favourite channels. Now I am considering buying something like this.

Long time since I've seen her. Last time was probably when my dad took it from Guernsey back to the shipyard. Really bad weather, but she took it like a champ.

Yep. This is the one. It has the range, the looks, its not too expensive, it's the proper size... Great video of this stunning boat!

If I was a multi millionaire, I would probably still opt for this boat. It's got the range I would want and is something I think I could handle without a crew if I desired.

Definitely one of your most classic episodes.

It would be awesome if you could make a special about the Frisian/Dutch steel boat industry. We owned a Grouwster Vlet before moving to the UK and it was an incredible boat. This Altena shows how excellent Dutch smaller ships/boats are - a lot of focus goes to the superyachts, but the sector below is far more interesting in my opinion!

That's the type of vessel I would own. Sturdy, nice interior but not gaudy! I love the layout too. I really like having the salon open to the helm so everyone can enjoy the goings on! Very nice presentation!

SHe appears to be a no-excuses, flawlessly maintained world cruiser. It really is lovely to see something as immaculate as that, considering the use to which it is put. A true expedition-class vessel for a discerning buyer.

You don't usually skip the galley, Nick, but this time you just pointed to it and that is all!! But still, great boat.

As expected, Dutch made boats are one of my favorites. What I do like most is this real ship like feeling you have for long distance cruising. 5000 miles on a boat like this makes you feel safe no matter the weather conditions you will encounter on the way 👍👍👍

This is my favorite tour so far. This is a boat made to be used and not just staying in the harbor looking pretty. I would love to have something like this to travel up and down the coast.

Sensible practical & unpretentious just what I would be looking for if I could afford it.

Like this style and engineering a lot. Nice mini ship, comfortable and no goofy stuff to break, no bizarre artwork, just functional comfort. I’d probably just hang off the coast for weeks at a time with that range. But then again I can only afford a mid range canoe!

The only thing I like more in this than the Nordhavn 57 is that it has a laundry. But you can always instal those in the huge engine room of the Nordhavn 57. All in all I love the original interior, it's so relaxing and explorer type! Love the vid Nick thanks again!

Of all the boats I've seen so far, this one is my favorite.

I really like the redundancy capabilities of having that wing engine and its own separate shaft and propeller. Reminds me of my work years ago in the engineering spaces of Navy ships (we had backups of almost every system). Another Fantastic tour, Nick! Thanks!

I wonder. A lot of smaller workboats built this way have twin keels with two mains. Each main would have less HP than the single used here but they could probably get the boat going a knot or two faster than this 'wing' engine without needing the rudder as much to keep things lined up. With the higher HP on the 'spare' main you can run a big alternator making most all of your power needs as well. Two identical mains would reduce the spares inventory and you only need to know how to service one type of engine. That Cat engine is great but any serious issues would need a qualified CAT mechanic, engines like the John Deere are designed to be serviced by farmers, rugged but simple. I have more than a little experience running real ships with only one screw turning and they can be as nasty as twin engine aircraft under the same situation.

@@henryostman5740 Good point on only having to know one type of engine if twins were installed. I think the wing engine idea has its merits to, even if a completely different system. Considering it is a "get me home" engine, it would probably have much fewer operational hours on it and thus be reliable when needed. Also, it takes up less space in a smaller vessel as compared to twin engines of a larger size. Also significant is that the wing engine has its own driveshaft and propeller that can come into play if there is damage to the main shafting and prop. It would be a fuel miser too as compared to twins (plus if twins were installed you'd want to carry more fuel probably resulting in a lessening of cabin or other space onboard). Despite some drawbacks like overhaul knowledge and spare parts I am still a fan. There is nothing quite so reassuring as a second, independent system ready to go--especially offshore. Nick has brought us another fantastic tour, as always!

I must admit to having one hell of a soft spot for off-shore-capable "little ships". This is definately a very nice example of the breed. I really like the fact that they managed to squeeze in four seemingly comfortable single berths in addition to the owners cabin on a boat like this thats "only" 50 feet. Of course, bunk beds might be a tad off-putting for the older, less mobile, potential guests, but thats not nesseserly a bad thing depending on ones relationship with the in-laws.... :D I can definately see myself selling the house and living onboard something like this when I retire and have more time to cruise around at 5 knots. (not that the cruising speed 7,5 on my current boat is particularly fast either :) )

That engine room layout is the best feature of that boat, it's great to see headroom as well as a well thought out work space.

I keep coming back and watching it again. I have daydreams about owning this boat!

The woodwork with round and gentle corners everywhere, No Space is wasted, Towel-heater, A Heating-System which really deserves the Title, Workbench in the Engineroom, ....Love it, but to be honest - the last presented Nordhavn with the Bedroom behind the Brigde was or is at last my favorite Expedition Trawler Yacht from your Chanel - Good Video and also a fine Yacht!

That's one heck of a boat! I really love the older style look it has. And that range, wow, that's amazing!

These heavy duty explorer yachts are built exactly for what I would want a yacht for. Specially those nordhavens. Got to love the little ships.

I love this little workbench in the engine compartment. Really cute.

I believe you have shown us a boat with a major interior/electronics update! The ensuites look to be contemporary today. AND I found this ship well worth a second look. Taste without 'Flash.' 'Boaty' boat woodwork. Plenty of room to work on things under way. Splendid! THIS ONE IS ON MY REPLAY LIST!

The multimillion dollar yachts are always nice to look at, but something about traveling the world in this seems so appealing.

This is 1 of my favorites that you have shown so far.Great video,great little ship.You can get the live aboard vibe on this one.it has an around the world vibe.

That is a real boat. I would wander the globe and enjoy every moment with this beauty.

This guy is to boating what Murray walker was to formula one.........Excellent as usual.

@Gavin Claassen But you have to remember that freighter is being stressed by having so much weight put into it. This is pretty much empty, outside of a party of 1000pound women get together with food enough to feed them, 🤪🤔

I love the vibe of a trawler it gives you with some of the design elements. Also the computer area is very nice.

My absolute favorite boat..

I really love the deep run sea faring boats.. a lot of thought going into traversing long stretches of the globe.. clever ways to deal with survivable utility yet squeezing technology to achieve comfort in challenging conditions. A marvelous vessel.

Elegant tug boat. Can't remember the kids-TV-type stuff I watched as a kid that always had very cute little tug boats that I always loved watching.

Always love seeing the small engineering areas with a workbench and proper tools, that can be a really useful thing to have in a pinch.

I've probably watched this video seven times. Definitely my favorite boat on your channel. If I ever come into money this will be my first and only purchase. Who needs a house if you have a boat like this? Even if it's not on the market, in my imaginary world where I have money, I'll have an identical boat built. But since it will be the future I will have the hull made of titanium.

That mirror finish navy blue on the hull looks superb and 5000m range at 5 knts...amazing.

Terrific boat and in the right hands could handle almost anything. Very impressive.

Absolutely loved it!! I've often wondered how these boats guard against RUST and wow 14 anodes does it also have a galvanic isolator fitted for when moored up near other steel boats. Serious little boat for the true enthusiast.

Update the electronics and put in safelight TV and quality internet capabilities and you have something you could never get tired of.

What an amazing little ship.It's obvious from what I saw that she's been very well taken care of and hides her age wonderfully. This is something that is rare in today's world and I say that because of her asking price. To me should would be worth every penny and I doubt I would even try to haggle on asking her price with the owner. Truly magnificent little ship as you say and it fits... Thank you for the awesome tour...

I have seen a number of videos of Dutch working boats dating back to before me and then some and they are still working. Some originally had steam engines generally converted to diesel way back when, and the Dutch diesels last forever as well. What I'm getting at is that a tough steel hull, a stout industrial engine, and with reasonable maintenance, this sort of vessel should last forever in yacht service, it may not look fashionable but so what?

After watching this video I started calculating my journey to Brisbane Australia. I realized it would be possible to make this trip with the proper stopping points with plenty of fuel to spare in case we ran into issues on the way...

Very impressive boat reminds me of the old RN Bird Class which were a little larger and painted grey!

That workbench in the engine room is nicer than my dining room table. I would hate to scratch it.

Great video! Great Vessel! Besides emergency get back to shore motor I do feel the smaller motor also keeps the vessel head on into the waves! Just in case the main motor fails in heavy weather!
