I'm so thankful that the AUX sends for X-Air mixers are the simplest it can be. Jumping from mixer to mixer, whether be it digital or analog, AUX sends are always my biggest learning curve. X-Air got it right.

I made the mistake of buying a new MackieProFx, that doesn't have anything but the USB output., and the Speaker outs. Maybe the Control room would work. It's confusing, and annoying. So Can send a a channel to aux out of one channel and patch it directly to a second channel and get a signel in? I just want to send a second channel to my big speakers so I can run all lows on 2 speakers and full sound on my other 2 , Im getting my input from my p.c. with a aux to 1\4 out of headphones jack.

You can choose how and where they get placed in the signal path as you setup each plugin. You can have inserts, aux sends etc just as you would normally.

Hey Sam, thanks for the message! You can hook your Bose system up to the mixer either way, it just depends on what you're looking to do. On your mixer, the Main L/R outputs are functionally the same as the Aux sends, they just work a little bit differently to make things easier. If you only have one Bose stick, and that's going to be your main PA facing the audience, you can plug it in to Left or Right and just don't pan any channels. If you have two Bose sticks, one would be left and the other right, and even still it is uncommon to do much panning of signals in live sound. If you have your pair of Bose speakers on L/R for your main PA system, but find yourself in a situation where you need to place a third speaker in a different location (another room, around a corner etc.) then you would most likely want to connect that speaker to and Aux send, so you can control the mix that is going to it independently of the main PA system (perhaps that speaker is only needed to reinforce speeches at a wedding, but not the dance music later on). I hope that helps to answer your question. Let me know if anything doesn't make sense.

Hi bud. My Mixer has an effects loop and I use a Roland VG99 for guitar effects. Can I connect the mixer's effects send to the VG99 guitar in and the vg99's Line out to the effects return on the mixer so I can use the vg99 to add effects to mic channels?

Hey Wesmatron, you can absolutely do that! That sounds like a fun Sunday afternoon of experimenting to see what kind of sounds you can get, but I'd bet you'll find it works quite well once you get the levels set so you're not clipping the instrument input with the Aux out from the console... you'll likely just need to turn it down a good bit, but otherwise it should be simple. Let us know how it goes!

Maybe you could help - Having issue with analogue mixer aux return/send - when The volume of a synth on one channel gets louder, it boosts the level of another synth coming through another channel (the volume of a channel gets louder when I turn up its corresponding send as well). I use 4 hardware synths going into a Yamaha mg 10/2. I was hoping to use a reverb for two of the synths. Everything is hooked up correctly, the reverb works when I send it through to a channel(s) but as I said, when the volume of the synth on one channel is turned up (on the synth - not the mixer), the volume gets louder on the other channel. Thanks for any help :)

How do you get internal effects on the AUX send? We have 2 monitor mixes going out to IEM but they are dry. We're using a Behinger X2442 We'd like to add some onboard reverb so it sounds nicer

You would need to have your EFX returns come back on an actual channel so you can then route them to the Aux sends for your monitor mixes. On that console, there should be an EFX ouput jack on the back, which you'd want to patch to a spare channel. Make sure that channel does not get routed in a loop back to the same EFX engine & you can un-assign it from MAIN with the button next to the fader. Now you'll be able to dial it up in the monitor send just like any other channel on the console.

when reverb or delay come back to channel from an aux send, is the reverb 100% wet? Do you need both the original channel volume up and the new channel with reverb also up?

I have a Mackie 1402vlz mark 1 analog mixer. Can I use an Aux Send to send a Stereo signal to an active Subwoofer? Will the aux send signal be a summed signal (say I'm only using 2 channels 1 &2 on my mixing board )?

Hey, thanks for the message & sorry for the slow response. There is no need to send a stereo signal to a subwoofer, but you can absolutely use an aux send to signal from two channels to a single mono aux output to drive a sub, whatever you dial in to that aux will be summed at the output. I need to route this: guitar into the mixing board, Aux to and from pedal board, Aux to and from my looper pedal. I get signal, but no FX. Should I have gone Aux 1 post-fader? My Aux 2 has no return control. Should I put the fx on Aux 2 and the looper on Aux 1? Or does it matter? I'm using a new VLZ-4 Mackie 1402.

Hi Les, thanks for the message. It sounds like your guitar is into a channel and working fine, but you would like to have two discreet effect sends also, one to a pedal board and another to a loop pedal? On a 1402, assuming you have the channels available, I would keep both aux sends set to post fader and I would return the signal from the efx to their own channels on the console. Doing this you should be able to route signal out of the AUX, verify it is making it to your pedals, and then patch their output into another channel and verify you have signal and efx coming back there. This will allow you the most flexibility and control when mixing those efx or the looper back into the main L/R send. Let me know if this makes sense or if you were asking something else. Thanks!

I have to send a stereo signal (2 mic feeds and a stereo feed from a laptop) to a piece of equipment used for live translation at an event. Should I use aux send 1 and 2 on my Yamaha MG12 w/pre fader?

Yes, you can use Aux 1 /2 - though it looks like Aux 2 on that console is post fade only, so you could run both post fade. It won't be stereo either way, translation typically wants a primary and a backup feed, (or a program feed and an iso feed of a specific source) both being mono vs a stereo mix with anything panned. The real key for translators is to make sure they are getting an intelligible send with with a consistent level so they can hear what they need. Let me know if you have any other questions Jaron.

@@DcSoundOp Hi. Ok I’ll run both mono aux sends 1 and 2 (they’ll both be the same thing) to the translator’s box. I probably won’t be adjusting volumes too much so with post fade being activated they shouldn’t hear much altering volume during the event.

(In Live) Say if we are not using other Auxes like stage monitors so what will be the Send and Return functions? I mean there will be no return right!

Your way above my head here being new to mixers bought a 6ch pyle mixer for my home studio. My monitor sounds great but people say they can barely hear my music when broadcasting. My (send) control is set at 9oclock my gain & level controls are at 12. I don't use effects but my FX controls are set at 9 oclock. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks

Hi Miguel, it's hard to say what you've got going on beyond a simple gain issue. The physical position of the knobs doesn't always mean much, as the level of a send depends on how much level is present at the input of the channel you are sending from. I would guess you need more level at your input, allowing you to turn down the send to your monitor & raise the level to your broadcast, but that's just a guess. Alternatively, it could be a setting in the gear you are sending signal to from this mixer. What are you using to monitor & broadcast? Let me know what your broadcast settings look like & we can go from there!

@@DcSoundOp Hi there I was able to make some board adjustments lastnight to resolve this issue. Your correct on your advice. First I tried all other input&output jacks they were all way to hot & the "return"jack had no output so plugged my transmitter back in the "send" jack & turned all the mixers gains off. I turned send" knob from its original 9oclock position to 12oclock & turned each channels 26db pad on. Now I can use my level controls on each channel & get them set with the built in led meter. Amazing what a difference a few adjustments makes even when flying blind like myself. I use a radio receiver to monitor the broadcast. Thanks for your help!

That's just like the Aux-in on a car stereo, it's for connecting additional external playback devices. It could be used for anything from an iPod to a tape deck or another laptop - the manual and documentation for that controller is really lacking in details, but it looks like the Aux in would show up on channel 1/2 when connected. Have a big problem I know you can help me solve , I'm using a sound blast 7 channel mixer, using a y 14 inch jack into aux 1 ( stereo) to a compressor by 2 mono jacks the compressor is activated, but is not sendind back the signal back to the mixer , what have I done wrong? Hey Lennox, can you walk me through your signal path with a tiny bit more detail? I think we can figure this out with a bit more info. What is your path is back to the mixer from the compressor? You should not be running a mic pre as an insert, so that problem is pretty easy to solve. The job of a mic pre is to take a microphone level signal and raise it up to line level for the mixing board and other gear to work with. You'd want to connect your mic to the preamp, then connect that to a line level input on your mixer. I'm I don't know enough about your setup to answer the second question, so let me know what you've got going on and where you are stuck and I'll do my best to help. Thanks for watching Joeseph!

Absolutely, monitor speakers and making monitors mixes for musicians is one of the main things Aux sends are used for. If you're looking to connect multiple sets of studio monitors to your control room outputs, you might be better looking for a studio monitor controller that is designed to provide that functionality in a much more useable way.
