Hi all! I haven't done a long form video in a while, so during editing I decided not to cut anything at all as I felt it was a good learning video of the trials and tribulations and accompany fluid art. I hope you catch most of it! This is the last in the series highlighting the This Little Piggy color created for me by The Fluid Art Co. It's called Waterfall and IMO, is the perfect shade of blue. This is a deconstructed landscape technique on a 16”x20” gallery wrapped canvas. I am super excited about this one, and this is a planned, deliberate and intentional piece where I really wanted something darker, moodier, with a sunset behind the storm clouds and a turbulent sea. It takes me nearly 40 minutes to get there, but I think it paid off. Let me know what you think! Cheers, Karen

Colors/Brands/Pouring Medium Recipe:
House Paint-base aka puddle for the substrate:
PPG Multi-Pro in Eggshell.
Pouring Medium aka PM Recipe: mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator:
Behr 8300 Untinted Deep Base Paint (Home Depot); JoSonja Gloss Varnish 3:2 ratio paint to varnish. Mix well.
Brands/Colors mixed:
This Little Piggy (TLP) pigments in Waterfall, Violet Rain and Hammerhead; Da Vinci Fluid Acrylics in Payne's Gray; Golden Fluid Acrylics in Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold.
Golden, Atelier, and Da Vinci Fluid Acrylics: I put about 2-2 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade. Mix well.
For tube paint, I added an ounce of paint (heaping tablespoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. If still thick then I'll add a teaspoon of varnish/water to thin. (I make a bottle of "Jo-Wa" by adding 1/3 JoSonja Gloss Varnish and the rest water, and keep it in a squeeze bottle and use as my "water.")
All pigments are 1/8th tsp. pre-disbursed with a small amount of JoSonja Varnish to wet it (stir really well), then add into a 3 oz. cup of Pouring Medium; stir well.
Cell Activator Color:
Australian Floetrol + Amsterdam Lamp Black and Amsterdam Grayish Blue. Approximately 3:1 ratio Floetrol to paint.

As a beginner, I have been obsessively watching you work - creating and teaching - for the last month and I am so impressed by both your creativity and your courage. I'm old now, but I was a potter and an art teacher, so I can confirm that this video was/is both a teaching tool and an exercise in creativity. You know your stuff Karen! I have been watching Karen for years. She is my favorite for several reasons. She’s earthy. Real. Relatable. Funny. Super talented. Courageous. I haven’t been able to paint for 5 yrs. Kids and grandkids moved in and now I have space once again. Starting over is my plan now. I’m sure I will ask Karen many many questions. Love her so.

What i found to be inspirational was that you took the time and patience to work out all the possibilities from your mind before giving up. I was glad that you did the little swipe in the middle, which ended up looking good after the third bloom. It blended the sky with the water. I don't mind the longer version videos because it shows us your perseverance and with your skills and techniques we are all learning how it pays off. Job well done Karen. You are one of my favorite artists that I watch videos from. I enjoy your color palettes as well, as you make them interesting and fresh.

Looking at it sideways as you were working on it Karen, I thought that it just wasn't gonna work out, BUT BOY WAS I WRONG! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! It makes me think of a volcanic eruption from deep down in the ocean and then it finally reached the surface of the water and exploded into fiery beauty!

WOW Karen 💖💖💖 The spoon incident reminds me... I got a 12 pack of plastic infant spoons at the dollar tree. They are sturdy and clean up easily, wet or dry 😊 I've pretty much switched to them exclusively for the paints and use the popsicle sticks for scraping edges and leveling if needed when I teach in various places. Can't wait to see the new studio 🎉
